Where do you grocery shop when staying at DVC?

We were thinking of buying a DVC and wanted to know if you buy groceries on property and if so, how much more are you paying? If we get a 1 bedroom we could cook breakfast and other meals. Or do you shop someplace off site? How do you get there? We don't want to rent a car since we can use Magical Express. Thanks.

I know some people use the grocery delivery services when they don't want to rent a car. They look a bit more pricey than going yourself (I've been web comparison shopping), but still cheaper than renting a car.

I usually rent a car because we like to go to US/IOA for a day or two. We shop at Publix by the outlets.

I've heard good reviews about Garden Grocer, Wegoshop, and Goodings. Goodings seems to be a little more $ but the quality is excellent!

We have tried Goodings, handy, but expensive.

We have shopped Publix by the outlet mall (approximately 15 minutes from SSR) and prices are comparable to home and selections are good.

Last December we used Marge at the wegoshop delivery service and it was very satisfactory. They will shop the store you choose, no markup on the groceries and charge a reasonable shopping and delivery fee. Check out their website at wegoshop.com to get more details.

We shop at Winn Dixie the price is right. It's about 3 mins down the road from Goodings. About 5 minutes from SSR. It's very easy to get to. If you do get a car when you check in the CM will give you directions and a map.

What about taking a taxi from DTD? I know there are stores and such close by. I figured it would be cheaper than renting a car.

Here's a map with a few grocery stores marked.

We rent a car, so we are able to go to the Publix on SR192.

Without a car, it's a little tougher. You could call a cab to take you to the grocery store, if you plan on buying a lot of stuff.

All the gift shops sell groceries, but they tend to be expensive. Again though, if you are just planning on the basics, it's probably the easiest way.

Within WDW property are 2 Hess Express gas stations. One is located across from DTD. You could feasibly take the bus to DTD, walk across the street to go shopping and then take the bus back to your hotel. Again, though, you probably couldn't buy bags and bags of groceries.

The other Hess Express is located across from the Boardwalk hotel. Again, you could take a bus from your hotel to a park, change buses to the Boardwalk Hotel and then do the reverse when you were done with your shopping. The Hess Expresses have a decent selection of stuff.

There are also grocery delivery services in the area. I don't know much about those.

We rent a car as we still have a little one in an infant seat. Walmart is our first destination after checking in. It's a little further, but you know what you are getting/paying.

There is also a couple of SuperTargets in the area.

I think you are going to have to decide what's more important to you:

Is Magical Express and not having the cost of a rental car more important? If so, the most convenient option would be to purchase your groceries at your resort at a higher price OR use a grocery delivery service with their delivery fee. We have used Wegoshop with Marge as the owner and can recommend them.

Is getting to the grocery store yourself so you get what you want for the price you want more important?
Then I'd do a rental car. You could do a one way rental from the airport and turn it in on property, depending on where you are staying. I believe there are National and Alamo on property and they will take you back to your resort from what I've read on the boards. I don't know about the other rental agencies.

We drive so we obviously have our car with us.

We shop at Wal-Mart down the road. Take a right outside the DTD gateway and it is a straight shot about 3 miles down the road.

We always rent a car . . and we used to go to Goodings (back when it was new). It was expensive but had wonderful gourmet items, was very safe and most important to me, very clean. But, I think it has gone down hill quite a bit (could use a little refurbishment). The last few times we have went down the street to Winn Dixie. Be sure and sign up for their customer card (no charge) that will save you quite a bit. However, the last time we were there (November 07) we ran into some pretty unpleasant patrons. The store clerk's drawer became jammed and he whipped out a switchblade from his pocket (it was BIG) and fixed his own drawer! Yikes! Not so sure we'll venture down there again. I only shop at Wal-Mart in an emergency. I really don't care for their quality of . . . most anything, including food no matter what the price.

We may just end up back at Goodings next time.

We always drive, so we have a car. We shop at Wal Mart grocery on 535. It is a few minutes further than Publix, but well worth the savings. We also buy alot of our souveniers at Wal Mart. It is great, because we usually use our budgeted grocery money and the prices are the same as home.

We have used Wegoshop for our two DVC trips. It has worked out very well. We send her a list of exactly what we want-- sizes, flavors, when to buy generic & when we want the name brand only. She delivers to the room & we pay for the groceries + I think a $17 fee. (We also tip on top of that.) For us it is SO worth not having to rent a car and not having to find our way around and not having to spend time in the store when we could be at the resort pool!

Another fan of Publix. I love shopping there and adore their sweet tea!

When we go down this trip, we'll likely go to Winn Dixie on 535/Vineland, although we will have a car. This would be a short tax ride from SSR and DTD.

You can always send a package to yourself from home with non parishable items. My sister does this and it works great. Delivery items are much less this way

We shop at the Publix off SR 192 and International Drive.
