Just through this would be a fun thread:)

I named my kitty cats after Cordelia and Doyle from Angel(season 1)

The family cat is dracula after he nipped my mom with his teeth

Houdini the kitty(family cat) since he always jumped through doors

My cocker spaniel got his name from that kid in "A Christmas story" (Ralphie). That is my favorite movie of all time so I thought of it when I got him.
My Maltese's name is La're. I got her when my mother died. I have no clue where my mother got her name.
My cat, Minnie, is from, well....;)
My turtle Cecil is from that turtle in those old Bugs Bunny cartoons that was always winning the race against Bugs.
My parakeet's name is bird because that is what it is, and we don't name the fish.

Here goes...

Aaliyah I named after the singer who died two years ago. I got her a week after her death. She had long black hair and was ultra feminine, just like Aaliyah was when I met her. This little angel is a perfect namesake for such a sweet, very missed lady.

Xena -- after the TV Princess Warrior. It fits our little royal mess perfectly!

Meeko -- named after the raccoon in Pocahontas. He has the same "mask" on his face and is just as fast and mischievous.

Max -- short for Maximillian Miracles -- which he is and continues to be in our lives.

3 cats:

Kabuki - Japanese Theatre due to the stripes on her face

Tybalt - King of Cats from Romeo and Juliet (He's a polydactyl cat - six toes on each front paw!)

Leopold - Leo the Lion

Angel was a nickname that DH and I had for each other for a while. She's kind of a useless cat (really skittish), which is probably why we don't use that name anymore.

Tigger - well, that's probably pretty obvious ;) He also has leopard-like spots on his body and tiger stripes on his paws (he's a Bengal), so the name seemed fitting.

We had a cat named Boomer after Boomer Esiason when he was the Jets Quarterback.

My DS's had 2 guinea pigs named Jack after Samurai Jack and Queenie (short for Queen Amidala) from Star Wars Episode 1.

Bradford -- because the cattery he came from was in Bradford, Massacusetts and it was the only name my (then) husband and I could agree on.

Mitzi -- because she was a little scrap of a kitten

Fritz -- because he is Mitzi's brother and they went well together.

Our two black Standard Poodles:

Sebastian -- we couldn't decide what name to give him so my husband picked up a book and chose the name Sebastian from it.

Winslow -- we named him after a park (Winslow Park) in Westport, Connecticut.

Had a dog named Bristol after Bristol motor speedway

Had a Red Golden Retreiver named Rusty because he was a Rusty red color, also because that is my favorite nascar driver. He got hit by a motorcycle this spring and passed away.:(

We now have a cat and her name is Herminie, after the girl on Harry Potter. My kids named her.

Here are our names:

K.T. ~ Jack Russell/Chow mix. We couldn't think of a name for her, but she keep hitting her head on the coffee table when we first got her ... my dh would say, "Ker Thunk" ... hence the name, K.T. Most of the time it sounds like KATIE ... or NO, Katie! LOL!

Maisey~ Jack Russell. She was just very prissy puppy and that seemed to fit her.

Belle ~ Black Lab mix dh found abandoned and covered with fleas.... I made him name her since I wasn't sure we really needed another dog!!!! So, I am not too sure how he picked that name!

We have a dog named Ruxie. When my parents lived in Romania for a year they had a friend named Ruxandra (Roo ksahn dra) who was called Ruxie for short. When I was growing up we had dogs named glamorous women's names w/nick names (Abigail/Abby, Olivia/Livy, Sophia/Sophie) so it seemed like a natural fit. I didn't want to use anything common since many of those kinds of names are popular now. I was a bit embarassed when my parents told her I had named my dog after her - thank goodness she wasn't horrified!

The only problem is that people mispronounce it. She refuses to answer to Ruh-ksie, only to Roo-ksie.

my german shepard kaiser was named because kaiser is german for king and my dad refers to that dog as the "King"....

my fish: johnny was named for johnny depp(duh) Ichabod was named for Ichabod Crane in sleepy hollow, Sam was named for Sam in Benny&Joon, Bon-Bon was named for the *word i wont say* in before night falls, Ed for Ed Wood.....

Striker was named bc me and my brother both played soccer and i dunno....but i call him striker marie because of that line in beuty and the beast < "marie, the bagettes, hurry up!" i have no clue why but it just sounds funny....

and my other animals were already named from the shelter....but my other german shepard Harley, I call him kitty, kittycakes, hooter, vivian <---my dad just called him that once and it just kinda stuck its hilarius bc me and my dad will be like, "Vivi, o vivian! in our highest voice.....yeah...I also call harley hoo diddy, and i dont know if anyone has ever heard that song by p.diddy that goes: the d the i the d the d the y the diddy, p diddy, well i do that will harley only it goes: the d the i the d the d the y, hoo diddy , hoo diddy! haha

:crazy::teeth:

Max is really named Maximilian. Quite often called Maxi also. :) I originally wanted to name him Rex, but he looked more like a Max to me.

Skippy is the family name...my Dad had a dog named Skippy as a kid, I did also. So I had to pass that one on to him. ;)

We have a 5 year old Airedale named Casey. Why Casey? No idea, it just fit. We now seem to have been adopted by a stray chihuahua mix who followed us home 2 weeks ago. We have named him Norman after the calf Billy Crystal saves in City Slickers. We had just seen the movie a week before Norman followed us home and DS picked the name.

My black pug is Zelda, after Princess Zelda in the video games.

My fawn pug Austin, his full name is Austin Van Dam which is a combination on Stone Cold Steve Austin and Rob Van Dam.

My orange tabby is Orange...well...::yes:: Kinda obvious.

And my black cat is Baby Kat as he was the baby when we got him, now we just call him Kat, sometimes Baby Kat..

Here is my KAT...

when we use to have 2 pugs, the fawn was named spaulding after the place where my mom got married , and the black named cally lilly cuz that was my moms fav flower

Our Pooch is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel & so I thought that Prince would be an appropriate name for him:)

Yogi Bear had a friend named Boo Boo.:teeth: Everytime Boo goes to the vet, the ladies there do their best Yogi Bear imitation when they call out his full name.:p

Our cat is named Cricket because he is black and can really jump. We usually call him E.K. for Evil Kitty, because he loves to tease the dogs.

Our smallest bichon is named Holly because we got her at Christmas.

Our larger bichon is Sasha. The name just seemed to fit and it was the name the whole family agreed to.

Our chow/spanial mix is named Buddy. When he adopted us, I insisted we look for a home for him. I said we didn't need another dog and refused to let anyone name him. My DH refused to call him Dog, so he started calling him his buddy. Now many years later, he's still Buddy.

We also have a huge angel fish named Angel II. He's our second huge angel, hence the appropriate name. :teeth:

When we got our black cat, we had already had 3 black cats that had died early in life, so we wanted to name this one (a girl) a kind of tough name. My favorite soap is Guiding Light, and my favorite character is Harley Cooper (nice girl with a tough exterior, but heart of gold type)... hence, our black cat is Harley... and I am happy to say she has outlived her predicessors.

We got our Calico when she was a young adult cat, and she came with the name Millie. I just DID NOT like that name, so not to confuse the cat too bad, we changed one vowel, and her name is now Mollie.
