Where do "two people eat like one" at Disney

I always hear and read about these supersized plates at Disney restaurants that can be shared but so far I haven't run across them, so let me ask a few questions.

Full Disclosure time: I have 2 teenage sons both over 6ft 2. and a big dh.

1) People who split, are both people satisfied? We tried the "split a burger" suggestion that seems to be popular. went to Pecos bill, asked for an extra bun and we made 2 little burgers. Sorry, I was still hungry.

2) do you find you snack between. Once again dh and I tried splitting a salad at the MK and it was fine for about 1 hour, shortly after, we were looking for the kios that sold those "turkey legs"

Where are these restaurants that supposed to give enough to feed 2? :confused3

I have also heard these suggestions but haven't tried them since my DH and I are on different wavelengths when it comes to food.

However, one spot we do always split at is Cosmic Rays. We get the turkey bacon wrap (minus bacon), fries and a drink. The wrap is really big so I end up with my half of the wrap and a couple of fries. I would think that half a wrap would not be enough for DH but the rest of the fries seem to tide him over. Other than that, I haven't seen dinners large enough to split for two adults.

I am interested in hearing from those that do this! It would be great to save a couple of bucks this coming trip.

We've split often.

Sit downs that we have split at-
Yak and Yeti(there is a steak and shrimp meal that is huge!)

Tutto Italia pastas

For fast food we always order 4 meals for 6. Trying to split a salad though wouldn't be our first choice. A chicken tenders meal would be more like it. Particularly in the magic kingdom.

The Fried Chicken at Prime Time Cafe. That and one milkshake will easily feed two people.

My husband/I just about always split lunch as we're light eaters. Like at the Columbia Harbor House we'll split a tuna sandwich, we've split the taco salads, etc. We're just not big eaters. However for dinner we just about always each order a meal.

We've never specifically tried to split. We always get the dining plan. There are a few places though where I noticed we ended up wasting food because we were too full to finish.
Wolfgang Puck Express in DTD was the most notable one. We all love it there but we never seem to finish. I always got the spaghetti and could have easily shared it with one of the kids.. it's a big portion. And Dh could have easily split his pizza from there with one of the kids as well. You might want to round it out with a soup or something. But we got those items a few times and nobody ever seemed to finish it all.

I think it all depends on your family and appetites. Often when we're there it's just to hot to eat a really big meal.

Cosmic Rays in the MK has 1/2 chicken and Rib Combo. It's huge and we always split that.

With 2 big boys and a big DH, I think you will be hard pressed to find a meal to share that will fill them unless they are not really hungry. Salad is definately not the way to go.. I had one myself for lunch and I was hungry after an hour or 2. With all the walking you really need some serious protein to keep you full.
But there are definately some larger meals out there. I shared quite a few plates with my kiddos (but they are only 8 & 9)
Some that we shared:
1. The Turkey sandwich at Sunshine Season - It is a good sized sandwich and comes with a side salad.
2. The ribs at Flame Tree with a side of beans, and coleslaw.
3. The fried shrimp plate at Columbia Harbour House.
4. The lamb/chicken schwarma platter at Tangerine Cafe in Morocco.
5. At Pizzafari DD and I shared the Antipasto Salad and an order of breadsteaks.
6. Pretty much anything at Wolfgang Puck Express @ DTD - not only are the portion sizes big enough to share, the food is outstanding.
HTH. :)

In terms of splitting I would also think the sit down dinners/meals would be a better choice with bigger portions. The counter meals are probably smaller/more fast-food like (individual portions). I am reading this thread and love the tips!

I think it would work better at TS places than CS. I will say this really would not work for DFH and I as we always want completly different things for meals. We cant even order and split a pizza!
My nephew and I split an adult CS meal but I really cant think of any CS meal that is enough for two adults.

DH and I split things at EVERY TS meal.

Generally we'll split an appetizer, and then we'll split an entree. It's cheaper than buying 2 entrees, and we're just as satisfied. And that way, we get to try different things. Being vegetarian, we don't have a TON of options at many TS places, but there's almost always a vegetarian appetizer and a vegetarian entree. We've also been known to put together our own 'entree' by ordering just 2 appetizers.

I always pack snacks in my bag, too. And occasionally we'll go get a 'treat' while walking around the Epcot countries if we still want a later snack.

I have boys too and I have to tell you, our opportunities to split meals are far fewer than they were.

What we have done though is to have a late lunch, around 2:30 or so, and then leave the parks for a late dinner at the condo.

My older boys can easily eat the chicken meal at Cosmic Ray's. The WHOLE thing.

Now, I sometimes split with the 7 year old, but he often still wants a granola bar or snack pretty soon after.

I have noticed the meals getting smaller too. I remember there was a great place outside of Thunder Mountain RR at Disneyland where you could get a huge plate (more like a platter) with 1/2 chicken, a very large corn muffin, large portion of slaw and baked beans, for around $8. When the two older boys were young, I used to take them to DL by myself and we would all 3 split that meal and still have some left over sometimes.

Actually.... for us, the CS meals seem just as big :goodvibes

We rarely eat CS, but if we do, we almost always split. (and have like a granola bar or piece of fruit from my snack stash in my purse :thumbsup2)

I'm glad I'm not the only one wondering this! When we went to Disney we had it in our head that these portions were going to be big enough for us to split. That didn't work. We had to order our own meals! At Prime Time Cafe, we ate out own pot roast platter and fried chicken platter. At Sci Fi we each had an appetizer, milkshake, burger and fries. And we ate it all:lmao:
Then at the Main Street Bakery we decided to get the Cinnamon Bun and split it because of all the reviews......and we did split it....except the next day we each got our own and ate the whole thing. So I'm in the same boat as you.....I found nothing to split. We did split a funnel cake, and I was tempted to go back and get another one of those:lmao:

I don't think that people who say they split meals would suggest this for people with teenage boys or a big DH??? We split meals at Disney (and when we go out at home) almost every meal. However I am a light eater and have 2 teen GIRLS who are light eaters. I would also say that my DH is a light eater for a guy. He routinely gets entree salads as his meal. But I rarely share with him.

Also, I don't think its fair to split a salad and then question where all the places are at Disney where you can share. I have never once read on a sharing thread about people splitting a salad?? :confused3 People suggest splitting the ribs/chicken meal at Cosmic Rays and things like that.

On the "buy an extra bun and split a double cheeseburger" situation, I would say in most instances people who suggest that were talking about little kids, not teen boys.

Here are a few of the meals that we have shared:
Steak and shrimp meal at Yak and Yeti
Chicken meal at Whispering Canyon Cafe (this is NOT the all you can eat skillet)
Steak and shrimp and rib meal at Rainforest Cafe
Chicken and rib meal at Cosmic Rays
Chicken parmesan meal at Mama Melrose
Nachos at ESPN Zone
Steak sandwich at Beaches and Cream so we could have a little room for one of the sundaes

Your family might not be one that can use this savings technique due to the makeup of the family. Just like my family can't take advantage of any savings the Dining Plan would offer. Not everyone can use all the "tips".

If I had teen boys and a big DH, I would definitely get the dining plan and eat our TS meals at buffets. I think that would be your best bet.

We are the same way. I always hear how people split the meals, but the only thing we ever split is a Turkey Leg! Nobody wants a whole one and everyone wants a taste. I guess we just eat more than many people.

I have been with my mom this week and have noticed she eats very little. I feel like a glutton when I finish my banana and she only eats 3 bites and saves the rest for later. I fixed a normal size dinner for her and my dad last night and she told me they can eat on it for 3 days! It is one meal for us!

i find this one to be big, a taco salad from Peco's, the breakfast platters at the resorts (with the eggs, bacon, and pancakes), and a few of the meals at Seasons leave me feeling a bit stuffed and more than I want to eat while walking around.

Then at the Main Street Bakery we decided to get the Cinnamon Bun and split it because of all the reviews......and we did split it....except the next day we each got our own and ate the whole thing. Not necessarily that the sweets aren't big enough, but it helps portion size it back to a decent amount, rather than over indulging. Some people say it's vacation, and out the window to all the eating habits you have at home. Other's find ways to resist the temptation of eating too much by sharing.

For me, I can be satisfied with a kids meal at some places, and the person I shared with was the same way. We'd either get our own kids meal or share a regular meal. It wasn't all that often we ordered a full entree each.

Here are some pictures of the food we split:

We have had the dining plan every time we have gone and found it to be too much food......which is odd because we are normally big eaters. We find ourselves feeling "overstuffed" most of the day/night.

But we do eat more often so????????? With everything that is included with the dining plan, we usually end up waddling away from the table.:rotfl:

So I guess that I am not much help.....sorry

Another thing I would suggest is to look through the food picture thread on the Restaurant Board. I found that very helpful in determining whether something was shareable or not.
