Where ELSE do you go on vacation?

I've done 4 European vacations, China/Tibet, Hawaii several times and we just returned from a small ship river cruise on the Nile and toured Egypt.

We've done 2 big cruise ship type of cruises and did not enjoy them at all.

We aren't sure what's up next for us. We thought we would do Costa Rica but we are now leaning more towards South Africa. I also really want to go to Russia and Viet Nam.

The possibilities are endless.

I always enjoy seeing posts from you b/c you always have a ticker for a fun vacation!!! I had been watching your ticker for your Egypt vacation!! Seems only yesterday it said you still had about 3 weeks left!

Hope you had a great time - did you do a trip report by chance?? I would love to hear about it!

To the OP - we are flying into Denver this coming summer, then doing a long road trip - south to Albuquerque, over the Phoenix , up through Utah to SLC, then to Yellowstone for a few days and then back to Denver. I am SO excited!!!!

Thanks for all of your suggestions!! :goodvibes

I'm (currently) taking a closer look at cruising. Seems like Royal Caribbean and Carnival might be a good fit for our family. Any ship recommendations are appreciated.

Definitely California! We go to San Diego every year since it's only a six hour drive for us. Sometimes we go 2 times a year. Just got back from San Fran in October.

We cruised Freedom of the Seas back in 2007 with another couple and had a blast. Great food, beautiful ship, plenty to keep you busy!!!

We are cruising on the Allure of the Seas in March. Shes's brand new, just arrived here from the shipyard a few weeks ago. Her sister ship, the Oasis, gets a lot of great reviews, so I am looking forward to a great cruise on the Allure.

You should hop on over to cruisecritic and read reviews on the different ships available.

Egypt was my favorite vacation to date. I had high expectations and they were all exceeded. I enjoy visiting places that take me out of my comfort zone and show me a world I've never seen any part of before.

No trip report is planned (although I did take almost 400 pictures, lol).

We love to cruise and we love all inclusives. Both are two different types of vacations.

For all inclusives we have been to the Grand Pineapple Beach in Antigua. Wow is all I can say! We have been to Costa Rica and want to go back. It is not a beach vacation per se but Costa Rica has so many adventure and animal opportunities. We have stayed in Cozumel at the Allegro Cozumel and the Grand Cozumel, both have great beaches. They say the best on the island. We love to stay in Playa Del Carmen at the Grand Xcaret which is right next door to the Xcaret Park and on the other side is Xplor. You get cheaper Xcaret Park tickets by staying at the resort. You can do so much around Playa Del Carmen.

We sailed on the Norwegian Dawn out of New York several years back. My sons were 5 and 7 at the time, and we all had a great time. There was a lot of flexibility with dining. You didn't have to eat at the same time and table for every meal, and there were several different restaurants to choose from.

There were 2 stops in Florida -Cape Canaveral (with a day trip offered to WDW) and Miami, and 2 stops in the Caribbean (Nassau and a private island.)

Lots of fun. I would recommend it.

If you are interested in cruising, we JUSt came back from the Explorer of the Seas .....Royal Caribbean ship out of Nj. It was a nine night cruise and was fabulous! I have been on eight other cruises, and this was one of the top ones.

We are also a family of five...we get two cabins next to each other. This is cheaper than a suite and you get the extra bathroom.

We paid about $650 a person and got a $220 onboard credit when we booked. It covered our bar bill!

I would recommend cruise critic.com. It is like the DIS But for cruises.

Happy planning whatever you decide!

Cruise to the Bahamas next year. If my sons boys scouts group get good price. If not we Tampa this year or Myrtle Beach. It is toss up.

Bumping because I love threads like this.

We're trying to plan a vacation and would like to try something OTHER than Disney this year (I know, I know). We're thinking of an all-inclusive beach vacation somewhere in the Caribbean. Right now, I'm looking at Punta Cana hotels, but I'm open to suggestions.

So - where else do you vacation?

We go to Branson and that is about it. We cannot afford anything else. However my top 3 choices are Japan, Nova Scotia, and traveling along the east coast.

Probably not what you are thinking about since you want to go to the beach.

I like hearing about where everyone is going, its giving me some great ideas, nice thread:goodvibes

Hi!

We live in Southern California, so most of our vacationing is done right here in our home state. And our favorite vacation is CAMPING!! One can rent an RV to see if is a good fit for your family, and then when you get hooked, you can buy something and the USA becomes your playground!

But if you know you are not the camping type, I would suggest the following places that we have enjoyed:

Hawaii--safe, beautiful, exotic, the warm, fragrant winds!! YUM!

Sea Island, Georgia--close to home for you, and traditional old-school family fun, they don't make places like this anymore!

Yosemite--The big lodges here are beautiful, the scenery outstanding, a real family memory maker!

Besides cruising, we like Mexico...south of Cancun about an hour or so. Beautiful beaches and excellent snorkeling. We've been to Catalonia Royal Tulum in Xpu Ha, and Akumal Beach Resort in Akumal. Next June hoping to be in Akumal again, but staying in a hotel instead of AI. Want to eat all the local yummy stuff! Xcaret park and Xplor are about 20 minutes away and both great!

St. Augustine!! Been there a few times this year and affordable then Disney. Nowadays it's mostly the Dark of the Moon ghost tour at the Lighthouse I get hooked on :)

Now i'm thinking about driving up North Georgia to see snow the beg. of next year...if it is gonna have snow.

Hatteras Island or Ocracoke. No place on earth quite like these gorgeous American islands.

We took a break from Disney this year and spent 5 days in NYC instead over Thanksgiving, it was the best vacation we have ever taken. We did a ton of sightseeing, the Macys Thanksgiving Day parade, and shopping, while staying right in Times Square.

My wife said last night she wants to stop Disney vacations now and do other things since our NYC trip was so enjoyable.

We are considering this for 2011 Thanksgiving! Glad to hear your family enjoyed it.....
