We will be in Orlando visiting the World in December with a day trip to Daytona Beach. :cool1: My 11 year old son really wants to try shark on our trip. Is this even possible? :confused3 If so, where would you suggest around Orlando or in Daytona Beach?

Thanks!!

Shark finning is banned in the US, but you can still find shark meat on many menus. I know this isn't the place for this, but please consider:

Nearly 200 million years before the age of the dinosaurs, sharks roamed the seas. Over time, most shark species evolved as top predators with a critical role in ocean ecosystems. Unfortunately, sharks did not evolve to withstand the intense fishing pressure brought by modern fleets and, today, are among the oceans’ most threatened animals.

Maybe your son would enjoy watching them at Sea World or the Living Seas more than eating them! :thumbsup2

the shark served is usually Mako, and it's really not that good, same thing as alligator. at least the alligator is farm raised, the shark that are overfished aren't worth it. I'm not an animal rights kind of guy by any means, but the thrill of eating shark is pretty underwhelming when you actually taste it.

take him out for a tuna excursion and let him catch his own dinner.

DH has had shark at the Outback Steakhouse, on special. He too thought it wasn't good at all and a shear waste of money.

Thanks for answering my mom's question! I probably wont eat shark thanks for the a advice. :sad2:

Used to eat alot of shark, self caught and purchased, the best really was Black Tip. Mako is tough. Sharks are in decline, and we don't eat it anymore. I would suggest he try gator instead. Much sweeter meat, I don't think there is any kind of shortage, and alittle more adventurous :thumbsup2

Eaten Gator plenty of times and I honestly really like it, should be more available. As far as shark, I just saw it in the seafood section of my local Publix and maybe one day I'll try it, but I haven't heard many people saying they enjoy shark, so I don't think it's a must do.

We tried gator ribs and nuggets at Gatorland. The ribs were smoked and we didn't care much for them, but the nuggets weren't bad. They reminded us of pork.
