Where can we leave our extra luggage?

We are planning to take a 3 day cruise in the middle of a 10 day vacation at WDW. And we'll be staying out timeshare resorts, outside of WDW. We are planning on only taking what we need on the ship. And we can't leave our luggage at the timeshare resorts. And it won't fit in the car with all our passengers.

Can we still leave our luggage at a Disney resort while we are going on a Disney cruise?

I don't believe you can leave anything at a resort if you are not booked there. Are you returning to a resort post-cruise?

How much luggage do you have? It might just be worth taking it with you rather than hassle with dropping it somewhere else.

If I'm understanding correctly, you will be staying offsite both before and after your cruise? Then no, you cannot leave your luggage at a Disney resort. You possibly could if you were staying at a Disney resort. I believe it is up to the discretion of bell services at the resort but they usually agree to hold the luggage if you are staying there.

Your options are to take it on the cruise with you or leave it in the car. If your luggage and passengers won't fit in your car, then you need to rent a bigger vehicle. How are you planning to get all your luggage and passengers to your timeshare in the first place if the passengers and luggage won't all fit?

That is correct. We may have a second smaller car, or just Uber. But, we won't take both cars to the cruise - it's $40 per day ($160 total) to park.

I was assuming this was a DCL cruise out of Port Canaveral. The parking rates for passenger cars there are:

  • $60 per parking space for a 3-night cruise
  • $75 per parking space for a 4-night cruise
  • $90 per parking space for a 5-night cruise
  • $105 per parking space for a 6-night cruise
  • $120 per parking space for a 7-night cruise
  • $135 per parking space for a 8-night cruise

You are right! In my head it was $60 per day, rather than $15/day or $60 for the 4 days. Even with the coming parking increase, that would be $64.

That would push us towards getting a second car. Some of the luggage would be food, so I'd still prefer an inside location, if at all possible.

Unless you want to just rent the offsite location the whole time, or if there's some sort of luggage storage at that place, there's really no other option but to bring it.

We are rented the whole time, but we have to move during the cruise time so that doesn't work either. Are there any services that hold bags? I know there are services where you can check in at the airport and they send your bags. Do you know where one of those is near WDW?

We left our excess luggage in the car and rented the car the whole time. The MCO-MCO rental wasn't bad (I think cheaper than 2 one way rentals, including parking at the port)

This seems like a hassle. IMO, I would pack less and do laundry, like PP stated. We do laundry every trip, in our DVC villa (or if we are staying in a regular room while we are swimming at resort) and on the cruise. It really is not a big deal and takes very little time. I understand that you want to bring on minimal luggage for your short cruise but I have not heard of any service that stores luggage. Can your timeshare resort not hold it for you?

Agreed. Take it from someone who has overpacked one too many times -- the cruise ship has laundry rooms and I'm sure the timeshare does too. For all the hassle to try to find a place to leave the luggage, I'd either take less or just take it with you on the ship! You can stack it in the closet or under the bed.

How many bags will you have? We had 9 bags in one stateroom. We cruised 15 days and had a vacation before that. Add in formal attire and accessories (times 4 nights) and you have a lot of luggage. We managed to store it under the bed and in the closit without any issues. I say slap a luggage sticker on it and have the porters deliver it. Then stow it in your room and on the last night, put it out for pickup. Have a porter assist you with your luggage to your transportation. The only thing you will need to be mindful of is alcohol, so drink what you have, and then stop at the store en route to your new place.

To note, there is a current $1 increase that was proposed and approved by the port authority. It should be in effect soon on a 90 day trial basis. So instead of $15 per day for a standard car it will be $16.

It sounds like we have some options to consider. We go to WDW several times a year, and always for 7 or more days, so we always do wash. But, with kids, and all the "stuff" that comes along with us, we still end up with quite a few suitcases. I just don't want to bring it all on the ship. Those rooms look small enough!

Thank you all!

The room may be small, but there is pretty much the entire space of a queen size bed under which to hide luggage. Plus the closets.
