Where can we get (the best) Key Lime Pie?

I LOVE a good key lime pie, ideally one that is graham cracker crust and filling with no meringue topping, and it is hard to come by up in the Pacific Northwest. I saw it on the menus at House of Blues and Wolfgang Puck's at DTD, but is it served anywhere else on property? We are also going to Universal, so places serving it there would work as well.

Of the places that serve this delightful treat, which do you recommend and which should we avoid?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Captain Jacks, seafood place at Downtown Disney near the Winnie the Pooh shop, has it I believe with a raspberry sauce. Goooooood

If you go to the top of the page there are two lines of quick links. Click on <Dining> and it will take you to a page with a search feature near the top. Type in "key lime" and click <ENTER> and it will show you every Disney Restaurant that serves key lime pie, the menu item description, and the price.

Cheshire...you ROCK!

Not only does that search help me in my key lime quest, it is a really nifty feature on the site that I had not found yet. I have read the menus in that section for some places, but the keyword is perfect for when you want to track down a particular item. It's yet another reason to really love these forums. Thank you!

I enjoy the keylime pie at Sunshine Seasons in Epcot. The crust is graham cracker crumbs but if I'm remembering correctly, the top does have dots of meringue but it's not like a huge amount like you would get on a traditional lemon meringue pie. It's a very light dessert. The texture is kind of mousse like, not a custardy type like I generally expect with lemon meringue. I love it.

OK, I'm laughing here because my comment was going to be "no matter what you do, don't get the key lime dessert at Sunshine Seasons." Your reasons for liking it are my reasons for disliking it. :lmao: I'm a traditionalist at heart and like the dense filling, so I was disappointed by the fluffy texture of the key lime filling. Thankfully Disney has a lot of variety so that we can all find things we like!

I had a great piece of Key Lime pie for dessert at Shula's. Of course the steak wasn't too bad either.

By no means am I an "expert" on KLpie, but had a very nice one at Kimono's last June at the Swan?/Dolphin? - (oh heck, the "Swolphin". Beats me! )

If I could post a picture it would be better than my words:
An individual little pie with a graham crust. I remember it being smooth and creamy and not at all like lemon mer. pie (not of fan of the meringue texture or "fluffy" cheesecakes either, but alas I digress ;) ) There was no whipped cream or cool whippy stuff on top of it. It had raspberries (fresh) on top and was as delightful in presentation as it was on the palate. I do wish that I could post you that picture! :sad2:

Sorry that I lurk more than I post, so that my post-count prolly isn't high enough yet...the boards don't "trust" me yet. hehehe.

Good luck with your "scavenger hunt" for KL pies! Enjoy! :goodvibes

I thought the key lime pie at Wolfgang Puck Cafe was delicious!

Your post count is way higher than mine and your comment was perfect to help steer me in the right direction! I am after that traditional key lime pie taste, so these descriptions help quite a bit. My prior experience with key lime was nasty stuff from a box, nastier stuff at a chain diner and utterly amazing pie at a Jamaican restaurant that closed down a few years ago. I used to stop in just for the pie that was almost like a sherbet in consistency with a buttery graham cracker crust.

Thank you all for the feedback! I now know to avoid sunshine seasons (sorry Clanmcculloch) and am leaning toward Shula's after a bit more research. I should have looked there first since we are even staying at the Dolphin, but I saw $40-$80 menu prices and ran away fast.

I adore key lime pie. I would probably strut my stuff on the corner to get some :lmao: I'm a traditionalist with it, it must be dense and creamy and it must be TART, not just limey but borderline SOUR.

I have to agree that I don't like the Sunshine Seasons one, it's like "Jello does keylime...and not so well!" Its a big portion and all but I don't think its great. The strawberry shortcake there however...it's a far better option IMHO :cutie:

Believe it or not, I find the litte prepacked key lime pies in the black round containers to be rather good. I know I had one at CS at OKW, I think somewhere else but I don't remember (which just means I need to go back!!) But the kicker of key lime pie was at Flying Fish. Margarita Key Lime Pie. Oh man... so good and full of tequila. Granted I had it in January and I'm not sure if its still there but I';m so glad I happened to be there while they had it. There's a pic and description in my trip report *link in my signature*.

I live in South Florida. I can tell you firsthand, Publix has a great Key Lime Pie. A whole pie is 8.99. Stop at Publix and get a pie, take it to your hotel room and have KLP every night!!! Or for two nights if you're like me! :thumbsup2

The Grand Floridian has a good key lime pie. I find almost all the sit down restaurants in the parks have Key lime on the menu.

No offense taken to opinions. I made a point of trying to describe it accurately because I know not everybody likes the same things I do. I love that fluffy moose like texture so that's why I love it. It is great how as somebody else said there are options for everybody. :thumbsup2

Lol!

I was thinking the exact same thing - too moussy for me!

I just hand juices 49 key limes. I found them at work and decided to take advantage of them. I am COMMITTED!!:rotfl:

Buy a bottle of Nellie and Joe's Key Lime Juice. Super easy pie recipe on the bottle.

This is cool. But, when I did it Grand Floridian Cafe didn't appear. But the pie is still on the menu.

Here is a thread on this with lots of great pictures and suggestions if anyone is interested.
