We have not seen The Song of the South and can't seem to find it anywhere. We are looking to buy it on DVD, Does anyone know where we can find it in Massachusetts(somewhere near Monson)?

I don't think you can buy it in the USA, maybe check e-bay :confused3 I found the soundtrack album at a church sale in mint condition :cool1: good luck

Thank You for your reply!! I will try what I can to get this movie. It is probably the only Disney movie I have not seen. I wish it wasn't so hard to find!

Somewhere on this board emailed me a link of someone who was selling copies of it. $20 - DVD works fine - and the kids love the movie. That was almost two years though - I have no idea what the link was.

That being said, about 6 months after I bought the DVD, I read an article about a guy in the same town (I think it was Atlanta) who had been arrested for selling pirated copies of the movie. Probably was him.

I just sent you a PM.

Cheers.

Like them or not, outside of ebay the only place to get it is from a P2P network. Pros: you've got the movie. Cons: quality can be bad and you have to watch it on a computer (which isn't a big deal if you have a large monitor or a computer is hooked up to your A/V system).

ditto the e-bay thing. that is where i got my UK version a few years back. had to pay to have it copied to US compatable VHS - quite expensive, but worth it. will probably have to hit e-bay again to get this on DVD.

great flick - especially for splash mountain fans. brings it all together.

I, too, would love to get my hands on this movie! My daughter's favorite Disney song is Zip-a-Dee-Do-Dah. She recently asked me where the song came from. I would love for her to be able to see the movie. I remember taking a field trip in school to go see the movie in the theatre. If anyone has any recommendations on how to get a copy, I'd be most grateful for the info. :)

While I don't support this...............YOU CAN find good versions on free downloading services.

We got ours off ebay. Decent quality. Kids loved it, DS said that Splash MMountain made sense to him now. Hope Disney releases it, we will be buying a new copy.

Another vote for e-bay! :Pinkbounc
FYI, there are several websites devoted to this movie and the alleged reasons Disney has never released it. It makes interesting reading!

My dad has Song of the South on LaserDisc from Japan. You can watch it in Japanese or English.

He made our family a VHS copy & the clarity is perfect.

The movie plot is OK, but we really enjoy the Uncle Remus's stories of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox & Brer Bear and the songs.

DH bought this on e-bay about 10 years ago for $70. Then we had to pay to convert it to US VHS. Now we can't find our US version!

DH is going nuts because we are going to WDW in August and he wants to watch it with the kids before they ride Splash.

I think I loaned it to someone, but can't remember who..... :confused3

I have an original laserdisc version of the movie, that was the only way I was ever able to find it, Don't know if it will ever be made available again.

There is a strong rumor that Disney may release Song of the South on DVD by the end of 2006. Nothing was said about editing out of some scenes that might show too much politcal incorrectness.

U.S. (NTSC) VHS and DVD bootlegs abound on eBay. The quality is unknown and can vary widely from one copy to another. There are three known original versions, a PAL VHS cassette for the European market, a laserdisk for the Japanese market and with Japanese subtitles during the musical selections, and a(n extremely rare) laserdisk for the Hong Kong market. If you can get your hands on the laserdisk and a laserdisk player, making a VHS tape from the laserdisk yields a much better picture quality than making an NTSC converted tape from the PAL cassette.

Does this sound legit? There is a seller on e-bay selling DVD copies of the movie. Claims that it will work on US DVD players.....in fact, says that it will work in ANY DVD region. Also claims that sound and picture quality are very good. Also says no subtitles. They are selling them for $2.99- Buy It Now price. Looks like the seller is located in Taiwan. Shipping is $9.99.

I'm skeptical, what do you all think?
