Where do you store your laptop?

Hi All!

DH and I leaving next week and are staying at Pop Century. I'm taking my laptop for various reasons but I'm concerned about where to store it. Where do you guys hide yours? I'm afraid to leave it in the car because of the heat and I know mousekeeping is pretty honest but you never know! Any ideas?

We actually don't put ours away at all -- we leave it right on the desk and we have not had any problems on many Disney stays. Others say they put it inside their luggage, or in the drawer under clothing. Some people cable lock it to something in the room. If you have a small netbook, it might even fit in the safe. One of our MacBooks has fit in a safe at WDW before. But we normally just leave it out.

I have also left mine out on the desk for years - it is just in the past year where I got a cable lock and since I had it I used it.

If you are nervous about it, buy a cable lock for it. They are not that expensive, and that is the last thing you want to worry about while trying to enjoy your vacation.

Depending on the size of your laptop it may fit in the safe. I have stored my 15.4" Toshiba in the safe with no problem.

This is from the POP FAQ thread:
Safes

We lock it in our suitcase... it's not safe at all, but at least it makes us feel better than having the laptop lying on the desk or something. Plus it's safer if the mousekeeper needs to clean around it. My fear isn't so much it being stolen, but rather cleaning liquid accidentally being sprayed or dripped on it. hahaha I'm paranoid, but after having a college roomie step on my MacBook soph year, all bets are off.

I also lock mine in the suitcase. And then I put the suitcase in a closet or someplace totally out of the way so it won't be moved hopefully or knocked over. I also keep it in the neopreen(sp?) sleeve in there so it doesn't get jarred if it does get moved.

We have also always just left ours on the table...its usually covered in junk;)...I don't even know if we took it out of the bag on this last trip;)

I usually only go as far as closing it and putting it on the chair pushed in to the table. I feel like it can't be seen from the window so easily. I don't bother doing anything else.

We simply leave ours on the dresser/desk. I guess we have never been worried about it...

between the mattresses, far enough in so a regular change of bedding won't feel it. I do that wherever I travel on business or with my laptop, not just WDW.

Our son was at the CBR for a week in July for a baseball tournament and needed his laptop for stats, etc. He left his on the table the entire time he was there and never had any concerns.

Another one for locking it in the luggage. My DS brought his along to get some homework done and we thought it would be a little safer there. The piece of luggage went back into the closet wedged between the other luggage.

Can you live without the information on your laptop if it is stolen? Buy a $20 cable lock and secure it to a piece of furniture in the room. Cheap insurance.

I'm not terribly familiar with laptop locks, but what piece of furniture are you thinking of, and how would you attach it? :confused3

Well...duh to me!

That's a really good idea. :thumbsup2

I have wrapped the cable around the bed frame and left the laptop on the bottom shelf of the nightstand.

In the past I've also locked mine in luggage and made sure the luggage was out of the way.

But this time, I bought a 10.1" netbook. I know that will fit in the safe :goodvibes

We usually just put it back in the bag and place it in the closet with our shoes and dirty laundry :). We've never had an issue.

Last year we left it out and had no problems but this year we might keep it in the safe just because there will be way more people in our room/adjoining room and I don't want it to get knocked over or something spilled on it! I only take mine to dump photos onto though.
