Booked CSR for August. Have been doing my DISBoard homework, reading all the reviews - BUZZ, if you read this, loved your website. For those of you that have stayed at CSR, which is the best area? I am thinking away from the convention area (not for any particular reason, other than I don't want to be reminded of the "real world" while I'm there). Going with wife and two teenage sons who love pools, and don't mind walking. What area should we stay at and why? Thanks.

Mike

We have not stayed there before, but will be this summer. I have also wondered which is the best section to stay at. I have read a lot about the casitas and the cabanas, but not much about the ranchos. They all look like nice places, but I would love to hear opinions also.

I like the cabana section. They are beachy yet quiet. There is about an equal distance walk to the main pool and mail building.

I have stayed in the Ranchos and the Cabanas. I thought the Ranchos were the best themed of the 3 areas. The room was a bit more subdued in color than the other two areas. We enjoyed the Cabanas as well though the room was a bit more brightly colored. The Cabanas were more convenient to everything but I still liked the Ranchos best. The Casitas are pretty but remind me more of a large hotel.

I am using the new numbering system in the descriptions below. The map on my website is the old numbering system and the map I attached below has the new numbering system.

cabana 9e & 9d are close to bus stop 1 and the main building with a short walk to the Dig Site over the wooden bridge

cabana 8a, 8b & 8c are close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a short walk to the main building.

cabana 8d & 8e and 9a, 9b & 9c are inbetween the above cabanas.

Cabana rooms are mostly waterview rooms or non parking lot views and will be at the waterview pricing.

ranchos 7e, 7f, 7g & 7h has the quiet pool, is close to the Dig Site and bus stop 4 with a bit longer walk to the main building. It is behind cabana 8a, 8b, 8c.

The casitas are close to the gym, spa and have great fountains and courtyards. casita 5 is close to the Dig Site with a good walk to the main building. The lower the casita number the closer towards the main building.

CSR MAP WITH NEW NUMBERS

We stayed in Ranchos on our first trip to CSR and loved it-great theme, close to dig site but quite a hike from everything else. We dont care for the look of the cabanas so we requested Casitas on our trip in 2004-we loved this section. The Casitas was so pretty-so much lush foliage and the fountains throughout. We had a 3rd floor room facing the lake with a perfect view from our window-wonderful. We were so close to the food court, spa, gym and buses. Anyway-i suggest Casitas or Ranchos! :sunny:

We have stayed at Casitas during each of our stays at CSR. We request a room near the parking lot. We have walked our last steps when we return to the room in the evening, and a short jaunt from the car to the room is welcome. :earsboy:

Thanks everyone! :worship:

I'm thinking Casitas, but was wondering if it's too "busy" there as it is close to the main buildings and the convention area. Any thoughts on this?

Mike

Good to see you on the DIS again! Remember me? We're the ones who didn't get our DIS meet on the Magic coz of Charley! And guess what? We're going back in August this year too (POP and BC)! Are we gluttons for punishment or what?!?!? :earseek: :earseek:

Anyhow back to your question! We stayed in the Ranchos section (I think 7A) and we had an awesome lake view. We were close to the Dig Site and cut across the parking lot to the Casitas bus stop which was really easy. It's quite a way from the main building but it's a very pretty walk, especially at night with the lights reflecting off the lake. We never made it to the Ranchos quiet pool but I think it was quite close too.

Hope you have a great time and hopefully no "unexpected visitors" this time! :umbrella: :umbrella: :umbrella:

The only area of the Casitas I thought was remotely more busy than the rest of the resort was the first building, next to El Centro and even then it was fine but, again, Ihave not actually stayed in that section, just visited it numerous times.

I agree-the only building that seemed at all busy was Casitas 1. We found our building and the others to be very quiet. We plan to request Casitas again when we visit next May. :)

We stayed in Casitas 4 and it was great. Right at the bus stop, quiet pool downstairs, and right above the laundry room. It didn't even take 5 minutes to get to Pepper Market, but the walk to the Dig Site seemed long. This was mid day, the end of June, it was hot, so that probibly had something to do with it feeling like it took so long. After the first couple of days we started driving over.

Buzz2001 - What is up with the new bldg numbers? When did this start? I just called today to make reservations and was very confused! Thanks for the new map, it really helps! Will you be putting this info on your website soon? It was the first place I looked and was surprised not to find anything there. I knew you'd come through somehow so I'm glad I found this thread!

Now for the subject at hand! Sorry for that slight highjacking!

We stayed in Cabanas 9B (original numbers) and it was very close to the main bldgs, bus stop and a short walk to the Dig Site. We loved the Cabanas theming but are hoping to try something new this time, possibly Ranchos but I'm having trouble figuring out which bldg in the Ranchos section is closest to the Dig Site with the new numbers. The CM I spoke with today mentioned 6B or 6D. Does that make any sense? Also, which bldgs have 3 floors? I believe the Cabanas are all 2 story. True?

I'll be arriving at CSR tomorrow morning and can't wait to see which map they are still using. I didn't want to switch my website until I can verify the info. I'll be updating the site upon my return. Thanks for the feedback!

I was there last week and the map I got was like the one on your site, and that is how the buildings were numbered too.

Does it really matter what building you're in? All of them look so beautiful. Is it only the distance factor in play? I don't mind a walk. We've already requested connecting rooms(guaranteed). Don't want to be greedy and make too many requests.

Looking forward to your return with new info! They were definitely using the new numbers over the phone with me when I asked which bldg was closest to the Dig Site. So, this is something very new then? I thought I was totally out of the loop here. The map is kinda large, only printing half of it. Any way of getting a smaller version? Thanks for all your help with CSR! We'll be there in a couple of weeks! Enjoy your stay!!

I'm having the same problems printing the map...tried 3 times...now have 3 maps of not even half of the property :sunny:
I'm going to be asking for Cabana's 9C or 9D I think when I make my requests. With a 9yo DD I think that will give us good proximety to the pool and the food court/bus stop in El Centro. Did someone say earlier that the corner rooms are better? Buzz? I know someone has an opinion.
Thanks :teeth:

One word of caution to those going to CSR, especially if you have kids.

The people who drive the shuttle carts around the lake tend to drive a little wild. It was very scary watching children playing on the beach and running around and nearly getting hit by one. My boyfriend got run off the path once too when he walking towards El Centro. Two of them were driving very fast in opposite directions. He just barely had a chance to react.
