Ok, nobody faint. DH, yes we are still going to WDW next year! Where else to you take your kids for vacation? My twins will be 9 in April and now it the time to start to think about other places. Two years ago, we did the San Diego loop and a stop at DL :flower:

We like lots to do. Would rather see the US first. Washington, DC is certainly on the list. Philadelphia is where my inlaws live so we do that already. We've done the Jersey shore - love it! We do Cape Cod since we live here.

I want fun filled family vacations! Give me your best! :moped:

1. Downtown Chicago
2. Williamsburg, VA
3. Arizona (Flagstaff, Sedona, Grando Canyon) - preferably not in the summer
4. Seattle-Olympic Penn. - Victoria, BC

I have a list of family vacations I want to take and we try to check one off each year.

1. The Hamptons/Montauk L.I. (check)
2. Sesame Place, Langhorne PA (check)
3. Washington DC (check)
4. WDW Florida (this summer)
5. A family cruise somewhere (Done with DH/ want to redo with kids)
6. Grand Canyon, Mount Rushmore, or a Dude Ranch or an RV tour
7. Ski Weekend
8. Rent a houseboat (sailing destination to be determined)
9. An All inclusive somewhere in the Caribbean
10. California (LA, Lego Land, Disneyland, etc)
11. Boston, Plimouth Plantation
12. Toronto and or Quebec
13. London and or Paris
14. Cape Cod
15. Camping

My kids are very young still (4 year old twins and 2 year old), so I'll be saving a lot on the list for later, but we had a great time on the beach on L.I. for two summers in a row. Not going this year b/c of Disney plans. But if you're from the cape cod area, it might be similiar to what you're used to.

We had a ball at Ocean City, Maryland. We had a hotel right on the beach and boardwalk there. Our sons were 6 and 9 and the time. We spent 5 days and four nights there one fourth of July and wish we could have stayed longer....

San Antonio, Texas is a great place for family vacations. There is a wonderful riverwalk where you can shop, eat, sight see, take a river boat tour, etc. There is the Alamo (get a little educational stuff in), there's a Sea World and a Six Flags, a Wax Museum, a Ripley's Believe it or Not, Natural Bridge Underground Caverns, etc (the list goes on and on and on). We lived there for seven years and were NEVER at a loss of things to do when family and friends came to visit or if we just wanted something to do with the kids on a weekend.

Cruisin..., The only way to go. We swam with the stingrays in Grand Caymans, jumped off an iceberg in Cozumel, cave tubing in Belize, and visited a tiny fishing village and played on a beach in Costa Maya. It rocked.......My 4 yr old only wants to go on the "Big Ship"

Mammoth Cave would be really cool with boys that age.

I have a soft spot for San Francisco. Boys would like Alcatraz, Muir Woods

We enjoy the Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, TN area. We also take trips to Myrtle Beach, SC and Lancaster, PA.

Here is a list of the places we have gone on family vacations so far. DD is 9 now. We've had a great time on all of these trips.

Niagara Falls and Buffalo, NY
Washington, DC
Boston/Springfield, MA
2 Caribbean cruises (3rd coming up in 5 weeks!!)
Lancaster, PA
New York City
Hershey, PA
Annapolis, MD

I'm sure there are some others I've forgotten. Personally, I think if you head for any major city, you can find more than enough to see and do to fill a week. DW and I did a 2-week trip years ago to Pittsburgh, PA and Northeastern Ohio (Akron, Canton, Cleveland) and saw all kinds of great places (Kennywood amusement park, Football Hall of Fame, SeaWorld, etc.). Get a good guide book and keep an open mind.

Places we've been with DS9:
Philadelphia
New York City
Seattle
Toronto
Mammath Cave
Chatanooga
Louisville
Indianapolis

Places on our list to see in the future:
San Diego
San Francisco
Chicago
Destin
St. Augustine
Washington, D.C.

And, in the further future:
London
Bermuda :Pinkbounc

When our kids get a little older we're going to rent an RV & go out west, Grand Canyon, etc. We also want to take our kids to Williamsburg, Va, it's full of history and there is Busch Gardens also. We also plan to do a trip of the Florida Coast, down the Atlantic to Key West & back up the Gulf Coast (this would take awhile to do). A cruise is also on our list & a trip to the Carribbean, The Atlantis in the Bahamas would be awesome.

Why not try a cruise? All the kids seem to love it. It's gotten very popular in our neighborhood.

I was just about to suggest Gatlinburg. There is sooooooo much to do. We went to Cherokee and visited the indian reservation, such a nice drive from gat. through the great smoky mtn. national park, also went on hikes and saw waterfalls, went to ripleys, and the aquarium. There is so much to do on the Gatlinburg strip alone. There's also Dollywood in PF. We loved the outlet malls as well. We can't wait to go back to do more. Definately plenty to do there.

We LOVE Ocean City NJ, (not MD) We've been doing a week there for about 12 years, and kids don't get bored at all (14, 12, 11, 6 mos.) If you like quiet, safe family atmosphere, OC can't be beat. It's a dry town, so no worries about partying teens or college kids.

Another, less traveled place we like to go is the 1000 islands region of NY, it's beautifull, great if your a boater or fisherman, and not well known out side the area, so rarely crowded. The exchange rate also ususally makes the canadian side very affordable.

I posted cruisin earlier but Hey I'm w/ you. Ocean City NJ. We go every year and my kids love it.. Great Boardwalk..

Please.. Nothing educational... Have Fun.. Its vacation for kids..

DS & I will be spending July 4th wknd (5days) camping in Maine
end of July we're going to the NH/Maine beaches for a wk
then our 2wk WDW vaca mid/end of August

we also enjoy going to the White Mtns, NH - which may happen this yr mid-Oct

My family (2 adults 3 teens) is going to Branson, Missouri for Spring Break...and then back again for another week in June. We've been there before and have seen many shows but this time we're buying season passes to Silver Dollar City, Celebration City and White Water (about $105 each total). We haven't gone to these three places before. They're not like anyplace else we've ever been as far as I can tell...and the accent is on clean family entertainment, country style.

Here's a link: http://www.silverdollarcity.com/portal/portal.html

There's way more than this to do in the area, but if this piques your interest it's a place to start. I have time share weeks that we aren't using this year so if anyone is really interested feel free to PM me, sometimes they offer me really good deals. Lol...that's why we're going in March and June already.

One place that hasn't been mentioned is historic Williamsburg. Our kids loved it!!
Don't tell them that they might just learn something though!!!!

Some of our vacation spots are:

Outer Banks, NC (absolute fav!!!)
Niagara Falls (great for kids - stay on Canadian side!!!)
Williamsburg, VA (there is Busch Gardens there which is great for kids!)
The Bahamas - I would recommend Atlantis - lots to do for kids & adults!

Funny there's two Ocean Citys, I didn't know that...had to look it up on the 'net. We went to the one in MD..... Will have to give the one in NJ a try. Anyway, on our next non-Disney vacation dh and I are taking our ds14 and ds 11 to New Orleans (NOT during Mardi Gras). We are doing "boy" things like taking a swamp tour, feeding alligators, airboat rides, and going on a "Ghost Tour"....not to mention mom and dad things like touring the French Quarter and eating as much cajun food as humanly possible! :cool1:
