My DS turned 16 last week, where did the years go?!?!

He also finished his Higher prelims last week [A Level] and tomorrow we are going to an open day at University:scared1:

Because of when his birthday falls he is one of the youngest in his year but he’s very grown up for his age and he has his sights firmly set on what he wants to do career wise.

So tomorrow we are heading to Glasgow to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama so he can do the workshops on offer on their BA Technical and Production Arts course.

Unfortunately DH is working so he can’t come but DS and I will head on up there and see what’s going on.
When DS is in his workshops I’ll head out to the Disney store for some retail therapy:cheer2: grab myself a nice coffee somewhere and watch the world go by for a while !! :coffee:

DS went himself last November to check the Uni out and see if he thought the course/uni would be for him so to speak and he was so excited about the prospect of getting in there so I’m looking forward to listening to all the info on the place, chatting to other parents and staff of the Uni:chat:.

He intends staying at school until his last year, he’s doing 5 Highers this year and wants to hopefully do Advanced Highers next year so he would apply to get in September 2011 but wants as much info as he can get as early as poss as there is an audition as well as the normal application forms. I'll be looking for muchos pixie dust then from my DIS friends :rotfl2:

He is SO into theatre/drama and has been for about 11 years now, however for the past three or four years he is really focused to the technical side of it all and the course strand he is hoping to follow is ‘production’ which breaks down into Management for performance, Stage Technology, Production Lighting and Sound.

I really hope all his dreams come true as he is such a hard worker and a pleasant, dedicated and helpful young man and we are so proud of everything he has achieved up to now but OMG where have all the years gone.............:sad1:

scary isn't it ;) mine are only 11 and 8 but already im shocked at how the time has flown by

I hope it all goes well tomorrow. :)

He sounds a lovely young man, you must be so proud of him... :goodvibes

I so know what you mean about where have the years gone, tho'!! My youngest son is 17 in May, in the L6th at school and he's so mature and grown-up for his age he makes me feel like a baby!!! And in my private moments, I still think of him as the cutest 3 year old... :lovestruc

Hope you have a great day tomorrow and the course is right for your son... :wizard:

I agree he does sound like a lovely young man.:)

I feel they same about the years going so fast with my 8 year old growing up, seems like yesterday she was saying "It is to big of me"

Yes, it's so scary :scared1: it seems like yesterday that I found out I was expecting for the first time and in a couple of months the result will be 18! :rotfl:

I hope you and your son have a lovely day tomorrow ~ he sounds a lovely lad and very mature and focused. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Hope you have a lovely day - and, yes, I know what you mean about the time flying - in a couple of months my 2 eldest will be 16 and 17 - it hardly seems possible.

Hope it all goes well, I cant believe boys will be 18, 16 and 14 this year !

Oh I hear you, the years have just flown by.

Hope you and DS have a lovely day, sounds a well grounded lad :goodvibes

The years do seen to fly past ,
for us we are now saying the same thing about our grandson who is now 4 months old
Your son sounds like he has his head screwed on right and his feet firmily on the ground & one to be proud of :thumbsup2

Sounds like you have a very sensible young man there pity mine isn't like that. No matter what we say our 16 year old is still only interested in 'playing' with his mates on the x box or on his laptop. Says he's finding the 6th form hard but won't do anything about getting help and says we are interferring if we try to talk about it. At the moment I really feel like washing my hands of the whole business and leaving him to it. Only found out last week he's got a girlfriend, he doesn't think its our business and says he's entitled to a private life. I'd give anything to have the terrible 2's back!

He sounds like my brother and he is 22 now. He is a nice lad though and doesn't get into trouble like some young lads so that is the main thing.

It's scary isn't it? I can't believe I'm turning 25 next week. :scared1: :sad1:

How frustrating for you. I'm sure he'll grow out of it. :thumbsup2

Hey all thanks for your replies & kind words :thanks:

DS & I had a great day and he is more than certain now that the RSAMD is the place for him:thumbsup2

We arrived in time for the registration / welcome session this morning and that all went very well. He then headed into the first of three workshops which were spread throughout the day whilst I headed to the cafe area for some much needed caffeine :coffee: where I got chatting to two other mums who had daughters much the same age as my DS. The 'kids' were all looking to apply to different courses but naturally as parents we had muchos chatting to do about our kids, the uni & the world in general :rotfl2:

After the first workshop DS was absolutely buzzing with excitement and I think it was even at this point his mind was made up....that's where I'm applying to!

After a quick lunch we were treated to a short student concert [which was first class] and a Q&A session with lots of different Heads of Dept etc.
..... then .......on the way out of that DS walked right on up to the Head of the Technical Production Course waving me along behind him [I of course skipped along doing as I was told being the ever so obedient mother;)] and had him self a one-on-one Q&A session with the very person who will interview/audition him when the time comes. :lmao:

Mature beyond his years that boy but that was a defining moment in my life...........

Yes, we are very proud of him for all that he has accomplished so far & all that he sets his sights on for the future but that one moment today made me realise my wee boy is now a man!

I was :cloud9::confused3:worship::love::cheer2::sad1: all at the same time, if you know what I mean?!

Now we wait, he is going to finish this year at school and return for his final [6th] year next year, all the while gaining as much experience in technical /theatrical / production / drama / performance as he can alongside sitting his academic qualifications. His application for Sept 2011 start has to be submitted this October for interview/audition selection in Jan-Mar 2011 with hopefully an unconditional offer for the Sept start. Oh the worries

Anyway thanks again everyone :disrocks:no doubt you'll hear much more of this saga in the future as I vent about exam stress and uni application stress

Oh and for those of you that may remember I had hoped for some retail therapy today courtesy of the Disney Store, no chance, I was so busy chatting and enjoying the day at the uni I ran out of time:rotfl:

Ahhhh..I'm glad you had a good day, you must be so proud:)

I totally sympathise with you about the years rushing by and my girls are only six and four! My 4yo starts school in September and I can't believe it, so much so that I have cut her mornings at pre-school from next week as I feel my time with her is running out and there is still so much I want to do before she is in the school system.

Glad everything went well. :goodvibes

I commented on this exact subject to my mom, saying that I couldn't believe my eldest goes to secondary school next year. She said, 'How do you think I feel - my first-born is 40 this year!' :rolleyes1

That's fab news!!! I'm so pleased for him - and you... :goodvibes

What a dude!!! :lmao: He really sounds a lot like my DS - all focused and keen. Samuel's just come top in a Chemistry Olympiad (or something like that  ) and confessed he'd tried hard as he specifically knew Uni selection boards looked favourably at the results!!! Where do our kids get all this sense from??? In my case, certainly not from me!!!

I was :cloud9::confused3:worship::love::cheer2::sad1: all at the same time, if you know what I mean?!
::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes:: Oh 100% yes!!!

Anyway thanks again everyone :disrocks:no doubt you'll hear much more of this saga in the future as I vent about exam stress and uni application stress
Look forward to hearing all about it...

That's a cool idea, have you lots of fun things planned before September then?

Glad everything went well. :goodvibes

LOL was just by telling my mum all about yesterday on the phone this morning and she said exactly the same thing as your mum :rotfl:

Glad the day was so successful ~ you have every right to be proud. :goodvibes
Aw thanks
