Lot of threads here concerning sending their children on school sponsored trips. Where did you go when you were in school?:)

Train trip from one town to another in 3rd grade
Henry Ford Museum near Detroit in 5th grade
Chicago twice in HS (Soph and Jr year). I was in the International Club.
New Orleans for our Senior Trip.

That was it.

Senior year - Grad Nite at WDW

Senior year - 4 day 3 night cruise to Nassau for Senior Trip.

HS was in Florida so this involved bus transportation for both.

Other than that, all field trips were one day and we went on school buses.

DD has had much more elaborate trips. She goes to the same schools I went to (with the exception of elementary school).

In 4th and 5th grade, she went on an overnight trip. Fourth grade to St. Augustine and Orlando, 5th grade to Tampa/St. Pete. She was in the gifted class and her teacher did this for 5 years.

In middle school, they took day trips on chartered buses to Epcot and Disney/MGM Studios. In 8th grade, there was a trip that was organized through the school, but not sponsored by the school system, to Washington, D.C. They flew there over Memorial Day weekend for a 4 day, 3 night trip. The trip was run by a professional tour service. They went everywhere and were scheduled from 7 a.m until 11 p.m. each day. The trip was $1,200 and included all meals, tips, admission to attractions, the Potomac River Cruise, charter bus & driver and hotel accomodations in Baltimore.

No trips in high school until she's a senior except for athletic events.

For reference, I lived in Bellingham, WA which is about 40 miles from the Canadian Border.

The biggest one was each of the 3 middle schools sent 15 8th graders on a science trip to San Francisco, and I got to go. It was for 4 days, and we went to Stanford, Stanford Linear Accelerator, NASA Ames Research Center, the California Academy of Sciences and some fun stuff too like Pier 39, Great America, and a stop at the Hard Rock Cafe gift shop (it was 1989).

In 1986, everyone in the elementary school, except Kindergarten went to Expo 86 which was being held in Vancouver. They gave us all the same bright yellow/orange shirt with our school name and mascot. It looked like an invasion. We had one chaperon per group of 3. My Mom was the chaperon for my group. We were the only ones to visit the Rames II exhibit, and it was wonderful!

In first grade, we went to an animal park in British Columbia.

Most of the other trips were to like to the local museum, a local dairy farm, local parks, the school district owns a "Conservation Site" and you visit it in 3rd grade, and in 6th grade. In 6th grade we got to spend the night.

HS-
(1) Went to DC every year...on the train...and we left behind anyone who didn't show up when it was time to go (wow--times have changed).

(2) Senior Trip- Kings Dominion

Junior High-
8th Grade Trip- Montreal

Elementary-

Greek Restaurant
Philadelphia (to another science museum)

let's see-

in elementary-local dairy, sutter's fort, san francisco zoo, other places in sacramento, exploritorium, golden gate park, lawrence hall of science-don't remember much else.

in jr. high-to san francisco for some awsome productions at the american conservatory theatre, exploritorium, planetarium, marriotts great america, the mall 3 counties away that had an ice skating rink several times, disneyland for a few days (by grayhound bus:scared: ).

in high school-to san francisco for (get this) 'star wars' (we talked the teacher into it and he somehow got it past administration), san francisco for the broadway touring cast of 'the wiz' (stephanie mills was fantastic), a week long choir tour through california (and again to disneyland). could have done the trip to france-did'nt want to (and glad i did'nt, big scandle over drunk and disorderly chaperones:sad2: ), could have done hawaii-no desire to, opted out of doing another choir tour, and avoided grad nite at disneyland like the plague.

my kids have gone on allot more field trips than i did-but none have involved any type of cost more than $5 on our part, their schools have not been into doing trips that could exclude some based on cost. despite that they've had at least one 5 day field trip each year.

Besides the normal field trips kids take in school such as to pumpkin farms and the zoo, some of the places we went to include
Discovery World (Milwaukee)
Milwaukee Modern Art Museum
Milwaukee Symphony (and various plays)
a lighthouse on the shore of Lake Michigan (Milwaukee)
the State Capitol building in Madison
Chicago Planetarium
Museum of Science and Industry (Chicago)
Shedd Aquarium (Chicago)
National Train Museum (Green Bay)
Lambeau Field (the year the Packers won Super Bowl XXXI)
Medieval Times--Schaumburg, IL (once in grade school, once in high school)
Jelly Belly factory (Pleasant Prairie, WI)

Our 8th grade trip was to St. Louis, Missouri, but I didn't go.

Edit...I forgot to add the American Players Theatre in Spring Green, WI, to see a production
of The Taming of the Shrew for AP English Lit.

Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Hungary in High School.

When I was in elementary school it was the zoo, museums etc.

In secondary school we went to a lot of plays in London, France, Germany, Austria, lots of places in the UK, depending on which courses you took. If you were on a sports team you got to go somewhere really fun every year - my friend went to Australia, South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Hawaii...

Some of the places we went would cause major outrage these days!

Kennywood (local amusement park) numerous times
Sea World Ohio
Carnegie Museum (Pittsburgh)
Washington DC
Meadowlands (I kid you not -- a horse racetrack!!! :scared1: in 4th grade!)
Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater
Fort Necessity (French & Indian war site)
Pittsburgh Zoo
Montreal & Quebec

Well various places in primary school, but at high school i went to:

Year 8- Holland
Year 9- London to see Grease
- Canada - Niagara Falls and Toronto
Year 10- Holland
- Vermont, USA Skiing

This is going back in time:

Elementary school:
1-3 grade: Garden State Arts Center for plays
Grade 4: Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island (awesome trip!)
Grade 5: Museum of Natural History (NYC) (also awesome)
Grade 5: Also Great Adventure (but not a whole class, just Student Council)
Grade 6: Philadelphia Liberty Bell
Grade 7: (Again something in Philadelphia but I can't remember where!)

High school trips were really only allowed if you were going to Spain or Italy for language class, skiing with the ski club, and our senior class trip to the Poconos for skiing.

As cheerleaders we weren't allowed to take any trips.

middle school--

Greenkill, NY (worst place ever for a field trip)

High School-
took a class called Cities, so Manhattan once a week
Nicaragua every year with a club to do humanitarian work. Best experience of my entire life. I can't even begin to say enough good things about it.

5. USS Intrepid

6. The Cloisters

7. Mets game

ETA: Although I didn't go with my school, when I was 15 I went on a missions trip with kids in my church to Mexico and at 16 I went to Antigua on a missions trip.

Ft. McHenry in Baltimore
Museums in Washington, D.C.
Baltimore Zoo

Senior class trip was to WDW (just MK at that time) and Daytona Beach, FL.

We just went on local trips in elementary school.

In middle school I played cello in the orchestra. Our end of the year trips were:

7th grade - Chartered bus to Gatlinburg, TN (from Jacksonville, FL) and Atlanta, GA. We went to Silver Dollar City and Six Flags Over GA. The bus seats converted to flat sleeping areas so we traveled at night.

8th grade - Day trip to Magic Kingdom.

9th grade - Day trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa.

There was also a 7th grade Talented/Gifted trip to a water park.

My mom said there is a band trip to New Orleans (from Kansas) in January for $1500. My sister is a freshman in high school, and the school wanted most of that paid for over the summer! Luckily my mom said NO WAY because now they've been told my sister doesn't play well enough to march with the band!:rotfl:

Numerous field trips, can't even remember everywhere. Living in TN, we hit a LOT of Civil War sights. As for longer trips...

6th grade...day trip to NASA Space Center in Huntsville
7th grade...Williamsburg, VA
8th grade...Washington, DC

The year my brother was in 8th (3 yrs after me) the school sent them to DISNEY instead of DC. SO NOT FAIR!!! :rotfl:

k-8 I went to a variety of local places- like the LI planetarium. We did go to Rye playland and Great Adventure too. (catholic school)

In High school- I went to Europe twice.
First trip Italy(Milan, Venice, Florence and Rome- saw the Pope:banana: )
Second trip Italy again(never too much Pope) France and Switzerland!

Those were both GREAT trips. I still remember the first trip getting off the plane and seeing the Italian Police with machine guns and thinking WOW! So this is Europe!:rotfl2:

Oh wait I remember one in grade school in second grade- we went to a convent where they made Eucharist wafers.- good times good times......

Mostly museum's in elementary school. In High School I went to Washington, D.C. twice on choir trips. Sadly no senior trip for me, I don't think our school believed in them.
