Where Did my Princess Go?

I asked DD5 last night which princess dress she wanted to wear for our trip this fall and she said "I'm too old to be a princess". How can that be? When we went two years ago (she was 3 1/2) Tinkerbell brought her a Belle dress, we went to BBB and then to the castle for lunch. She had a great time and loved wearing her dress around the park with all the CM's asking her if she was Belle. Now she loves HSM and Hannah Montana and the princesses have been left in the dust.:sad2: I know she will still want to do the BBB. Does anyone have any suggestions for a dress or special outfit for a little girl who thinks she is too big to be a princess? What age did your girl grow out of it? At least I have another DD 9mo. so we'll have another princess phase in a year or two.princess: :yay:

My DD is also 5 and when we were talking about planning for our upcoming trip she mentioned not wanting to bring a princess dress. We are doing the BBB and lunch at the castle, so I'm thinking if she still doesn't want to pick out a dress, I may just pack one of her faves from home and bring it out on the day we do the BBB/castle.
I know what you mean, for the last 2 trips, she wore her dress almost every day and was so excited to see all of the princesses! She hasn't really mentioned them at all this time, my little girl can't be growning up already:sad1:

I don't have any advice, just sympathy! My DD is 8. We're hoping there will be a P & PP when we go to WDW, so I asked her which princess she would like to be. She said that she didn't want to be a princess, she wanted to be a pirate. She did wear her Cinderella dress to CRT last year, and she's been just about every Disney princess for Halloween over the years, but I was still sad to hear her say that she didn't want to be a princess. I knew it was coming, but I still wasn't ready for it - she's my only girl.

hi
my dd did the BBB at age 8 for her birthday infact, (i think its the last year we could of got away with it with her), such a shame as my other 3 are boys.

now shed rather wear black than pink.:confused3

There was another thread a couple of weeks ago talking about what makes you cry. I posted on there that what makes me cry is every time I hold my DD5 (who turns six on our trip - which we leave for in about 4 hours) while watching wishes and I wonder how long it will be before she doesn't want me to hold her anymore. Well - on this trip, she's still into princesses and has no idea who Hannah Montana is, so I'll soak up every minute of her strutting around and batting her eyelashes as Snow White and Jasmine. I know they have to grow up. I want her to grow up. I just don't want it to happen now :(

Wow, 5 is pretty young for that. My DD13princess: has never lost her love for pink, purple, or princesses (and my DD3princess: will probally be heading the same way)!

Does she consider Jasmine a princess since she doesn't have a big dress like all of the others? Does she like Alice in Wonderland?

I can't imagine my DD5 not loving the princessess. This is our first trip to DW and she is just estatic to meet them all. Don't get me wrong, she also loves Hannah and HSM, but she is a die hard princess fan as well. I hadn't really thought much about her outgrowing it soon. I am so glad we get to do DW together at this age where everything is still so magical.

She might actually change her tune a little when she gets there. My DD 6 is starting to play with princess stuff a little less. We don't do Hannah, but she loves HSM. I was a bit worried when we left because we had the castle planned. Once we got to Disney, she was once again all giddy when meeting the princesses. She even stood in a huge line to meet Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty with Prince Charming and Prince Phillip despite the fact that we had already seen the princesses.

Changing her mind is a little what I'm worried about. I'd like to buy a dress before hand, but I'll probably end up shelling out $100 at the park because she thought she was too old. What can you do? :confused3

If you think that's a possibility, buy one before you leave, and put it at the bottom of the suitcase. If she doesn't end up mentioning that she wants to be a princess, you can return it when you get home. If she decides she wants to do it, then you have something to surprise her with!

I think Alice in Wonderland or maybe Jessie from Toy Story or something like that would be a good idea if she wants to dress up, too.

Too old to be a princess at 5 1/2  Maybe you could get her a HSM cheerleading outfit that could be cute. Not as cute as a princess but I guess you take what you can get. My dd just turned 5 in November and although she loves HSM and Hannah Montana she still loves dressing in her princess gowns I hope for another 2 years at least. A girl can dream LOL. I would take a dress with you and hope that when you get there the disney magic hits her and she turns back into her princess self and if not you can always sell it on Ebay.

OMG! Amy (younger DD) was very girly when younger, our first MNSSHP she was Snow White in '04 (age 7). Two years later, here's her costume:

Last year, with input from her Dad, she was a zombie doctor complete with cryptkeeper mask!
Who knows what this year will bring.

Rcraw - that costume cracks me up! Love it.

DD6 still loves princesses -- and prince charming. On her 7th b'day I'm planning for BBB and dressing up before dinner at 1900 Park Faire-- can't imagine not wanting to dress up. I probably would cry that day too!!

What about getting your daughter a Gabriella or Sharpay dress??? My daughter still likes princesses, but LOVES HSM, and wears her Gabriella dress daily. They could do her hair very cute to go with these dresses as well.:cheer2:

I am right there with you Beehn. My daughter will be 5 next week and she can not get enough of HSM. We too went to WDW when she was 31/2 and she loved being dressed up but I think for our up coming trip in Sept we may not be bring any dresses. What about Arial? My DD was Arial for Halloween and which was very cute (she wanted to be someone from HSM but I thought we had at least one more as a princess). I was cleaning out her closet this past weekend and asked if we could get rid of some of her dresses (which probably doesn’t fit her but I also wanted to see what she would say). She did say it was okay to get rid of the Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella dress but the Arial one she said no too. Its sad to see them grow up...

I feel better knowing I'm not alone! Mothers of daughters trying to grow up UNITE - :rotfl:
My daughter will turn 7 right before our next trip to Disney in May. I asked her before Christmas which princess she wanted to dress as so maybe I could get it as a gift, and she said none. I keep asking her, beggin her, pleading with her!!!! Whatever will work - sad that I think it's more for me than her! I think we've settled on Ariel (and I can't find a NICE Ariel costume anywhere - any ideas?) and I know that once she puts it on and sees the princesses in the park, she'll be my "little" girl again and fall in love with them all over again!

She would love a Gabriella dress. I didn't know there was such a thing, but of course it's Disney so I should have thought about that. Thanks for the suggestion.

Another thing I just thought of, maybe she thinks she's "too old" for princesses because at school she said something about them and someone thought they were babyish. I remember when my DD13 was in Kindergarten there were all sorts of little fads, chapstick, gingerbread men (chocolate chip cookies were "passe") choker necklaces and butterfly hair clips(remember those?), Britney Spears (2000, I know that seems a little ridiculous now), she payed a little attention to them, some more than others, but overall not much.

Ask your DD what the reason is why she thinks she's outgrown princesses, you never know.
