When you upgrade, do you sell used camera equipment on ebay? Or is there a better place to list it?

I have a Minolta Maxxum 7000 35mm film SLR, with a 35-75mm & a 100-300mm zoom lens. I am debating on listing it on Ebay.

I just recently learned that the 2 lenses I have may work on the new Sony Alpha line of DSLRs. At the time I got my Canon I was not aware of this. I got my Rebel XT as a Christmas gift from my dad in 2005. I admit I did not do a lot of research, I choose the camera based on a friend's reccomendation & her photo quality and on the fact that it is a smaller & lighter DSLR which means I am more likely to take it with me.

I recently stumbled upon my long ago packed away Maxxum & thought I should try & ebay it, but now I am wondering.... Should I keep the lenses? Would I ever buy a Sony body? Are the Sony DSLRs good? Do they hold up well? I know I will want to upgrade my camera body eventually, should I keep these lenses in case I like the Sony when I am ready to upgrade? Would these lenses actually work on a new body? What are they worth if I sell them???

In general I am not a Sony fan since we have had 2 Sony products & neither impressed me. Our first digital camera was a Sony Mavica. and our first camcorder was a Sony that stopped working after about 9 months of use. I had bought the extended warranty when I bought it, but was told it had been exposed to water & had a tape shoved in (neither of these were true) it therefore the warranty didn't cover it. I bought a panasonic camcorder for less than they wanted to fix the Sony. My friend's Sony camcorder also stopped working within a year.

So, where do you sell used equipment, how do you price it if you do?

DH has a Sony Alpha 100. We bought 2 lenses from eBay. The "beer can" was about $200, the other one I *think* is a 50 mm and we paid about $85 for that. He has decided he doesn't even particularly like the Sony, which doesn't make me very happy since we invested so much in the stupid accessories! :headache: Anyway, hope that helps!

your lenses will work on the Sony Alpha DSLRs, which are excellent cameras,

Sony bought Minoltas camera division, leeping the Minolta lens mount,

in the deal they got Minoltas factory and also Minoltas design team, the DSLRs they have released so far are great cameras,

the A200 won European camera of the year for it's class,

the A300and A350 have gotten good reviews so far..

Sonys are great(I am a lifetime Canon shooter).

Ebay... I would rather give away my old gear to a photo student, so I did. But I am only talking old 35mm bodies, lenses are a different story.

Amazon, has worked ofr me in the past. I have not sold a camera body. I have sold lenses, flash, etc. Sold fast and alot easier than ebay

If you use Ebay, just be aware of credit card charge back scams that can happen with camera equipment and other re-sellable electronic items.

Keep the film camera. Costco and many places develops film and transfers to digital so cheap these days, that it might be worth it to keep it. I have a friend with a Nikon D40 and D80 who just got a Nikon film just to play with the different films you can get.

You can also goto the minolta camera forums and sell it there as well. I tend to sell my old lenses on POTN (canon forum) first, then Ebay. My old Canon Digital Rebel (300D) was sold on ebay. I only accept payment from paypal verified buyers w/ money in their accounts and send everything UPS or Fed Ex.

is there a particular issue with the camera, or does he not like dealing with a DSLR and lenses

Jackskellington girl is my wife and she's taking a shot at me! I use mostly an Olympus but on ocassion the Alpha 100. During the past couple of days I've been playing with the Alpha and it's starting to grow more on me. I really like the colors that I'm getting from it. I really don't know which system that I like more. I need to decide before buying more accessories, trying to support two different systems puts a cramp in her pocketbook.

Not exactly.

Oogie just told me the other day that the reason he didn't use the Sony for more than one day when we were at WDW was because he was having problems with the battery. He used the Olympus 15 out of 16 days, and used the Sony one day. I figured he really didn't like the Sony - he never said there were battery problems!

I was simply stating my irritation at the situation of buying ALL those accessories for a camera he doesn't really care for. I was not taking a shot at my DH personally. I am pleased that the Sony is growing on him. ;)

It is also worth mentioning that DH bought that Olympus last November, then won the Sony in a contest at work in February. He is very new to the dSLR arena, so we might have been a bit too hasty in the purchase of the lenses and flash. He has been using both cameras without having a lot of time to completely learn either system.
