I may be looking to book a studio for 2 nights in October and I am out of points. I have used up my transfer, I have maxed out my OTU's and I am not interested in renting so those are not options. If I were to go through member services, is the studio availability for cash the same as it would be for points? Meaning, if it's not available for points, I cannot book it with the 25% discount? Or, is there a different "pool" of studios that Member Services can rent out for cash at the 25% discount? OR....do I need to wait and see if there is an even BETTER deal that comes available later through CRO and try and get a studio that way??? It's just 2 nights (a Tues/Wed) for DD and I and I'm looking for SSR, RIV or OKW.

There is a different pool of units available for cash vs points. The units available for cash are the result of members using points to book other Disney experiences like cruises or ABD.

The rooms are cash are different than points so you have to call MS to see if they have the nights you want that way. Those cash based rooms are either ones pulled in anticipation of breakage, ones that were booked using DVD's own points, or from trades out of the system (though, those are usually on the CRO site).

RIV is still 50% owned by DVD, so getting cash rooms via CRO is going to be much higher than the other ones. All you can do is call and see what is available, if anything, as there are some nights where MS shows nothing for a cash booking.

Maybe I confused myself....

I guess what I am asking is...is there a difference between booking a "cash" room through member services and calling my travel agent to book a room? Are the rooms coming from the same "pool"? In order to (potentially) get the 25% member discount, I assume that I would have to go through member services instead of my travel agent, right?

Travel agents have the rooms that are with CRO.

MS had access to different rooms but might have access to the same rooms at CRO.

And yes, to get the DVC discount..which isn’t always available…you do need to go through MS.

Sounds like it is time for an add-on contract!
