Where Do You Buy Luggage?

We use TravelPro luggage. Have taken it on numerous cruises (those longshoremen handling the luggage on the pier are not very gentle) and flights including flights to Europe which involved changes of planes and all the pieces still look like new after 15 years.

Are you a member of COSTCO? (or do you have a friend who's a member)

Three piece is a waste. You don't need the 29" bag and the 25" bag. If the 29" bag is legal (including the wheels and handles) you won't want to be using the 25" bag and if the 29" bag is too big you'll be using the 25" bag and only using the larger bag on car trips.

You want 2 bags. A bag which is legal to check and a bag which is legal for carryon.

No, I'm not a member, and we don't have a Costco with in 4 hours of us anyways.

Actually, I need a variety of sizes. I'm going to be checking two bags no matter what, and then have a carry on, whether or not it's one that comes in a set. Normally I fly Southwest, but I'm moving abroad and flying Virgin Atlantic, so I need some that will last me over there. What do you mean by legal? Are you talking about the size limit? Because the 29" one is certainly within all dimensions with quite a bit of leeway for the wheels... Unless they're more than 7" themselves, which seems excessive to me? Maybe I'm wrong, but I assume most wheels add less than 5"...

I have a lot of traveling planned within the next year, so I need a variety of sizes. At least one big one, for the initial move, a mid-size one for traveling with once I'm over there, and a new carry on wouldn't hurt, though I normally use my backpack. Everything I don't use myself will be going to my niece for when she comes to visit me anyways, so a set seems ideal.

The main problem with a 29" bag is that they can get really heavy really fast. The one you're looking at is 10lbs before you put a single thing in it. You don't want to be one of "those people" who is frantically moving stuff from one bag to another to get them all under the weight limit and you certainly don't want to have to pay more for an overweight bag. FTR. my mom was one of "those people" and I had to help her move stuff around. I swear, she packs so heavily that she would have been happy as a clam during the days of steamer trunks.

I am talking about legal size wise. 29" + 20" + 13" = 62" 62" is the linear size limit for most airlines. The bag doesn't a lot of leeway. The bag doesn't have any leeway. The bag won't be legal if the mfg doesn't include the wheels and the handle (when lowered). The bag won't be legal if you pack anything in the pocket which causes it to protrude by any measurable amount. Don't put anything in the pocket and the bag might be legal.

You need one (or two) bags which you can check. The 29" bag might be over sized and is likely to be overweight when packed. I'd skip the intermediate size bag. Get a 27" or 28" bag. Get a carry on roller bag.

edited to add--The additional cost to check a bag which is overweight and over sized is almost $100 with many airlines.
