It has been a long cold winter! I am interested in traveling this upcoming weekend to see SPRINGTIME!

(I am not interested in visiting places like Florida, California or Arizona where the trees are green year around, i want to see a real spring scene!)

Here is what I am looking for:

Trees that have fresh new green leaves.
Flowering dogwoods, azelas, etc.
Green Grass
Temps in the upper 60s to 70s
The smell of spring to the air.

Is there anyplace down south with that much spring yet? Maybe Alabama, Mississippi, Southern GA, South Carolina (Charleston?)

If you live in one of these early spring places, please report in!

It is not green in Arizona year round. If you would like to see spring there, just stay out of the Phoenix Metro area. There are beautiful mountains in the central to northern part of the state. People grow flowers, the trees change color in the fall and bud in the spring. Even in the desert some trees drop their leaves and get new ones in the spring. The wildflowers that bloom will blow you away. Cactus have beautiful flowers, some are in bloom now, they will continue until May. There is a lot of grass in Arizona, also. You could do a lot of geographic research on Arizona and find out what a broad brush statement you just made.

To the last poster. Thanks but I have been to Arizona and lived in Phoenix for five years. In the greater Phoenix metro area 98% of the trees are green year around and while there are some spring flowers and signs of spring, there is not the full spring time feel you find in the eastern USA.

Though I agree some parts of Arizona has trees that lose their leaves in the winter and can be quite beautiful in late April and May. (for example the area around Flagstaff, AZ)

Still looking for advice on the most beautiful spring locations in mid to late March. Thanks!

Well, you did say "(I am not interested in visiting places like Florida, California or Arizona where the trees are green year around, i want to see a real spring scene!)", which is an incorrect statement.

Cherry blossoms around here are from March 24 - April 2. Its beautiful here in D.C. during this time, although not as warm as some of your more southern states.

The view outside my window is beautiful right now. The Bradford pears are in full bloom. Charleston would be pretty, too. It has been reasonably warm. I think the high today is supposed to be around 65.

The azaleas and such are just starting to come into bloom around me (Houston). If you wait a week or two, the wildflowers should be blooming.
