Where do "two people eat like one" at Disney

Shared a meal LOL. My son 8 already eats us out house home. 8 year old and 4 old girls do the same. Then getting mom to share is impossible.

When I go on vacation. I always check out my dining options just to keep the peace.

:wave2:Can you get away with sharing a skillet at the Whispering Canyon?

I have not read all the replies.

Last May we went with 5/6 of our boys to WDW. The last time we had 6/6 of them there was the Christmas before that. They are now 24, 23, 21, 18, 13 and 7 --so going back a couple of years age-wise wouldn't make much difference. Everyone was always stuffed...never hungry. I think snacking is the reason why. If they have just had a cinnamon roll or cupcake an hour before meal time, they are not starving when meal-time rolls around. Also, I find that when we dine at at restaurant that serves chips or bread before the entrees are brought to the table, we are quite filled up before the main dishes arrive. We often will order an appy or two to share. The boys can share certain entrees and then they can each order their own dessert. Truthfully, we always allow everyone to order their own items, but there have been times, especially in hot weather, that they WANT to share...especially if they have already had bread or another appy and they know they are getting dessert.

I do think WPE is a good QS place to share food.

I always hear and read about these supersized plates at Disney restaurants that can be shared but so far I haven't run across them, so let me ask a few questions.

Full Disclosure time: I have 2 teenage sons both over 6ft 2. and a big dh.

1) People who split, are both people satisfied? We tried the "split a burger" suggestion that seems to be popular. went to Pecos bill, asked for an extra bun and we made 2 little burgers. Sorry, I was still hungry.

2) do you find you snack between. Once again dh and I tried splitting a salad at the MK and it was fine for about 1 hour, shortly after, we were looking for the kios that sold those "turkey legs"

Where are these restaurants that supposed to give enough to feed 2? :confused3

If we split a counter service meal it is because we plan to have something else later.

We love Columbia house. There is not way we could both eat 1/2 a sandwich and split a bag of potato chips and not be hungry before the next meal. We might do this and both get a bowl of soup but then it is not really splitting a meal.

I think it all depends on your family and appetites. Often when we're there it's just to hot to eat a really big meal.

We're the same in the heat. Though it worked the same in the dreadful cold of last December...I lost something like 10 pounds...at least one pants size...now if only I could have kept it off. Just wasn't hungry AND all the walking...did wonders for me.

DH and I split things at EVERY TS meal.

Generally we'll split an appetizer, and then we'll split an entree. It's cheaper than buying 2 entrees, and we're just as satisfied. And that way, we get to try different things. Being vegetarian, we don't have a TON of options at many TS places, but there's almost always a vegetarian appetizer and a vegetarian entree. We've also been known to put together our own 'entree' by ordering just 2 appetizers.

I always pack snacks in my bag, too. And occasionally we'll go get a 'treat' while walking around the Epcot countries if we still want a later snack.

That's us, too.

Have you tried the tofu dish at Brown Derby? To die for! We split it (and a mushroom ravioli appetizer), the portion looked tiny b/c of the enormous bowl we each had, but we were struggling to finish it b/c the reality was that each portion was so big. So good.

On the "buy an extra bun and split a double cheeseburger" situation, I would say in most instances people who suggest that were talking about little kids, not teen boys.

I agree.

this was us!!

thanks for the suggestions everyone. We tried the 1/2 chicken platter at cosmic rays. I order 2 for the 4 of us and the boys ended up going back and ordering a 3rd one. :rotfl:

Well, if you just order 3 entrees instead of 4, and if everyone's happy, you've still saved one entree's worth.

We start off sharing, and if someone's hungry later, they get something else!

I agree. No tip works for everyone. :confused3 It's pretty simple - if you have big appetites don't share meals. If you have small appetites - share meals.

:)

DS is the one that eats the most during our Disney trips. That boy...we've started getting him adult meals at Mexican restaurants at home, after the one time he was so hungry he needed TWO kid's plates, which cost more than the adult entree would have. They look at us funny, he's only just turned 7 after all, but the kid can eat!

And it's about the same at DLR/WDW.

Not so much in the parks, that we found. However, at POR DH, DD and I split the create your own pasta and create your own sald between the three of us and still have leftovers. That is a HUGE portion!

Agree.. the make your own pasta at POR is huge. I have a decent appetite, but there's no way I can finish it all.

My DH and I often split CS meals. At Cosmic Rays, we split the chicken sandwich. We get a side of fries for him and side of green beans for me. We also split the double bacon burger at Pecos Bills with fries. We also split a sandwich at Earl of Sandwich with chips (for DH ) and a side salad (for me).

My DH is a light eater and I am a grazer. I would rather have a half a sandwich with something on the side than only eat the sandwich. -- Suzanne

I dont think that your going to find a meal to split for two 6ft. boys and a big dh. (But I think you already know that!!!!)

The people that split either have
-smaller children who don't eat a full meal.
-adults that are light eaters.
-people that want a small meal because- a. they have a large dinner planned and want a light lunch. b. they plan to try some Disney snacks and want room in there tummy for that! c. sometimes when its super hot/humid, people just dont want to eat a ton of food.

When we are on the free dining plan, we usually spilt 2-3 counter service meals for the four of us when we are at a water park. If we didnt do that then the desserts would need to be tossed as we are usually too full after the meal to eat that too, then go and hit the slides!!!!

I do think that there are many places that serve larger meals, but if your a family that eats larger meals than the tip to share is obvioulsy not one for you!!!

Eat up eveybody!!!!

To the OP-I admire your passion to try to share meals with 2 teenage boys! :) I have 3 boys, and all 3 are very big eaters. They usually each eat their own meal and then some of mine and sometimes some of DH's as well, and they're not even big boys yet.

I just laughed to myself when I read your post, picturing my boys and me telling them they had to share a meal.

But in true respose I have to say, as some other have already mentioned, Cosmic Ray's has pretty big portions as does Prime Time Cafe. We have also done what another poster suggested, order something like 3 chicken tender meals for the 5 of us-but, this is usually if we have a large dinner planned for later in the day.

Have fun, enjoy! :earsboy:

Rather than order 2 meals for 4 people, I would recommend you order 3... still splitting but you probably will be satisfied and not have leftovers.

This works for us - although are on the QSDP - me, DH and DD's 19 and 13 can order 3 CS meals along with dessert and share and still be satisfied.

With you DH and DS's sharing probably isn't an option - I honestly don't think most CS meals are that big :confused3 like others have posted.

:wave2:Can you get away with sharing a skillet at the Whispering Canyon?

I'm not going to take the time to search but my memory is a few posters did. You have to ask/tell your server when you order. Your initial skillet may be a little smaller and of course you won't get seconds.

Splitting a CS meal isn't diet friendly. JMO but the only way 2 people will have enough to eat is if you eat all the french fries.

Sharing meals would never work for our family either. We have never even tried it-total waste of time. We do the deluxe dining plan and STILL pay OOP for some meals because we like signatures. :goodvibes

My sons are very active (multiple sports) 12 & 14 and huge eaters. Same with DH. They are all very TALL. ;) My DD 9 is the smallest eater in our family.

I don't consider myself a "huge" eater but I can easily finish the steak and shrimp at Yak n Yeti. I'm totally surprised to read so many people split this entree.

I really disagree that portions at TS places are large enough to share. Last trip we ate at Rose and Crown, Flying Fish, Narcoossees, Yachtsman Steakhouse (twice), Raglan Road, Cape May cafe, Le Celliar, SCi-Fi (lunch), Brown Derby (lunch), Coral Reef (lunch), Tutto Italia (lunch), ESPN (lunch), Yak n Yeti (lunch). We also did character breakfasts pretty much every morning, which can't be shared of course.

I really don't feel that many TS places had large portions. I would say the largest were Tutto Itlaia and ESPN. With ESPN, I'm really refering the size of appetizers, not main course items, which I thought were normal size.

Many of the TS places my family thought had small portions, especially the signature places. I really fail to see how someone could "split" an 8 OZ filet and a little crabcake (as in 1 tiny crab cake) appetizer and be like "Wow, I am so full, thank God I split that meal with someone!" :rotfl:

We don't really eat CS meals, perhaps they are large enough to share, I don't know. All I know is that if I told my family that we would have to share our dinners at Flying Fish, or anywhere for that matter, they would look at me like I was nuts! ;)

I remember last summer at Pecos Bills (MK; in Fronteirland) I ordered some kind of wrap (turkey maybe?). I have a big appetite and it could have easily fed 2 people. I specifically remeber looking at my daughter, also a big eater, and saying "we shoulda split this".

Also, at the Studios, Brown Derby, the cobb salad can be split. They serve it with a basket of rolls and you have a very filling meal. Can't remember if they charge for sharing.

I also concur about the chicken dinner at Cosmic Rays. Although I've never had it myself, some of my Disney friends have mentioned they split it.

My inlaws split EVERY counter service meal when we travel with them.

When I went with DMom and DSis, we split 2 CS meals among the three of us and we were all satisfied. We're not big snackers, either. Just not big eaters.

When I go with DH, I almost always end up giving him some of my CS meals, and I never get a dessert with CS.

I never shared a meal at TS, but I also generally do not eat every last morsel on my plate. And I don't always get appys and 'zerts.

Of couse, just b/c something works for one person doesn't mean it will work for everyone, and that if someone does things differently than you , it doesn't mean they are "wrong" and you are "right" - as so many of these debate tend to devolve into.

This is exactly us... especially the last part.

Honestly, we don't eat huge portions (I always bring home 1/2 my meal whenever we eat out) and all of us, but especially DH, don't ever feel like eating an entire meal when it's hot (we live in a very cold climate so FL is hot for us). Usually our eating habits while at WDW consists of snacking throughout the day. My kids are now 12, 7, and 5. When the they were even younger we never ordered the kids meals and would order just one or two adult meals for them to split (often with some left over for DH and I to finish). DH and I might split a sandwich later. We never purchased a dessert (at the same time as a meal) or often even a full meal and only drank water while we're in the parks. I always brought fruit/nuts/etc and we really just looked at the split meals as more "snacks"

When my parents and sisters went for their first trip they got the Deluxe DP in the super heat of September. DH and I couldn't imagine how they were going to eat 2TS and 1CS meals with appetizers and desserts every day, but they ate everything and could not imagine not having full meals.

My parents joined us for our most recent trip and we decided to try the free dining. It was nice to do the TS meals, but we threw away alot of food and usually didn't even bother with the desserts. We always felt full and were fairly disappointed that we had no desire to use our snack credits-- we had planned to have lots of treats and try things at the F&W festival, but we just couldn't eat any more. One plus was that my oldest DD had just hit one of those crazy teen eating spurts and usually ordered the same entree as DH and ate more than he did at every meal. If this happens with the next two kids, we definitely will not be able to share meals for much longer. :upsidedow

We almost never split table service meals. For counter service, 3 meals will be enough for the 4 of us, but one meal is never enough for 2..and we are not really huge eaters.

this was us!!

I may have to accept the reality that my family is not the "sharing" type. LOL.

Maggie, I will check out those pictures.

I am right there with you. I have only one teenage boy, 14 ,5'10" and a 31 inch waste. He won't share, he will let you have a taste and then sit there patiently and wait for anyone that isn't going to finish their food so he can swoop down on it. DH and I could share a meal and sometime do, but for DS, Nope, no way. And that darn kid walks around pulling up his pants, he only grows upward, not outward. Complete opposite of me. I really don't like that kid sometimes. :goodvibes

I don't think people are saying that every entree at every restaurant is big enough to share. There are some entrees at some restaurants that can be shared (by light eaters).

Personally, 4 oz. of a filet would be my ideal size. So I would be glad to share that meal.

Maggie
