Where can I smoke

Okay, I know I have alot of questions, but I just booked my first Disney cruise for the Eastern route in early December.

I'm assuming I can smoke anywhere that is "open air", but what about in the restaurants and clubs?

Can't smoke everywhere in open air..there is no smoking around the Mickey Pool and no smoking in any of the staterooms or dining rooms...you can smoke in the clubs after 9pm, and never in any of the theaters.

No problems not smoking in the Mickey Pool; no kids that age; just the girls (16 and 18). But no smoking in the restaurants? I love a good cigar with a steak

And everyone else enjoys clean fresh air and a steak

You can smoke almost everywhere outdoors, including all private verandahs. Only the Mickey Pool area is designated as non-smoking.

Indoors, you may smoke in Diversions at any time except when family activities are underway. You may also smoke in the smoking sections of Sessions and Rockin' Bar D after 9:00 p.m.

There is no smoking at any time in any of the restaurants, in the Promenade Lounge, the Cove Cafe, and atrium, and any interior walkways. And the staterooms are 100% non-smoking. (Other cruise lines allow smoking in all staterooms.)

DCL knows they need to take good care of smokers and non-smokers. DCL largely succeeds. It's the best cruise line for non-smokers, but smokers have many places to light up.

I'm one of many folks on this board who would like to see some fine tuning of the smoking rules. I wish the ships had designated smoking and non-smoking areas outside. Rockin' Bar D is primarily an entertainment venue, and it's a shame that those who are sensitive to smoke are excluded from enjoying the entertainment in Rockin' Bar D (which they paid for through their cruise fare).

I think I read that you can smoke on your verandah, if you have one...although I'm sure someone (judging by the thread regarding smoking on balconies at WDW) will complain.

I'm a smoker (not cigars) and while I consider myself very considerate, I don't expect to be hassled about smoking if I'm smoking somewhere that smoking is allowed.

Who knows, maybe I'll quit by 11/11/04.

Thanks, Sweet Angel, I appreciate your viewpoint much more than Rence's. You're right, if its a smoking area, I don't expect people to complain about it. They know about it before-hand that there may be smoke.

I'll smoke my cigars in the bars, then, after dinner.

I may be wrong, but there may be only a select few places where you can smoke cigars. Check the FAQs on the cruise line site.

From the website...

Where can I smoke onboard?
Smoking is permitted only in designated areas of the ship. Guests are allowed to smoke on open decks (except near the Mickey pool) and on the verandah of their stateroom. Inside, smoking is permitted within Sessions and Rockin' Bar D in the Beat Street entertainment district on the Disney Magic® and within WaveBands and The Cadillac Lounge in the Route 66 entertainment district on the Disney Wonder®.

Edited to add:

According to the Passporter, cigar smoking is allowed only in the ESPN Skybox and the usual open-air guest areas.

I don't think the ESPN Skybox is still around...

Yep, just saw on the disneycruise.com site that there is NO cigar smoking in any public area. I think its a stupid policy (other smoking establishments don't discriminate against a specific type of smoker), but I'll abide by it. But I'll smoke my lungs out on my veranda! :earsboy:

Hi CyberFerret -

Welcome to the board.

While I'm fully aware of the draw of taking a Disney cruise, as many of us have a serious obsession here, why have you chosen to go DCL? With 2 teenager daughters (apparently interested in drinking from your other thread) and your passion for cigars, I would think you'd opt for a line like RCCL with more adult offerings.

Noel

My family has gone to Disneyworld several times, and everyone really loved it. So when the idea of a cruise came about, everyone voted "Disney!" as our choice. The kids have been coming with us for each of our trips and are both mousefreaks. My 16 year old wants to bring a friend with her, so I may let her. If I do that, I'll have three girls to keep an eye on. Pity me, please!!!

Is it so hard to imagine that someone who smokes and/or drinks could appreciate or even LOVE Disney?

Do you really want to know? It seems like you're subtley suggesting the OP not choose DCL.
Maybe the OP has a serious obsession with Disney, and likes a good cigar, and whatever whatever.

He already said he'll abide by the rules, so what more do you want?

OP, have a great trip.:D

Okie Doke, the OP asked about the smoking policy. That has been answered.

Let's avoid a debate about smoking and stick to Disney's policies regarding this subject.

Thank you very much for your cooperation.

I think the place you'll like the most is on the port side, deck 9, just outside the Cove Cafe. I spent a lot of time there on the 10/2 cruise. It's reasonably quiet (18 and older section) and the chairs are comfortable. It's cigar friendly and they'll bring you a big ashtray. There were quite a few burned there (not by me) as I recall...

Don't worry about it.

My girls and I are staying in a garden suite at BWI for a week before the cruise. So, the cruise is a natural extension of the vacation. We're all excited about two weeks doin' Disney stuff. Is a cat 3 stateroom big enough for four adults? Especially if two want privacy?
