I looked on the web site and saw a few rest. under night life.
Are there any kid type places to set down and eat or are they all just some kind of fast food where you stand in line???
Are there none like over at Disney??
Thanks

There are all types of places to eat in the parks, City Walk and the resorts, just like at WDW. From counter service to upscale, there is something for everyone

Our favs would be
IOA:
sitdown: Mythos
couter service: Enchanted Oak

US:
Sitdown: Finagan's
Counter service: International Food and film Festival

City Walk:
Sitdown: Margarittaville
Counter service: Patamore (has both sitdown and counter)

RPR resort
Sitdown causal: Islands Diningroom
Sitdown upscale: Emeril's Tchoup Chop

Sha_lyn our favorite place to eat at Universal is the Enchanted Oak. Great food, for amusement park counter service, and one of the best values around. A chicken plate will easily feed two adults.

One of my fave counter serves at IOA is Thunder Falls Terrace in Jurassic Park.

It's so good!

Thunder Falls Terrace. We have never eaten there, but after looking at the menu will have to try it during our trip in May.

Need to add Boulangerie and Croissant Moon for great sandwich plates.

Thanks everyone!!

What would you recommend for B-day boy turning 8?

Also are there any where you need to make ADR? Like WDW?

Thanks again!!

Hmmm.... depends on the day of the week.
Island's Diningroom has character meals a couple of nights a week. 1 night is scooby and shrek I believe. I think that is on Mondays. There is also a night with a magician.

At margarittaville they have stilt walkers, balloon animals etc.

A 50" plasma, paintball gun and a go cart. :D

A lot depends on whether or not you are in the mood to sit down at the time. Like previously mentioned, there's plenty of choices to choose from anywhere from fast food to upscale at both parks.

If you are ready for a short break to recharge and want to sit down for a bit, you also have all the City Walk options - Margaritaville and Bubba Gump's have an atmosphere that's plenty interesting for kids (as well as adults).

Point being, don't overestimate the distance/hassle of leaving the park for a bit - or underestimate the value of taking a break in the middle of a hectic day of hitting all the rides.

Good thread and great link sha lyn. Staying onsite for the first time in March, we'll be trying many of the retaurants and the menus in the link are great for our planning.

With all the raves, we will be checking out Mythos. One question though, is the dress casual at Mythos? I'm sure we'll be decked out in theme park comfortable clothes vs. tucked in shirts and pants.

I really enjoyed the sandwich I had for lunch at Blondies last trip. Something nice and light before hitting Ripsaw Falls :)

I'll second this opinion of The Enchanted Oak, we eat there several times on every trip to the parks

Second Thunder Falls we ate there in june and they have great chicken and ribs and also love that they have whole ear of corn that has been grilled in its husk and can't wait to go there this year.

Mythos doesn't have a dress code. More than once, we came in wet after riding one of the water rides prior to eating.

As for our dining habits, we usually eat dinner at Citywalk. For lunch, at IOA, its Mythos for us all of the time. At Universal Studios, we've been satisfied with a pizza from Louie's or food from the International Food and Film Festival, both of which are stand-in-line fast food. However, on our last trip, we dined at Finnegan's and really liked it. I'm sure it will become our normal lunch for future visits to Universal Studios like Mythos is at IOA.

yep Finnegan's is out must do lunch at US.
When the weather is hot, I get the Cobb salad. It has corned beef and a sctch egg on it. When it's cooler out I get the mixed Grill or the potpie.

Mythos is our must do IOA lunch. Everything is good, but I usually get the risotto of the day. If we return there on the same trip I'll get the chicken salad or the pad thai

Favorite at Mythos was always the Balsamic Chicken - sadly, it was off the menu last May.
