Tuesday, July 27 (9:00pm show) [No Spoilers!]

1) Front Rail (red Wet Zone, dead center)
2) FastPass
3) Red section
4) For the 9:00pm show, there were 3 lines formed next to the red buoy pointy-thingie. (See photos below.)
5) 99.999 % dry (it wasn't windy)
6) The view was excellent!

Brief summary:
We got red FPs for the 9:00 WOC at 10:14am. We got in line at the WOC viewing area at 6:52pm, and we were at the front rail in the red Wet Zone at around 7:34pm.

We really enjoyed the show! :wizard:

Here are some details.

To get WOC FPs, we got in line near the GRR FP machines at 9:48am. We waited in line for 26 minutes, and we got red FPs at 10:14am.

On Tuesday, July 27, they set up three lines (red, yellow, & blue) next to the red tower.

Here are the three lines. You can see the colored flags.

Here's a photo that was taken while we were waiting in line:

100727202.jpg

The FP said to return between 7:30 & 8:30pm, but there were already many guests in line at 7:00pm.

The red line started to move at 7:31pm, and it was pretty orderly as we walked to the right side of the viewing area (we walked from the red buoy toward the general direction of the Golden Zephyr).

If you want to go to the red Wet Zone, then you really have to get over to the far right as you enter the viewing area. We had to backtrack a little bit.

We arrived at the "dead center" red Wet Zone spot around 7:33pm; there were only four other people in the area. We got the zone!

Here's our view:

Here's the view from the center of the yellow Wet Zone (taken after the show). This spot looks just as good as the "dead center" red Wet Zone spot.

100727285.jpg

Here's the view from the far left side of the yellow Wet Zone (also taken after the show). This view isn't as good -- you can see that the pole for the lights/speakers gets in the way.

100727286.jpg

IMO any spot that's between the center of the yellow Wet Zone and the red "dead center" Wet Zone is excellent!

It was not windy, so we stayed dry.

I have also watched WOC from the front rail in preferred, and at the spot that's in front of the VIP section. I liked the view from this spot the best.

IMO with Preferred Dining you don't have to spend "DL time" getting FPs (which is good). But if you want to stand at a railing, then the Preferred Dining doesn't save you time waiting before the show. If you want a front rail in the preferred dining section, you probably should get in line between 6:45 and 7:00pm, and if you want a front rail in the red Wet Zone ("dead center") then you also should get in line between 6:45 and 7:00pm. IMO the view from the "dead center" red Wet Zone was better than the view from the front rail in preferred dining.

Hope this helps. :earsboy:

That was perfect! Exactly what I wanted to know!!! Thank you very much for taking the time to detail the information from all three spots. :worship: I'm definitely going to go with the picnic fastpass information based on this information. It's what I was leaning towards, but was still torn between Preferred and the wet zone viewing areas.

Agree with the above poster on the premium dining. We were 'in the area' about 6:45. Even though castmembers told us to come back at 8, we hung around. Someone finally told us to line up by a large tree. We ended up being the first family let in when they let us in about 7:35.

1) Where you saw the show from

Preferred dining area, front & center at the railing

2) Whether it was a fastpass, picnic or preferred dining area

Preferred dining

3) What color your section was the night you saw the show (and the other sections if you know)

No color posted. Sign just said premium dining. We ended up being Green when they did the pre-show. I was told the premium dining area does not have an assigned color.

4) Where you lined up for your section

Not officially. They had castmembers with flags for the other colors. When I asked what line we should be in we were directed to the tree.

5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry

Barely misted. To me it added so much to the experience. I don't think the people below us in the wet zone got soaked that night either.

6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again?

View was perfect and definitely yes. I would do the dining package again in a heartbeat. The meal was pretty good at Ariels and even with waiting a bit to be let into the area, it was fine. Very glad we didn't listen to the CM's and "come back at 8". By that time, the railing spots were taken and shorter people and children may have had a hard time finding a spot where they could see well.

We saw the show from the Preferred Dining Handicapped Section. It was kind of a bummer because we paid $40pp for Ariels and all around us were people who had purchased the picnic dinners, so I didn't feel so preferred. As soon as the show started someone in the Blue or Yellow area hoisted their kid up on their shoulders.

This is what I saw through most of the show:

IMG_3861.jpg

Because of the crowds we could only see the top 2/3 of the water projections.

Here is my question, we have the opportunity to view the show from the VIP area. My partner is in a wheelchair and can not stand. Am I correct that the VIP area is the roped off area to the left of all the arrows in this picture and that there are no stairs to get to said area? For anyone who knows, please enlighten me, we would really like to have a good view of the show since last time it kinda sucked!

1) Where you saw the show from

Yellow-we were right behind the blue circular area, we were on the steps...great spot, I was a little worried about the giant light bulbs in the pier area, but from our angle they weren't a problem

2) Whether it was a fastpass, picnic or preferred dining area

Fastpass...stood in line for 46 minutes beginning at 10:30am to get a FP and ended up with a 10:15 show in the yellow section. Husband and daughter did single rider on GRR while I waited

3) What color your section was the night you saw the show (and the other sections if you know) yellow

4) Where you lined up for your section

We lined up at GRR (it said to on FP) at 9pm and waited until they brought us in at 9:45. Our passes were checked twice by CM's

5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry

We were misted

6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again?

View was great, we were right in the middle center line behind blue dining package/picnic people (that area was not even close to being full, the bridge was packed though). We would watch it there again. We learned that you really have to stand your ground when you get your spot because people will come and stand right in front of you and your kids and not care of even think twice, we had a grown man do this after the show started, he came and stood right in front of our 9 year old, my husband alerted the guy to his mistake and the guy left. There was a bit of other drama when a family came and stood right in front of a grandmother and her grandkids, grandma wasn't having it and the family ended up moving out of her way.

On July 28

1) Where you saw the show from

Front section at railing near water of green preferred viewing

Green

4) Where you lined up for your section

Near the palm trees next to the red tower at the bridge entrance

5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry

Little wet

6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again?

View was excellent. I would watch there again

On July 30

1) Where you saw the show from

Yellow section second from back near the center

We were in the dining area right behind you on the railing to the left of center. We probably saw you & didn't realize we were having a DIS sighting!!

By the way....the above pic has 2 of my sons in it....we were being led to a different holding area. Tall guy with yellowish shirt on & the little guy behind him in blue are 2 of the 10 in our party!!

Awesome view & awesome show!!

I thought the view was excellent from the front rail in the red Wet Zone. I wrote about it post #41.

From what I saw, the front rail in the yellow Wet Zone also looks to be excellent.

The WOC picnics come with blue FPs or yellow FPs. If you get the blue FPs, then it appears that the view from the front rail in the blue Wet Zone is a bit off to the side. IMO the view from the front rail in the Preferred Dining section is better than the view from the blue Wet Zone.

I would love to get Red FPs and do the wet zone rail like you did, but how can you get red? If you show up at opening you get blue. And then after park opening the FP line gets insanely long. How long did you wait and how did you manage to get red - did you time it with DL 1951's timing chart?

With picnic FPs you get blue or yellow - with yellow wet zone better than blue. When I think about trying to get red it makes my head hurt with the long morning wait and uncertainty of what color you will get. At least with the preferred area you know what section you will be in - even if you are not on the front rail.

Thoughts? :)

As I stated a few posts ago, we were in the dining section on the rail, left of center. In my trip report I have tons of pics from the show & you can see our view point. The only people in front of us were in the lower tier "Wet Zone". Awesome seats (or should I say....standing) for an awesome show!!

Pics of our view & the show! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2376961&page=61 Starts Post #906

I waited 25 minutes to get Red FPs (for the 9:00pm WOC, July 27). I got in line at 9:50am, and got Red FPs at 10:15am.

Disneyland_1951’s wait-times (in post #28) were helpful. :thumbsup2

And getting Red FPs also took a good deal of luck. :tinker:

IMO the front rail spots in the Red Wet Zone and the Yellow Wet Zone both offer excellent views. If you want a front rail spot in the center Wet Zone area you don’t have to limit yourself to only getting Red FPs -- Yellow FPs would also be good. I’m referring to the spots in the center Wet Zone area where the red Wet Zone and the Yellow Wet Zone meet. (maps)

(Full Disclosure: I haven’t watched the show from the front rail in the Yellow Wet Zone, but I posted some photos of the view at the bottom of post #41.)

At least with the preferred area you know what section you will be in - even if you are not on the front rail.
True, although that guarantee costs $116 (Ariel's) for a typical family of four. :earsboy:

We had the preferred dining section. We were up at the front rail. If you are coming down the stairs we were towards the left side of the rail with a few other people next to us. We had a really good view I would say dead center or as close to dead center as you can get. We could all see perfect and really enjoyed the show. The food at Ariel's Grotto was also very good we had a wonderful experience we were a group of 8 (2 families) we held the babies ages 1 and 2 and our kids ages 5 and 6 could see great right at the rail their heads went just above it :) We did get a bit wet but nothing major if I did it all over again I would do the exact same spot.

1) Where you saw the show from
Bridge

2) Whether it was a fastpass, picnic or preferred dining area
Picnic

3) What color your section was the night you saw the show (and the other sections if you know)
Blue on Aug 3, 2010

4) Where you lined up for your section
There was not really a line, just a general waiting area. At 7:30 or so, they blocked off an area in front of the blue fence across from the viewing area, then at 7:45 (approx) they started letting people in from several entryways.

5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry
Dry.

6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again?
View was good, I stood next to one of the posts on the bridge so I had a place to set my camcorder down and enjoy the show. Yes, I would watch from here again, although if I watched several times, I may try it from different places to get first had experience.

I had the blue section on Saturday and found it to be WONDERFUL. I also did the dining package with Ariel's Grotto and had a similar view to the one posted on the first page. Both were great.

Just got back from our trip! This time it was my husband, middle son and I. We ordered the picnics online ahead of time. I picked them up around 6:15 pm and got blue fastpasses.

We ate our picnics in the area by the red flowers and kept our eyes open for any sign of lines forming so we wouldn't miss that. We'd cased out a couple of spots (Disneyland1951's being our first choice). After talking to a CM, however, we opted for a different option, just past the handicapped area by the green arches (to the right of them as you face the water).

First off, I need to say right here that our line experience on August 11 was totally different than the one posted here with the different colored sections. They pretty much avoided ALL line-forming by not doing anything at all until close to 7:00. Even then, no one could quite tell what they were doing, so no one could line up. Around 7:30ish, they put up some purple barriers and instructed people milling about to get behind those (rope drop style). At 7:45, they "V'ed" out the barriers (sort of rounding up the mob like cattle, actually) and then let us in. You were instructed which area to go to from there, depending on your color. Blue had two choices: Go down the steps into the lower tiers or go to the right a bit and end up in the upper tier. You could also proceed to the bridge from the first choice area.

We headed toward the stairs and went straight to the arches spot and were promptly told that at the 9:00 show that was preferred viewing. ARRRGGH! The spot that Disneyland1951 recommended was gone by then and very difficult to get to from where we were, so we decided to head for the railing spots. We were able to hustle over to the second tier about halfway up the railing just behind a couple of women on a blanket. Once we all stood up, we were able to nab a railing spot (the women took up less space standing than they did sitting spread out on their blanket). I thought our view was pretty good, although we had a big black lightpost in the middle. That really didn't bother me though. We were pretty well centered, could see all the movies clearly and didn't have anyone blocking our view. I was disappointed that we couldn't see any of the special effects on the globe lights from there, however. I think you'd have to stand farther up for that.

As we came out, we saw the lines that had formed for the next show. They were MASSIVE!!! My sister had gone the week before and ended up in the 11:15 show and said the waiting experience was really miserable. I can see why! I don't think I'd brave one of the later shows after seeing that!

The picnic dinners, by the way, are a very good deal compared to the usual Disney prices. You get a small main course, two sides, a dessert, a soda or a bottled water AND a nice, resusable shopping bag for each meal ordered. For $14.99, that's quite a value! We had the salmon, the Asian wrap and the antipasto plate. All were fine. We were pretty full still from our lunch at Blue Bayou, so we sort of picked at them. I would do this option again.

This is how it was for us on Aug 3rd too. We asked a CM where we should and he just said come back at 7:45. I asked if there was somewhere we should wait and he just said come back. Around 7:20 or so we had to leave the area between the blue wall and the veiwing area to go to those barriers discribed above.

By this time there was already a crowd there so we got behind them, about 6 layers of people back but on the right hand side. We ended up being only the second family to enter the preferred dining area and went straight to the front rail. The view was great but we had to duck to avoid getting bonked by the Mike puppet! :rotfl: We got a little dampish mist, but no need for a poncho.

Our dining experience at Ariel's was wonderful! We (me, DH, and two DS17s) loved it! We sat outside at 5pm and had a relaxing, nice meal. My boys were impressed, and that's saying something if you can impress teenage boys.

I would love to do this again, but due to the expense might not. It was worth it for a first viewing. I would either do this or picnic next time. I would not waiting in a long FP line first thing in the morning with the picnic option available.

ok, so there's been ALOT of confusion on where everyone has been seeing the woc show eg what color their section was, was that a wet or not wet area, how the view was, could you see all the projections, where did you line up for each colored section,...you get the picture.

and since apparently each section changes colors each night........ well thats just made all the planning waaaaaaaaay more difficult. below is a pic from mouseplanet of the viewing area so feel free to draw on it and describe:

1) Where you saw the show from
2) Whether it was a fastpass, picnic or preferred dining area
3) What color your section was the night you saw the show (and the other sections if you know)
4) Where you lined up for your section
5) Whether you got soaked, a little wet or stayed dry
6) How the view was, would you watch it from there again?

hopefully all the helpful info that everyone posts up makes planning for the show a little easier :)

Ok, first a correction: They CAN change the colors of the sections each night; however, they have not been doing so, because it would cause all sorts of logistical problems. (The colors do vary slightly for the third show, because there are no dining/picnic packages for it).

Just so everyone knows, the order of the colors are as follows (working from the bridge into Paradise Pier over towards Jumpin' Jelly Fish):
First Two Shows:
Orange - On the Bridge
Blue
Yellow - Preferred Dining (Ariels Grotto/Wine Country Trattoria)
Yellow & Picnic Lunches
Green
Red

Third Show:
Red - On the Bridge
Blue
Orange
Green
Remainder of Red

I have watched the show from:
Blue - Wheel Chair Seating - Decent seating, would be really good if you go down to the wet section.
Yellow - Preferred - Really good viewing, but not good for video taping.
Yellow - Picnic/Regular (both are the same area) - Wet section - good viewing and good video taping if you are to the right of the light tower.
Yellow - Picnic/Regular (both are the same area) - Wheel Chair Seating directly behind the Red Section - Really good if the people in front of you stay sitting, otherwise you need to stand during the show (kind of a problem with those in wheel chairs)

I have not been soaked in any of the sections yet, even the Wet area, but I have gotten lightly wet to somewhat wet in every section that I have been in.

I would watch it from any of the sections that I have been in; however, if I am needing to use the benches, I will use them while waiting, but stand during the show. (so make sure that there are no benches behind you if you are in the situation that you can't stand while waiting for the show as I am most of the time.

Every section has a wet zone (except Orange for the first two shows).

Please note that for the first show if you have a GAC or Wheel Chair, you now line up in a different area, just ask a CM. This is being done to avoid injuring either the guests needing assistance or other guests because they were trampling people that were walking slower.

I would also like to note that the Picnic lunch view offers just as good of a view (if not better in some cases) as the preferred dining view, just more people in your section. I think that this combined with the fact that you get a reusable bag and a drink with each meal makes it one of the best meal values in the resort.

Also, if you do not all get the same color FP, first ask the CM helping you get FPs if they have any that they can trade. If that does not work, try asking the CM when you go to line up if you can all go to the same section, they usually allow for a certain amount of that happening.

In addition, I would say the preferred order of viewing is:
First Two Shows:
Yellow (Preferred/Picnic/General)
Blue
Green
Red
Orange

Third Show:
Yellow
Orange
Blue
Green
Red

Also, please note that for the first show everyone crowds in at the viewing area, they do not have different areas to line up in. (As I stated above the exception is for those with GACs/Wheel Chairs/Canes/etc.)

If you want a front rail spot in the center Wet Zone area you don’t have to limit yourself to only getting Red FPs
This is not quite true, the Blue & Green sections also get front center (or close to it), as does the Orange section for the third show.
