Where do you buy your furniture??

We just bought new furniture at Morris (may be a local thing) but they carried FlexSteel and that lasts forever, the springs never give out. I hate sitting on a couch and falling half way to the floor. DD tends to sit very hard on the couch! Not to mention the 2 labs who think as soon as we leave they can sleep on the furniture!

Look for 8 way hand tied springs when you're buying couches and chairs. Pieces made that way are meant to last.

We've had the same experience with the mainstream furniture stores. We have a wholesale wearhouse place here and a couple of years ago, I bought 2 chairs. They've been perfect, and I paid about a quarter of what the big stores are selling them for AND they delivered same day for $25. So, a month ago, I needed a new chest of drawers. I love the mahoghany finish and found one at the same store for $199. With tax and delivery, it came to $237, and its perfect.

Call me cheap, but I won't go anywhere else. I figured if its going to fall apart after a couple of years, at least I didn't pay retail, but my chairs have been amazing and have lasted a lot longer than I ever expected them to.

Don't buy Lane furniture. We bought a loveseat and double reclining sofa and paid a good price for it and it was falling apart within 3 months. We got a full refund, but I would never buy anthing from them again.

When we moved into our house over 4 years ago I bought a sofa & chair and a sectional sofa from Sofa Express. I liked that I could custom order my items by choosing a style of furniture and the fabric. The price was good, the salesperson was great and the delivery was as promised.

Last year I tried to buy a bedroom set from them but ended up not buying. They tried to deliver it the first time and things were broken and parts were missing. I gave them a second chance and things were broken again! So, I told them to cancel the sale. Funny, they are now known as "Sofa Express & More"....my DSis says the "& More" stands for "& More Hassle".

The store by us is closing by the way. I wonder if they are just closing some stores or are they out of business?

We bought a love seat and couch almost 10 years ago from Crowley's (a local store). It's made by Lane and look as good as they day we bought them...seriously! Both of them have the double recliners and although they are stubborn to put down sometines they are in great shape! It helps that we bought a darkish color (dark olive), but they've with stood my DH and both my kids so far.

Mpst of my furniture is from Ethan Allen as I used to work there briefly and got a great discount. I have a few pieces from other manufacturers as well, but mostly Ethan Allen. It really is good furniture. Pricey, but worth it. Of course, you can find something wrong with every brand.

What place are you thinking of?? Darvin?? We need new family room couches and haven't been able to find somethnig we like that is reasonably priced. I tend to get something every 6 years or so and hate to spend a ton of money on it.

Its a store in a little town just west of Kankakee called Leiser Furniture.. We priced a Lane set at Darvin, they wanted $2900 for it, friend suggested I call this place, when I did I told him what we wanted and the price Darvin quoted us, he shot us a price of $1900.. A few months later we wanted a entertainment center and end table set from Broyhill, Darvin wanted $1150, this other place wanted $650

The thing is, they don't deliver and its a place from a horror story.. Building was built in the late 1800's and they haven't put a dime into the building since, stairs that don't seem safe, no A/C, ceiling leaks but is caught by huge sheets of plastic...They are bare bones with no overhead, if they can make $100 on a $2000 purchase, they make money and know it..

Has anyone used the Hickory Furniture Mart? They have a Mitchell Gold (Restoration Hardware supplier) outlet, along with lots more. I just got an email that they were having a sale the middle of this month. Wish I was about 700 miles closer!

Haverty's. After shopping all the other places for bedroom furniture, I went to Haverty's and found good quality furniture.

I also tried to find a nice kitchen table and after looking at the other stores again, ended up buying a perfect one at Haverty's.

One day I'll learn to go straight to Haverty's and save time.

Another vote for Ikea. All of our living room furniture with the exception of our sofa is Ikea. We bought a microsuede sofa from Haverty's a few years ago and love it. Our dining room set is Ikea. Our wrought iron bedframe is from Ikea too. I have had no problems with the quality of stuff. We have an arm chair and a matching ottoman from Ikea and they are really comfy. We have them in a cordoroy fabric in red. Fabulous! I buy a lot of stuff from Ikea because it's cheap, fairly good quality and if something breaks (which it hasn't thus far) I know I didn't spend a fortune on it. Our closest Ikea is 5 hrs away in Dallas but luckily we have family there so we go often to pick up this and that.

If you live close to a fairly large town or are willing to drive, you might want to check craigslist. You can find some nice stuff on there really cheap if people are moving and just want to get rid of it. If you live near a college town, wait til spring and stuff will be on there for next to nothing!

I'm not sure where you are in NY, but we've got lots of stores in NY state!

Havertys all the way.

When we were finally able to get "grown up furniture" after 5 kids, we headed to Havertys.

We got a wonderful dining room set, with hutch and sideboard, along with 10 chairs. The table had 2 leaves.
At the same time we got a full bedroom set of king bed, dresser w/mirror, side table, tall boy dresser and armoir.
Then a sofa and love seat.

Everything has exceeded out wishes. I would shop there in a minute.

The often have great sales around holidays and awesome financing.

Well I can tell you what not to buy. La-Z-Boy!!!! We spent a fortune on a pullout sofa and loveseat. It is the biggest piece of garbage ever made. They will not do anything about it. It is only guaranteed for a short period of time. In less than a year the cushions were completely flat and the chaise part is wonderful if you like your feet up in the air. The material is all torn as well. We are not hard on our furniture. The couched we threw out were in better shape than our new couches were when they were less than a year old. So you don't always get what you pay for. This set was quite a few thousand. Ripoff.

Well all my new furniture is from Ethan Allen. It's all sitting in the warehouse right now waiting for my house to be finished but I'm sure it'll be good quality when it finally comes.
