Where/how did you meet your spouse?

My girlfriend was engaged to someone in the Coast Guard and we went to the parties there sometimes. Hey, I was 20 and they had free, unlimited amounts of alcohol, lol! I met this sweet, quiet Coastie guy who was the total opposite of what I thought was my type, but 6 months later we were married. That was 14 years ago!!! :lovestruc

7 years ago in an aol chat room. No hope of ever meeting because we were 1700+ miles apart. :sad2:

We just celebrated our 6 year wedding anniversary.

Hmmmm what chat room ?? LOL That is where I met my DH  We are 10 yrs apart and we have been married for 11 years as of a couple of months ago . You wanna talk about people thinking a marriage wont last , I heard it every time I talked to my sister .
We have been together for almost 13 years now and we are pretty dang happy if I say so myself .

We also lived pretty far apart although we both lived in Texas

I stole his bicycle :teeth:

we were 13...and my friend and I found 2 bikes in the wooded area behind our houses. We looked around for ANY sign of people...there weren't any.

So we took the bikes. A few hours later a guy and a kid came looking for the bikes....we turned them back over and that was that.

I ran into them both again about 2 months later....when I befriended this girl at school. I went to her house after school...only to find out the guy was her DAD..and the kid was her cousin!!!!

We didn't start dating until 3 years later though. We've been together for over 18 years now. :)

My boyfriend brought him home for dinner.:goodvibes

5 years ago we met through my at-the-time boyfriend (he was obnoxious and it lasted 3 weeks!) during a high school football game (he was a college boy and I was a HS senior). We got married 4 months ago :) :lovestruc

eHarmony!

We're not married yet - the official proposal was 3 weeks ago today. We're planning for next October.

And it seems that I bought my wedding dress today... :rolleyes1

High school, same circle but different places in the circle. I was one of those "always in the thick of things show me the way to the party" girls while DH was on of those "lean against the wall and watch" sort of guys. Well the guys like me were fun but I eventually discovered they do not make very good boyfriends and would surely make terrible fathers and husbands. So in 1990, when I hit 20 and was ready to settle down I dropped all the smooth talkers and went looking for the sweet guy working in a bakery for minimum wage. We got engaged the following Christmas and married the year we graduated college. We've come a long way since that Spring day in the bakery but he is still exactly the sort of guy the song Simple Man is about, and I adore him for it!

At a hockey game about 37 years ago. Oakland used to have a National Hockey League team called the California Golden Seals. Their attendance was so poor that many of us bought the cheap seats and moved down. (Actually, we may have actually met at the hof brau/bar near the arena after a game.) We just celebrated our 35th Anniversary.

Older son met his wife at a Sports Bar. Younger son met his while they were in college and both were in the Community Law Club.

we met in a chat room on new years eve 1997. we realized we were in the same city and decided to meet in person a week later. we met in starbucks on january 6th and were engaged in july of that year. married in 1999, took a tenth wedding anniverary trip to disney last year for our tenth and october 16th will mark our 11th wedding anniversary.

so did you marry the dad or the cousin? Couldn't tell from your post......

We lived in the same dorm in college back in 19mumblemumble, and our all male floor hosted a dinner for their all female floor. A friend of mine was friends with her BFF, so we all ended up sitting at dinner together. Made small talk, found out she and I had been at the same concert earlier in the year. She wasn't greatly impressed, but I wore her down. I would whistle at her in the halls and other flirtatious things.

One thing led to another, and she and her BFF made several cut-outs of lips w/variety of song lyrics on them, and attached them to my door. The only problem was I was in the hospital at the time. When I got back, the cut outs were up on my door again, but I had no idea who had done it. I basically rounded up the suspects and was able to get her to confess to it. That led to 5 years of dating and 27 yrs of marriage.

A sidenote: the proposal was a spur of the moment occurrence. Since she usually worked in the evening during school, I was usually doing things with her BFF, and a larger group. Unfortunately, the rest of the group wasn't sure who I was dating and made a comment like that to my DW (GF), and she relayed it back to me. We had already discussed it, so I just made it official, getting on one knee in the stairwell, her w/curlers in her hair and in her bathrobe. What a romantic I am!!

I've actually known DH my whole life. I just had a thing for his cousin when I was younger. We all went our seperate ways when we entered college, but ended up back home years later. DH and I bumped into each other at a local "watering hole" and of course I asked how his cousin was doing. Some how it ended up where DH started calling me, and was very persistant' even though he lived in another state. He started coming in every weekend to see me, moved home a year later, and we were married three and a half years later. We have now been together almost 10 years and married for 5 and have a 4 year old son. I guess I was destined to be part of his family, just had the wrong guy at first.

I will be the first :) In a Bar

To be honest, it was through mutual friends, but it was in a bar . We actually were best friends for a year or so, and then I went to Florida for a week, and realized that I missed him more than I should have. ;)

I called him to let him know, and he responded with "It is about time YOU figured it out, I did a LONG time ago". He met me at the airport with roses, and we were engaged 2 months later, and married a year after that. We just celebrated 15 years this past June.

Being best friends for a while was great. We knew so much about each other, and what made us :) and what made us , and there we no secrets. We had already confided them.

I was picking his brother and a friend up for a sort-of-but-not-officially blind date. With BIL.

DH owned a trailer back then, and his brother and an old friend of mine rented the extra bedrooms from him. I was supposed to pick my friend and BIL up to go to the club, but they weren't ready to go when I got there (Goth guys are as bad as women that way! :rotfl:) and DH was flipping back and forth between the Tigers and the Red Wings. I'm a huge fan of both and we got to talking, he offered me a beer, and by the time the guys were ready I'd decided I wasn't in the mood for the club after all. I let my friend and BIL borrow my car for the night and I hung out with DH, just talking and watching the games and later on listening to music and ordering pizza. He was absolutely not my type at all, 9 years older and not into the same things except for our shared love of sports and literature, but once we got to talking something just clicked. That was 11 years ago last May, and we've been together ever since.

so did you marry the dad or the cousin? Couldn't tell from your post......

I'm hoping it was the cousin, because according to the math she was only 16 when they started to date

But yes, I was wondering the same thing.

I met my wife freshman year of college. We had a class together during fall semester, and started hanging out because we also had mutual friends. We started spending a lot of time together during the spring semester, and she helped me through a rough patch involved another girl I had a thing for but who treated me badly. We started going out in April, were engaged in September (beginning of Sophomore year), and were marred in October of the year after. We will be married 14 years next month.

blind date in high school (27 years ago). married 20 years this month.
