Where is all the snow?

Was looking at the pics of the refurbished Matterhorn and was thinking to myself.... Where did all the snow go? I remember driving down I5 when I was a kid looking for the big white mountain, because that meant we were almost there... Now it looks like a big brown dog turd from far away! Why are they melting the snow? Global Warming?

According to the OC Register story posted here awhile ago, the Imagineers were trying to make the mountain more realistic and how it looked when it first opened. I guess in the past, they just added more paint rather than strip it and then re-paint.

Wow that is pretty different! But whats funny is there is this show on ABC called The Bachelor, never seen it, its a little beneath me to watch silly reality shows, but I did manage to catch a few scenes of it showing the real Matterhorn and that sucker was white as paper! Did they just CGI the snow lol! So it is odd. But like I said, I only caught it on that silly show where that guy was proposing to some girl in front of it and looked like the classic snowy Matterhorn like DL had for so long.


(And although I only caught maybe just a brief minute or two of it, I have no idea why Ben would choose Courtney when its OBVIOUS she was there for herself and bad mouthing the rest of the girls! Courtney was downright mean to Emily and I HATED how she thought she was the center of attention!! I had respect for Ben when he saw how much she manipulated everything and he broke up with her! But then he GETS BACK with her??? What is that? On the show "Women Tell All" she was acting apologetic to the women but it was crocodile tears! That girl cares about no one but herself! According to the website reality show rules, they are now living together in California near Ben's winery! He's making a HUGE mistake! He shouldve chose Lindzi! Now she was class and very nice! She was the one and then when Ben marries Courtney and years later he realizes the HUGE mistake he made and that he shouldve picked Lindzi afterall it will be too late haha!)

Oh sorry a bit OT, yeah the Matterhorn could use more snow!

Seriously though, the Matterhorn is a huge slab of gray-colored gneiss. This new pic looks like a sandstone remnant of the Big Thunder Mountain range, eroded by fairy-dust-laden winds and the Rivers of America as they formed the Sea of Nemo.

Crazy Duck, I'm sure that if this warming trend continues, the Yetti will soon become extinct.

I hope she gets fixed before my trip to WDW in Oct. 2013. Wait, if she gets fixed, that means no offspring, and total extinction.

I guess we technically have an abominable snowman at DLR. I'm not sure if this is a more- or less-adaptable variation of the species.

This picture of the real Matterhorn was probably taken in the summer. I'm sure it has lots more snow on it in the winter. I agree that DL's Matterhorn should stay winter covered. The snow is truly what sets it apart as an iconic mountain at DL. As hot as it gets in So. Cal., a snow-covered Matterhorn at least provides a psychologically refreshing daydream. That's part of what makes DL special - it transports you to a place of fantasy.

I guess you're right. My wife spells her name Wendi and she's pretty sweet.
