Where do you vacation outside of Disney??

We always travel to a beachy destination in July. Usually Riviera Maya area or Punta Cana. We leave in 9 days to Riviera Maya to stay at a resort. We are going for 10 days. Then in September we go for a week to Disney.
We havent been to Disney in 3 years. The last time we went DH said we wouldnt be going back for "many, many, many years" but this food deal came up so he agreed. :cool1: :cool1:

I plan a lot of last minute road trips. Between trips with my family and trips with my friends, I get around :rotfl:

My Disney trips get split between family and friends - but mostly family. I've been more times than I can count. At least once a year, although quite a few years have managed 2 or 3 trips.

I've been to Italy twice since last spring. Rome, Naples, Ischia, and Capri (paradise I tell ya - everyone MUST see Capri once in their lives) and a bunch of small, non-touristy cities. Hope to go back and do even more sometime soon.

A lot of people sorta roll their eyes when I mention doing this, but my friends and I will plan road trips around our favorite bands. It's a great, fun way to see places that you've either been wanting to go but never got around to it, or places you never would have imagined you'd be and end up having a great time. Once tour dates are announced for our bands, we start figuring out which cities appeal to us and start trying to make it happen.

I'm paying my way through college for 2 degrees (one more semester! woohoo!) so a lot of people wonder where my money comes from. It's all about spending the time to save the money and not blowing it in the bars. I've gotten VERY good at researching and finding us great deals so that these road trips end up costing very little - usually less than my average fellow student's bar tab for the weekend. :rotfl: My 5 day trip to Orlando last month cost me not even $150 for gas and hotel.

Plus, my goal is to visit all 50 states before I am 50. I've reached about 1/3rd of my goal.
I set a similar goal, except mine was to visit all 50 states before turning 40. Well, I made it!! I returned from Alaska, my final state, just 3 weeks before my 40th birthday.

Since becoming a DVC member, I've been traveling to WDW quite a bit. But I still love to go other places too. Just plunk me in a plane, train, or car and I'll go pretty much anywhere. :teeth: I'm LONG overdue to go to the Caribbean, so I'll have to get busy and work on that. ::yes::

:rolleyes2
We have been vacationing at the OuterBanks for a number of years now, and we stay in the little town of Avon on Hatteras Isalnd.. Quite laid back not alot to do but DH likes to surf fish.. Disney is not his cup of tea which is fine but I do like to vacation on the gulf for a week of R & R so we leave him home..Someone asked my daughter how many vacations do we take a year and she said as many as we can squeeze in and can afford.. ;) ;)

Last summer we went on an Alaskan Cruise and then spent a week at Whistler BC ~ it was an wondeful holiday, Alaska is gorgeous.... we went to Disney at Christmas though ;) to get our Disney fix.

This summer we are going to a luxury horse ranch, my DD11 is going to ride the range and I am going to read books and relax, there is no television/phones/internet  at this Ranch.

I have a British Isle Cruise booked for next summer with a week in London afterwards.. I will have to see where we can squeeze Disney in :confused3

If we go it will be a shortie, not a 2 weeker like previous years, these other trips are costing a fortune - I have to figure something out, somewhere. :guilty:

we like to take 3-4 day road trips to tennessee, florida and south carolina.Tennessee trips are my favorite next to disney.

I'm taking my 6 year old to StoryLand next week. I was born and raised (till the age of 10 anyway!) in New Hampshire and my dad's side of the family has a cottage on Lake Ossipee. We are heading up there tomorrow for a week. I used to go to StoryLand, Santa's Village and Six Gun City when I was a kid...now it's time for MY kids to go!! I've been wanting to take my 6 year old for a few years now, but never had the right opportunity. I hope he likes it! :goodvibes

You are going to have a great time! As you know, it's as clean as Disney, and as family-oriented. Fewer rides, but fewer crowds, too. When my ds was 6 last summer, he could not get enough of the Crazy Barn, Turtle Twirl, and Bamboo Chutes. Be sure you do the Mad Scientist's show, the kids love that, too!

Vacationing in WDW is only a small part of my vacation agenda. In the last year I have been to London, Amsterdam,

I leave for Bangkok Thursday and a few weeks after I return from Bangkok I am headed to Singapore & Bali (combined trip). thankfully I travel a lot for work and all my vacations are paid for with points and miles or I could never afford to take all these trips!

My family only go to disney (florida) every few years (5 years since our last visit! too long!) because we have an older family, with kids with GCSE and A level exams. On off years we go to places ether within England, Centre parcs, for weekends, and since we are ruled by a majority of girls (poor dad!) we go to health spas for weekends too. But big family holidays we usually end up skiing in Whistler (Canada), or France. We spend summers ether in france, euro disney or in Alps (its helpful cause we can all speak at least basic french) we sometimes go to Greece of Turkey on package holidays with plenty of things to do. Yet our family love the thrill rides, we go for weekends to theme parks in England too, such as Altom Tower(amazing), Thorpe Park (getting better with each ride) and Chessington (good, but there are better).
This is a basic sum up of our family holidays

This theme was a good one since we love to travel.

My parents take us on a family trip every other year.

We've been to the Bahamas (Big Red Boat before it changed to Warner Bros.)

Grand Cayman, 3 times to Hawaii

Can anyone give me any ideas on the Otter banks.
My mom suggested that one for next year since she saw they had resorts that had like 4 floors 8-9 beedrooms and baths private pool 2 kitchens game room with kitchenette They really look nice and we'd be together yet have our own areas but I just wondering what else is there to do in the line of sightseeing and things to do?

another choice was Bermuda.

any thoughts on that one?

You mean there are other places to vacation?

Oops! You are right...Disneyland in CA, Disneyland Paris, Disneyland Tokyo, Disneyland Hong Kong...

;)

I can't get my DH to go more than once every 3 or four years. travelling is my passion and I want to go everywhere. We went to Cabo San Lucas last year, Amsterdam and paris this spring, Hiltonhead for golf, Hawaii five years ago, even Beijing and walked on the Great Wall. I am hoping to visit my DS and DIL in Mysore India next spring.

Another place I really enjoy is Washington D.C.! Most of the sites are free and there's just so much to do and see, plus my sister lives only 20 minutes from there so it's really easy for us to visit.

One of my "dream" vacations is to do the Grand Circle around the national parks and to go back to Italy!

We've taken our boys to Six Flags Darien Lake that last couple years. Been to Scotland about 10 times(husband's family is there) And Love Sarasota--going there just before Disney. Some time would love to see Western Canada

I am on a constant search for our next vacation. We usually do WDW with the kids every other year (although I must confess we were there last year and are going again this year).

Every other year is just for the adults.. we have been to New Orleans, Key West, South Beach, Nashville, Las Vegas, etc...

I have to say that I enjoy the trips to WDW.. but am excited to visit another destination...

We go to the beach every summer for a week, Destin Florida usually. We go to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge during fall break, ( except this year we are going to WDW :cheer2: ), we go to either to Nashville (2-3 days) or Gulf Shores (5 days) during spring break. We love the beach and we never want to come home when we go, but we are VERY excited about our WDW trip. DH and I haven't been since our Honeymoon....13years ago :earseek:
We are going to the Carribean in April 2006....just not sure where yet...Cayman Island, Cancun or Virgin Islands.

A couple of our favorite vacation destinations would be Kiawah Island and Charleston, SC; Vancouver and Whister BC(summertime), and last winter Tremblant in Quebec had good skiing and a nice ped village. We try to get in a sky trip each year and our 4 year old learned how to this last winter.

This is the first I've heard of a vacation outside of Disney :rotfl2: Why would anyone go anywhere else :confused3 :rotfl:

I have wanderlust and travel EVERYWHERE!!!

I've been averaging Disney about every 4 years, which is perfect in my book.

I've been on 2 caribbean cruises in the past 2 years, a trip to Germany and the Netherlands, Cancun/Cozumel, and as many US states as I can possibly fit in on weekends...I've been to 35ish (ok, that's obviously taken longer than 2 years :p ).

I'm combining my Disney trip w/ the Carnival Fantasy to the Bahamas. Ahhhh, can't wait. :Pinkbounc

Next year I have it narrowed down between Italy, Southern Caribbean cruise or Kauai. Too many choices.....
