Where did you go back to school shopping for supplies? (pencils, etc)

My son starts next week and we have not done his back to school shopping yet. We just got the supply list 2 weeks ago. I would like to goto one store and do all (or most) of the shopping there. There is a big walmart about 1/2 hour away that I am thinking of going to. Any advice on other stores to goto? I am wondering where everyone else went and if you went to more than 1 store?

thanks, J.

I always order online from Staples - it's free S&H on orders over $50 & it ships immediately.

95% of our items came from Staples. Just about everything has been on sale over the past month, many items for a penny.

I would not use them for 1 stop shopping though.

I did the same thing, but that takes planning. Staples starts their weekly sales early to mid-July so the Sunday morning run to Staples all summer long is just part of the process. We just buy the really good penny and quarter deals, sometimes the 50 cent or dollar deals if it's something I know we need.

I don't even look at the school checklist until after back to school night. I find that half the items are a county-wide general requirement. For instance, French said it required a French to English dictionary. When I asked the teacher what she recommended she said don't get one! They're not helpful and gave me a website to use instead. That saved me $15!

When we're on the last week, I check the list one last time and usually get the last few items we don't have at WalMart or Target. This time that was just the 3- and 5-subject notebooks.

My hall closet. I went overboard last year. In fact, I still have crayons, colored pencils, and some folders in my hall closet. I think I'm officially out of glue sticks though. :lmao: I still had the scissors, ruler and a calculator from last year's desk clean-out.

No really the only things I had to buy were some disinfecting wipes and a box of Kleenex. I just grabbed them at the grocery store. In my experience Target and WalMart are really picked over by the end of August. I think you'll have better luck at the office supply stores.

i also had lots of extra's i bought last summer at Staples penny sales.

i had to only stock up on composition notebooks which were always sold out when i went to the stores - i paid $1 for a few i found at the grocery store than my friend found them instock at walmart for .40c so i got 10 of them.

i suggest u either go to Walmart or Target for 1 stop shopping!

Well we went to staples and spent about $70 on everything for my son. It seams rather expensive to me, but at least it is done. I may look at Walmart and Target and see if I can get some of the more expensive stuff cheaper and then return some stuff to Staples.

Jessica.

Most everything at Target, a lot of stuff was price reduced & I have a Target debit card so the savings were pretty good. :thumbsup2

The only thing we didn't buy there was my DS8 backpack. He wanted one from a specific brand & we had a 20% off coupon for Tilly's.

I bought my 2 boys their supplies through the PTA. Paid $90 for both kids, but then I can say 'NO' to any future fundraisers (magazines, cookie dought, etc) since I already did one. Saves me tons of time and hassle finding the particulars my kids need since it all comes in the kit. I do buy sale items to stock up on at home like pencils, paper, crayons, etc. as I find them.
