Where do you use/need your golf cart besides FW?

My new RV Show question of the season seems to be "do you allow personal GCs at your campground?" We're downsizing and hitting shows in multiple nearby states, in addition to the dealers lots we frequent, with a goal to make a final decision before Easter.

I keep reading how few parks are allowing personal carts any longer so I was floored to get a positive answer from all but 3 of the campgrounds at the MD RV show this weekend. This "sure, bring it along" welcome is awesome. The problem is, it's making it more difficult for us, as cart owners, to decide between a TT and a TH.

Each time, I think we're ready to sign the deposit check for a TT/TH, I think of the other style and second-guess myself. It's gotten so bad that now DH is wondering too. He even mentioned selling our GC yesterday, and using the substantial sum we'd save when buying a cheaper TT to rent a cart. :confused3

There's no doubt we need it at FW. He has muscular distrophy and doesn't walk well so it'd be helpful elsewhere, but he's also getting an ECV, so perhaps not essential. Many of the other CGs we've visited aren't big enough to justify GCs or don't allow personal carts. Our GC wouldn't take up much room at all in most of the new THs we've seen so there'd be lots of empty/wasted garage space. Plus, the THs sure haven't had much living space/comfort options when compared to the TTs we've looked at for almost half the price, so the debate continues...

This brings me to my long-winded question... in addition to FW, where else do you want/need to have your cart along?? TIA

We use ours around the yard moving stuff from the MH or garage to storage sheds out back. We also use it as entertainment in the yard for visiting grandchildren and around the neighborhood just to get the kids out from time to time. They love it! We have used it at a couple of irv2 National Rallys when events/activities are stretched out over a large area.

We are having trouble finding campgrounds localy that allow GCs but we don't leave home without it. I work on my feet every day so a relaxing weekend camping does not include more walking:confused3. We have a couple but are allways on teh lookout for more:thumbsup2

We've never been to a campground that doesn't allow private golf carts. Use it at home to ride around the neighborhood and entertain the grandkids.

DH takes DD10 to the bus stop at the end of the road with it on nice weather days. We've used it locally at fairs & steam shows too but, to do that, we haul it in the utility trailer. TTs offer better living space but we have the GC so I feel like we should be taking it... arghhhhhhh... Now that I'm older with DH home 24/7 and 2 of the 3 kids are all grown up, I'm way too indecisive when it comes to decisions for the long term future...

We also use ours around the house. Most private CG's allow them, Gov't owned parks do not.

I should explain that we have a 40' Prowler TT now - bigger than our first apartment when we got married was - but are looking for something smaller & lighter. DH has muscular distrophy so we sold the truck and will be hauling with his Excursion now.

When I sit in our TT and look around, it doesn't seem as though giving up ten feet would be that much of a sacrifice. We've got at least that much wasted space just between the sliding door in the living area and the back wall of closets/walk around queen bed in the bedroom. If I could only find a TT or TH that had a similar floorplan without the sliding door area and the wasted bedroom space we'd be signing in a heartbeat...

The state parks in Indiana will allow GCs if you are handicaped or over 65 but only in the camping area. My uncle took his to Patoka Lake several years ago and there were some upset campers:confused3 I guess at 70 they didn't believe he was 65:rotfl2:

I was surprised to learn that a campground in VA that charges $5 a day if you bring your own golf cart. Let's just say that I stopped going to that campground. To me that is absolutely ridiculous - anything to get a buck.

How do you find out CG's don't allow or charge for your private GC? Is there a posted policy, or do they put out spike strips around your campsite, just in case? I've only used mine at a couple of CG's other than the Fort, but I didn't ask and no one said anything.

:rotfl2: OMG spike strips, I love it! Obviously you've stayed at a Jellystone...:lmao:

Seriously though, usually from what we've seen it says something in the camp rules or the paperwork you receive at check-in. Everywhere I called last summer said no GCs allowed when I asked so, since all these CGs set up at the RV show giving away candy, ballons, sillybands, and free nights to get people to choose them, I figured I'd ask each one. LOL Maybe it was the peer pressure of knowing the CG next to them just told me yes but I was pleasantly suprised at the change since I called around last summer...

We're going back to the MD show to deal with more of our indecision next weekend and to PA the week after. I think I'll make a GC's permitted list to share. Perhaps it could help somebody else on the east coast...

You can also change to a golf cart/NEV, like I have. Looks like a golf cart, but is license & insured with turn signals, headlights, brake lights, etc.. They are legal in about 40 states.

When I go to a public campground with it in the back of my truck, usually the first thing the park ranger says is that I can't use that here. I walk him around to the rear of the GC, show him the license plate & hand him a copy of his state law that allows the use of it along with my registration & insurance.

Then I spend the rest of my stay, driving past them as they patrol, smiling & waving in my NEV. ;)

We too have a street legal golf cart, and we also have a 30' Toy Hauler Fifth Wheel. The garage area is just big enough to fit the GC (about 1/2 the size of your typical THFW) and opens to a nice space of living/dining area. And with a THFW, you still have a separate bedroom. In our "garage area" there are also 2 queen size beds that come down from the high ceiling if needed for those guests that stay over. We also can haul our 2 full dresser Harley Davidson motorcycle's inside as well. Our THFW is very versitle for living, camping and hauling GC's or MC's!! We just love it!! Good luck!

Sounds like you found the loophole! Does FW treat it as a golf cart or as a "car"?
