Where do I start?

I am new on this Dis Board (usually on the cruise and DVC boards).

I want to start with the New Year (like so many others) with a new healthier way of eating and I need to lose a LOT of weight. When I go on the cruise in March 2006, I would really like to get a NICE family photo that I am not trying to hide in (I usually try to get the kids in front of me so only a little of me shows in the pictures).

So where do I start? How does this board work? I plan to use Weight Watchers, but I don't plan to go to the meetings (I have the books and info already). I am saving for our cruise and can't afford to put money into going to WW meetings. But I need support from somewhere.

So any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
DJ

You will find so much encouragement and inspiration on these boards. It helped me so much and when I didn't find the time to read and check-in, I let myself go. Now, I am truly starting over as well. I have approx. 70 pounds that I am going to lose. Notice I didn't say I want to, because I AM going to do this. I am also going to keep it off this time. Losing and gaining made me realize that once I am at a comfortable spot, it doesn't mean that I can go back to my old way of thinking and eating.

I suggest you take it one day at a time. WW is a great program and that is how I lost my weight before along with this board and my WISH friends. You have started it off by making the decision that this is what you are going to do. Come on in and post and get to know everyone and let us get to know you.

Getting started here is easy. I just started by reading the WISH boards for a bit and then I decided it was for me and added my name to the Take the WISH challenge thread. You don't have to, it just made it more concrete for me, like a real commitment.

You can contribute by adding to existing threads (exercise, WW, SB, etc) and also they have a journalling feature too. The boards usually have some sort of exercise challenge and/or weight loss challenge. But, mostly, I think it's just chatting with fellow DIS'ers that are doing the same as you...trying to get and then stay healthy.

I hope that helps... I'm really new to this too, so i'm sure there is more that I don't know about yet either... :-)

You can do this and people here can keep you motivated on your journey too!

Welcome!

Thanks for the replies. I found the Weight Watchers thread and joined that. I am going to follow that plan (I'm a lifetime member, so I know that plan best).

I hope I stay with it, it helps have support. I am so glad this board was started!

Hi DJ,

Welcome to WISH! WISH is the best support group ever and it will make loosing the weight so much easier.

I too am a WW lifetime member so if you need any help let me know. Last year starting in June, I got down to goal. I stopped exercising and slowly but surely I put about 20 pounds on. They came so quickly and I kept thinking I can get this back off. Well if I would have stopped at 10 it would have been easier. But that's ok, I'm on my way back now. Maybe it was a learning experience to wake me up and say you must be vigilant for life.

Again, welcome and jump right in!

Welcome to WISH, DJ! This is the most wonderful place for support, information, and encouragement! You've already made the biggest step in deciding to make healthy changes to your life, and we're here to help you stick with it!

I would suggest that you get your starting weight and also your starting measurements -- sometimes the scale doesn't budge, but you lose inches, which, really, is even nicer!

Have fun with it! Everyone's ready to cheer you on!

Welcome DJ! I can't really add anything to the wonderful info that's already been given to you so I'm just going to WISH you all the best in reaching your goals! We're all here to help you out any way that we can. :flower1:

Princess Michelle, that's my DD! How cute! I see you are going on the Disney Cruise this spring, you will love it. When you board, they take a picture of the whole family. When I saw ours on the cruise last week I just couldn't buy it! And I really wanted a family picture. We plan to go back on another cruise in March 2006 (15 months away) and I REALLY want to look good in that family picture.

LOL, too funny that your DD is Princess Michelle too!

My best friend and I were supposed to cruise at the end of November but had to reschedule. I'm really glad in a way because I didn't get off anywhere near the amount of weight I was hoping to! I'm praying that if I stay dedicated completely I'll be able to take off about 40 more before we leave.

Here's hoping that you and I both get to have awesome cruise photos! :cool1:
