For those of you who go solo - where do you stay? I've stayed at BC, CSR and AKL on solo trips and liked them all. Do you tend to visit an old favorite, or try new resorts?

I like tryin diff ones. stayed at ASM, CBR, POR, Swan & tryin All Star Sports & AKL in a few days.

I am a DVC member so my solo trips have been - OKW, BWV. this december I am also adding VWL and the all stars - I haven't ever stayed in an All Star Resort - do you think I will like it?

I used to consider POR (well, it was Dixie Landings some times I stayed there) my solo resort. But recently we became DVC members so my next solo trip is to BCV. Wondering how I'll like the studio vs. a hotel room.

hey you will love the studio - having a microwave and a refrigerator are great for me (I have food allergies so I have to be careful when I eat out - big pain)

the sofa makes it feel more like a home than a hotel. be sure and try out the whirlpool that will be next to the quiet pool. I really love the 1-bedrooms (but I don't stay in them when I am going solo either) for the full kitchen, washer/dryer, whirlpool tub, and VCR.

I've stayed solo at AKL, POR, and CBR. I'm thinking of WL on my next trip. I've loved each and every one so far...they are all unique, but CBR was the one I was the most comfortable in. Maybe because I was more relaxed being solo after 3 trips.

Sports ONLY!;) All I need is a bed, A/C and a working bathroom.;)

this will be my 1st solo trip so i am going to stay at csr, where dd and i stayed this spring. i loved it there and think i'll feel a little more confident being familiar with my surroundings, also there are always conventioners walking around solo so i think i'll feel a little less conspicuous.:D

I've stayed at Coronado Springs and the Dolphin.

All Star Sports. All I need is a bed, a bathroom, and a TV (for weather reports).

I'm staying at CSR for my first solo visit 10/16-20!! Yay!! Almost there ~ I can hear the music already! Oh wait ~ that's my CD. Anyway...have a Disney day!!

The All Stars are all I need. Who spends time in the room anyway!

I personally like staying at new resorts or new areas in previously visited resorts. On solo trips, I stayed at:

Dixie Landings - Paterre Place
Caribbean Beach - Jamaica
Beach Club - 4th floor
Coronado Springs - Casita 3
Coronado Springs - Casita 4

Off-site, I stayed at solo:

Castle Doubletree
Hampton Inn Lake Buena Vista
Hawthorn Suites Lake Buena Vista

I liked them all solo, except for Dixie Landings (now POR), which I won't stay again solo. The reason is simply because I like Alligator Bayou but couldn't get a room there, since I was told it was only for families of five. Not a big deal, but I've done the mansions enough times (on other trips with family), so I rather stay somewhere else where I may get a new location/area. May favorite place solo was Coronado Springs. :)

HugsForEeyore ~ Glad to see you liked Coronado Springs solo ~ that's where the reservations my sister made for me ended up being. I see you've stayed in the Casitas ~ is that where you would recommend trying to stay? My two main things are that I need non-smoking and NO feather pillows due to allergies ~ both of which are noted on my reservation (I've been assured by a couple of cast members who pulled up my resort ressie when I was making some other ressie ~ PS, tour, etc.) ~ but I decided to not try to be too picky about where I stay. To be honest, I'm so psyched to be going to Disney again I would have taken whatever resort they put me at! But it's good to hear that you're comfy at CSR as a solo traveller.
Thanks ~
Beth

HugsForEeyore....

I like Alligator Bayou but couldn't get a room there, since I was told it was only for families of five.

Was that recently when you couldn't stay solo at AB? I was there solo in May of 2001. It was my first time solo, and I loved it.

Hi Cassie -

My solo visit to Dixie Landings (POR) was in mid May 2000. I requested Alligator Bayou section when I made the reservation. When I checked in, the CM gave me Parterre Place. I politely asked for Alligator Bayou, but she shook her head and very firmly said that Alligator Bayou is for families of five. :( So I accepted that and stayed at Parterre Place in the mansions, which was a fine place to stay.

But when I got back, I posted here on the DIS about whether anyone else ever had this problem. I think only one other person did - everyone else said they got Alligator Bayou with less than five people in their group. Most people were surprised I had a even had a problem with getting Alligator Bayou. So I felt very singled out, which I believe was because I was solo and an "easy target". I know it's not a big deal, and I understand why (Alligator Bayou has trundle beds so it can fit five people) but I rather stay somewhere else now. :)

Glad to hear you were able to stay there - maybe things have changed about this "policy". :)

Hi Mickeyluv71 - :)

Yes, Coronado Springs has been my recent favorite as a solo traveler! :) One reason is the rooms are newish and seem very roomy to me. Another reason is that Coronado is a large circle in design, with the lake in the middle, so most main sidewalks aren't too remote from the main buildings (as unlike CBR, where I had to walk through the dark Parrots Cay island to get to main buildings at night). I also noticed plenty of people walking around the lake at night, so I always felt pretty safe there. Lots of adults around, since many conventioneers there. The pool is large so I never felt awkward swimming and getting "too close" to other people. The quiet pools are a decent size, too. I also rented bikes and boats, since I like doing that as a solo. :) I never had a problem with the buses.

I was given the Casitas each time I was there - I did not put in a room request (as I don't want to be disapointed again as at POR). I liked my room in Casita 4 better than Casita 3 since Casita 4 had the quiet pool right outside my door. The Casitas were an easy walk to the main building. Though, I certainly wouldn't have minded staying in the Cabana section - they looked pretty good, too. The Ranchos were the furthest out, so that would worry me abit if I stayed there as a solo, but it probably would have been fine. One warning about Casita 3 - it had a fourth floor and I kept getting lost trying to find the elevators!! But nothing too hard to handle. :)

I actually like the Pepper Market - I like having more choices to eat since I don't do sit-down restaurants solo. So I don't have to eat just chicken fingers or burgers every time, as with some of the other food courts. I did have a problem at the Pepper Market getting a server one time, but I shrugged it off. I ate there later in the week, and this time I had no problems and the staff was friendly. :)

The other reason I stayed at Coronado was price - Each time I stayed there I got the room for a great price - once for $83 a night, and once for $94 a night! Excellent prices for a moderate! :)

I really liked Coronado as a solo. Hope you do, too! Hope this helps! :)

Thanks HugsForEeyore!
I'll let you know how it goes. I got a really good rate on the room as well ~ just over $85/night including tax. At this point, I think I'm just going to stick with my non-smoking request and leave the rest up to the room assigners...and of course be extra polite on check-in! :D
Oh ~ do you remember if the beds have feather or regular pillows? If they're feather I need to remember to request regular cause of allergies but if they're regular I won't worry about it. Thanks!

~Beth

I agree that CSR is great for solos. I think it does help that there are conventioneers there (I don’t feel like I stick out so much being alone) and that the walkways are light and open. CSR is my favorite resort whether I’m alone or not. I’m a little nervous because my next trip I’m staying at the Poly and I wonder whether I’ll be as comfortable there alone. I’m a little sad because it seems like such a waste to have such a large room with no one in it but me! But I guess that’s something I’ll just have to live with! :smooth:

mickeyluv, I’d encourage you to put in a request for the Cabanas, bldg. 8A or 9B. The one time I didn’t put in a request I really didn’t like where I ended up (I think it was Ranchos). Cabanas 8A is closest to the main pool and a bus stop and 9B is closest to El Centro (main lobby, food court). I especially like 9B because it’s so close to the food court and you can use the bus stop at El Centro or the Cabanas. Have a great trip. btw, I’m pretty sure the pillows are not feather.
