I don't know how they are "nasty" or can make your ears "bleed". That's weird. They're not "nasty" --- they come in a sealed, hard plastic package so they're not "dirty" or "nasty". They've never made my daughter's (or my) ears "bleed" so I have no clue what you're talking about. I'd rather spend $5 and get 5 sets of earbuds and have them on-hand than spend $10 on 1 set and have it break or blow out and have to go out and get more. The wiring on earbuds is NOT meant to last unless you're just sitting there listening to your iPod and not moving. It's cheap garbage, whether you're paying $1 for it or $10 for it --- you're getting the same thing.
Nasty sounding. Earbleading is a description of the feeling in your ears when you are at a too loud concert, or too loud earphones. A well rounded tone doesn't cause that sensation.
