at a store close to home? I'd like to surprise my DDs at night with the glow-sticks, etc. Has anyone purchased these ahead of time...if so, where did you find them?

I can find them in our $ store sometimes, although it seems to be in the warmer months. I also have ordered them from Orientaltrading.com. The $ store packs usually have necklaces and bracelets in a pack. I will be looking for them for our trip too!

Party-supply stores sell them by the case. They last quite a while as long as you store them in a cool dry place. I paid $20 for a case of 75 3-piece pacs; each piece is a bracelet, and connected, 3 pieces form a necklace.

If you are flying, they will attract the attention of security, as they look odd on the x-ray. I put mine in an outer pocket of my carryon, in an opaque plastic bag, and signaled the TSA officer to please check it without pulling them out of the bag. As the individual packets were still factory-sealed, that wasn't a problem, and DS never found out that they were there.

I just received a shipment from illuminationz.com. I purchased 100 bracelets, assorted colors, for $6 (that's right - 6 cents each), and 50 large glowsticks for about $18. Shipping was $8 - UPS. Everything went smoothly.

I haven't tried the bracelets yet, but the glowsticks retained their glow for about 18 hours. Also, the bracelets can connect to form a necklace, or they included a few special connectors to form flowers.

I'm planning to use these to help my 23 month old twin daughters and 4 y/o daughter be brave on the dark rides. I also hope to pass some out to crying kids (hopefully not mine) in the evenings or in ride lines.

Thanks for your answers...I'll hit the dollar stores and/or Walmart or the party stores this weekend. I checked out Illuminationz.com but I'm afraid the shipping may not make it to me in time.....ten days to Disney!!! Woohoo!!!!

Just a little note for those who buy these -- If you open up a glowstick at say, 6 pm and then child falls asleep at 9 pm -- stick the glowstick in the freezer. It puts the chemical reaction on hold and buys you a little more time. THe next night, bring out the "frozen" glow stick and enjoy the luminescence for a bit longer! (It will look "dead" but once it warms up, it will glow -- my kids love bringing their frozen ones back to life!)

I have ordered these in bulk from all sorts of places -- just make sure you store them carefully. I think the long necklaces are the hardest to store -- they are so easy to break, and once broken, well, who feels like freezing 50 necklaces in their icebox? I usually buy lots of 50 -- I use them as kid's party favors, tie them onto b'day gifts, etc. Kids never seem to tire of these!

So glad i found this thread :) this is the info i've been looking for.

I have bought glow sticks twice off of Ebay.
Both shipments were great, 50 bracelets for around $6.
I still have plenty for our upcoming trips.
I also give them out to other kids we see.

I have bought them in the past from the Dollar Store also, and I think that is a buyer beware situation. We have used them for Disney trips, camping, parties etc. It is usually a 50/50 chance of the glowsticks working.

In future I will stick to Ebay or the party stores. I may give Illuminationz.com a try.

Do you have to bid for them on ebay or do they have a set price? Can you post a link to the site?

I buy a bunch of ebay every year. Just go to www.ebay.com and search for "glow bracelet" to find the cheapest ones. We give them out at Halloween instead of candy.

We took some with us last year to WDW and found it wasn't worth packing them. My kids (1.5 and 3.5 at the time) wanted them to glow ALL the time - not just on the dark rides. They thought they were broken and wanted to take them off. Then when we were on rides, just having a little glowing bracelet really didn't make any difference to them. After one day of this, we never used them again. I definitely won't pack them again.

We used the glow stick on camping trips, for sleepovers, roller-skating rinks, etc. We also took them to Disney but never used them my kids though there wore too many things lit up all the time.
