We are going to WDW in February during Presidents week. I was shocked at how many points a Saturday night is! Do you just bite the bullet and use (waste?) points for that Saturday night or do you stay somewhere else for just that one night?

Since we will have left over points from 2004, we will use points both Friday and Saturday for our 2005 trip. My DH will only go once a year.

Onsite at Universal. Like to spend a couple days there and since weekend points are so high, we usually do Universal on weekends. BUT -- recently Universal adjusted some rates to be higher on weekends!!!

Honestly, we bought out points to use. I certainly understand your concern, but when I am on vacation, I refuse to count pennies or points. :smooth:

Agree . My orginal plans next april orginally was to stay at universal the weekened ,then move to property at Bwv.. Problem was from thur to sun , was 1000 bucks to stay at the cheapest resort in universal... Better to just borrow IMO then pay the cash that can be used down there for other important things..

We like to try non-dvc resorts. I would rather save the points and go twice a year. We just tried POP Century and liked it- you just cant compare it to DVC though. We have also done Universal resorts a few times on the weekends and will do it again.

If our add-on goes thru, we'll book Saturday to Saturday nights. But, as it stands now, we book Sunday to Saturday. We like trying out the other WDW resorts and this gives us that opportunity for those Fri and Sat nights before a Sunday check-in.

We're staying Oct 2-8 in a 1B at VWL. Its our first trip "home" since buying in to DVC Nov 01. We have enough points to cover for 6nights for that Sat-Thurs. Oct 8&9 we're staying at MILS over by Vero Beach.
Didnt want to borrow from next yrs points since we're planning another cruise

We stayed last President's Weekend on Saturday at BWV in cash. I didn't want to move but couldn't justify the points costing more than cash. I booked Saturday with a Member discount to secure the room and as it got closer checked with CRO. I got a better deal with an AP rate from CRO. They noted it was a continuing reservation and my DVC res. # and I had DVC note it was continuing from a CRO res and the #.

We checked in once and the CM's slide new keys under our door sometime detweem 2-5am. Be aware, although it worked for us, there is no guarantee that they won't make you check out and in (possibly to a different room).

Good luck
Sandy

When we bought our points we took the weekends into account. When we vacation we want to settle in once and enjoy. So we use our points on the weekends as needed.

We don't like to move during our vacations either, and stay through the weekends.

However, we typically drive to WDW from St. Louis on a Saturday and arrive very late at night. For that night, I just can't see spending DVC points to just collapse in a bed.

So we pick up a room with a mousesavers code for the night and the next morning head over to the DVC resort to check in. Other than that, we try not to relocate once we're there.

If I have the choice, I switch over to the Swan and Dolphin. We have their Amex, so it's only $60/night plus 4000 points when they are running cash/points there. Otherwise, you can get a free night there with 11K points, or you can get 1/2 the rack rate through SPG usually. Also, these hotels show up on Priceline from time to time, too. We have stayed some weekend nights at DVC resorts, but we try not to if we can help it. We don't really have enough points to spend them on peak holiday time weekend nights.

We stay put at OKW in our nice spacious 2 bedroom villa. That's why we bought DVC. We usually stay for 10 days with only one weekend stay, so two nights out of the 10 are pricey, but worth it to us.

We stay in our DVC...I don't like moving around unless it is going from one DVC to another. Even though I'm a new member, we've already had a couple Friday/Saturday nights via DVC accomodations.

If you think the points are high on the weekends during your stay look at the weekend points during easter and christmas. some of us dvc members have to travel during holidays because we dont want to take our kids out of school especially when they are in high school. if we dont want to use our points on the weekend, usually we enjoy moving at least once, we head over to the poly, contemperary,YC,GF. depends on what we have planned for the weekends where we stay on the weekends.:sunny:

We've tried a variety of things-staying at a non-DVC resort on cash, staying put but paying cash for that night, moving to a studio at a different DVC resort to try it out, moving to a studio at the same DVC resort. Next time we're going to go at a different, lower season, of the year, so we can stay put in a 1 BR and use fewer points for the entire week (6 nights in a 1 BR is fewer points at the lower season than 5 nites in a 1 BR+1 nite in a studio). We're really excited about this option that allows us to stay put. Never really liked the moving thing, but felt we had to do it in our present point situation (and current finances don't allow for more points-yet!)

We pay cash for the DVC room on the Saturday night. Sometimes we get a DVC discount, sometimes not.

Hate the idea of using those points or trying to move...

Since we live far away we always stay for two weekends, with one spent at Universal like others have suggested. Like many others we bought enough points to stay on weekends.

We use our points...I don't consider it a "waste"....It's why we bought them. IMHO I couldn't imagine wasting time in the middle of my vacation switching resorts.

We tried the moving thing our first couple of vacations and didn't really like wasting our time. We then bought more points. We even stay 2 weekends because we come in on Friday night and stay 9 nights until the following Sunday in order to get the most of our vacation without having to pull the kids out of school for too long.
