T

(Just started my web site, that will probably be another year!!!!)

Hi Tracy,

Are you going to join the UK band of DIS scrapbookers!! There are quite a lot of us including Bev S97, Janice, Nick the Cat etc etc. Make sure you do a search on the UK Community Board to see the threads we have had in the past!!

The two best online stores (by far) are, in alphabetical order:

http://www.artbasehornchurch.com/ and

http://www.scraptastic.co.uk/

Also, have a look at the Recipes and scrapbook forums on the US Community boards for lots and lots of info!!

HTH!!

Ohh Tracey - I do hope you'll join us on the Scrapbooking Group on the CB :)

Are you sure you're ready for this addiction? It equals the Dis for addiction believe me! LOL

I am going to pop this over to the CB so that our regular Scrappers can take a look and help you out too.

What sort of stickers did you particulary want??

Hi guys

Thanks for posting and moving me ;). Right I am really not sure what I want.

From all of my trips I have made up albums which include, photos, tickets, pennies, brochures, maps, stickers, diary write up, nick nacks etc etc etc , I think you get the picture :earseek:

Anyway what is the Scrapbooking group on the CB, it sounds fun and very addictive, i get all excited working on my albums. I only use the albums with the pull out pages that you seal down, do you know the ones I mean and then decorate them to.

With regard to stickers, the hologram disney ones and some representing seaworld, universal etc anything really. Going to check out the links now but am really interested in the SG/CB thing.

Hope you can help me once again

Loads of hugs

T ;)

I am not sure if mine is a scrap book or a glorified photo album, does that sound the sort of thing that you guys do

Hi Tracey -

So glad you're interested in the group - we have some good fun, just posting our ideas, and talk in general about the work we have on the go, new products etc. etc. We have even had a swap in May - we must be due for another one!

So this is the right place for you.

I have all my Scrapbook pages on an Epson Photograph site - here is a link for you to see what I have done so far.My Scrapbook Pages

I use a 12" x 12" format - I got the album from Artbase - it is a Dalee. It was quite expensive (about £35) but it is a lovely Tapestry covered one. The pages I created are all created on cardstock which is Acid & Lignin Free. This is a really big issue amongst ardent scrapbookers as Acid and Lignin can really damage photo's over time. The magnetic type of albums are the worst offenders! Where the sellophane page lifts up and you pop the photo's under and it sort of sticks in place?

The Dalee albums comes with Plastic Page Protectors that are removable from the album and you can add more and more - and even by Post Extensions to make the Album take even more! I think you can fit about 50 Page Protectors in the album altogether, with embellishments on (lumpy stuff!)

I am actually in the process of taking all my childrens early school portraits out of one of those albums and putting them into my new Album in the form of Scrapbook pages - here are a couple I did over the weekend that are not on the Epson site yet.

JamesandKatie1982.JPG

These photographs had been in the album for almost 21 years and were beginning to go brown from the Acid.

I hope I haven't alarmed you - your Album being a new one, could possibly be Acid Free - Bev knows more about this I think. I dont worry too much about it in my Scrapbooks - so long as the actual photo is mounted on Acid Free Paper or Card I feel quite happy. A lot of the other stuff I usemay not be acid free but I dont bake a big deal of it. I just want to preserve our photographs so that my Grandchildren, their Children and so on - can see where they came from etc. etc. etc.

Disney Stickers - I got from WDW in May - but I know that the suppliers Fiona gave you do sell them too - and the service they both offer is second to none - so have a mooch around the site.

Well I am sure there is tons more to tell you - but I'll leave room for the others in the group - but Welcome, you'll soon find out that we are all totally addicted to Scrapbooking. :)

I also make Greetings Cards too - both hobbies sort of go hand in hand. Cards are an ideal way of using up all the bits and pieces left over :)

Ooh traci - sticky (or magentic as we call them) are a big no no! But actually I think it depends on how old they are, and how expensive. I have a very cheap one with my university photo's in, which has browned and turned some photo's orange. I think some of the newer one's are supposed to be acid-free. What they all are, however, is very sticky, which means that if you ever want to get the photo's back out, you can't.

Anyway - I could go on and on (and on...), but it sounds to me like you are so close to scrapping in the way I mean, that you should take a look.

there is some really good info here
Graceful Bee Starters Info It's probably a little overwhelming, so please feel free to ask away if any of it doesn't make any sense.

Bev

PS- You can see my scrapbook here

Hi Tracy and welcome to scrapbookers anonymous. This hobby is very addictive, definately as addictive as the DIS.
I've been doing this since April and it has taken over my life, my dining room, my bank balance
If you have any questions just fire away

I think you've got me going aswell :p
I've been looking at Bev and Janice's pages, and the two links that Fiona gave for online shopping.
This is something that I definatly want to do. Its a great idea for keeping memories. Ds is 11 months old, so now would be a great time to start, while all of his early memories are fresh in my mind, and I have all of his early photos. We've got our first Disney trip coming up soon too.
How would I go about finding a shop near to me in Newport or Cardiff. I don't want to buy online, I would rather go to a shop where I can have a good look and pick what I want ( because I'll be starting from scratch I'll need everything ), and Essex is too far. Do you know of any scrappers from South Wales ?

:jester: 95 to go :jester:

sorry Alex, there are no stores in Wales that I know of.
There are actually only 6 stores in the UK, none of them near me :-(

they are

www.scraptastic.co.uk (essex)
www.artbasehornchurch.co.uk (essex)
www.scrapmagic.co.uk (surbiton)

www.thescrapbookhouse.com (Chipping Norton, Oxon)
(They have a paper catalog which is very extensive, but the prices are high, might be nice to browse the catalog, but buy elsewhere)

www.scrapbookmemories.co.uk (Telford)
www.thepapertrailcompany.com (Bridlington)

or there is a company called Creative Memories , who have consultants around the country. They might have one near you - they would be able to show you some products and do a demo, a bit like an Avon lady. The only problem with CM is that they don't have an extensive range.

I think there's a post out there about getting started, but really you just need some cardstock, some safe adhesive, and an acid-free pen. Everything else can be added later, as you get addicted, until you have enough stuff to open your own store... and still don't have the right piece of paper for the page you are working on...
you can get card by the sheet, but if you are just starting, I would probably go for one of the coordinating packs, then you get a selection of card that you know will work together.

I would also buy a couple of magazines, probably Creating Keepsakes, or Paper Kuts, and Simple Scrapbooks to get some ideas - or you can browse the net - there is a ton of info out there.

Hi Alex

Great to have you joining our little band :)

Starting now while your DS is perfect, the memories of all those 'firsts' will be wonderful for all his baby pages. This is where I am struggling as my DS is 25 and DD is 22 now and the memory isnt as good as it was!!!!!!!!! LOL

Supplies: Well, most of us shop exclusively online as there are only a handful of dedicated Scrapbooking Outlets in the UK so far.

I am not sure if there are any near to where you live, try looking at www.scrapbookhouse.com - I think they are in your 'region' although my geography is pretty awful!

I hope you enjoy joining us and look forward to seeing any of your layouts :)

Thanks for the info both :D
It looks like I'm going to have to buy online :( Its just that you can't see the products very well, and I like to have a good look at what I'm buying. Getting the catalogue is a good idea Bev. I will send for that.
Would any of you know if there is anywhere in Orlando that sells this sort of stuff ? Or do you have any tips on anywhere to get Disney stickers ?

:jester: 95 to go :jester:

Hi Alex :)

I got my Disney Stickers in Dowtown Disney although to be fair they didnt have much of a selection.

They sell them in World of Disney and what I got quite was quite nice at reasonable prices. There is 'supposedly' a scrapbooking store opening in Downtown Disney very, very soon but I dont know if this will happen before your trip.

Bev went to quite a few Scrapbook stores during her last trip in June and I am sure she will be back soon with the details :)

Alex,

there are loads of scrapbook stores in Orlando, but none really near to WDW.

The easiest place to visit is Michaels, which is nearish to Universal Studios - you pass it on the way to Belz. That's a craft supermarket, for want of a better description, and has a few aisles devoted to scrapbooking.

for a dedicated scrapbook store, I would probably suggest visiting the Altamonte Mall, which is just north of Orlando. If you like to go to the Florida Mall on your vacation, this is a bit further away, but a reasonable alternative, and while the rest of your party shop, you can visit the scrapbook shak which is right in the mall.

there is also a store not far from Orlando airport, which is worth a visit http://www.memorylaneorlando.com/ this is not a huge store, but they had nice things and it's probably the closest/easiest to find to WDW.

Bev

Thanks again both for all the info.
Being as there are alot of places to buy from over there, I'll wait until I come back to get started. I can have a good look at all the bits and pieces, get what I want, and then make a start. I'll start saving photos and bits and pieces now for my baby book.
With a bit of luck, the new store in Downtown Disney will be open.
Do you know if the scrap booking stuff cheaper over there ?

:jester: 94 to go :jester:

Hi Alex

In a word.........YES..........but what bumps the price up for us if we buy online from a US source is the shipping costs. As paper and card and that sort of stuff is quite heavy, it can cost quite a bit to order and have it shipped over, then of course you've customs to contend with too.

I buy the occassional item from Ebay - and usually the people you deal with are familiar with the shipping costs and will tell you if an item is too heavy to ship. I ordered quite a lot of embellishments the other week, saved myself quite a lot of money overall - and as it was all light stuff, the person I bought from put them in the normal post and I had it within 5 days at no extra charge :)

If you can shop whilst you are there and bring it back with you then so much the better. I would suggest you surf the net, look at some online shops and make a list of stuff you would like and then check it out once you're there, comparing prices etc and checking out the weight issue.

HTH - just a tad envious that you are going to wDW soon and will get to a scrapping shop :D :D :D

Yes - It won't be long for me Janice :p :p :p I can't wait.

I won't be buying anything online until I know the sort of things that I want. Once I've had a good look at the stuff, and have got more of an idea of what I'm doing, I'll probably buy online then ( well I'll have no choice anyway, I'll have to  )
We won't be going back to WDW until 2004, because we're planning another baby after xmas this year :D , so I won't be able to go to their stores for stickers etc. for a long time after this visit.
I'll have to get a load of stuff while I'm there :D
Would you know a link to help me out getting started ?
I'd like to take a list with me of everything that I need.

:jester: 94 to go :jester:

Well now there is a proposition! LOL

When I started off - the first place I looked at was here:

http://www.gracefulbee.com/newbees/index.html

I read everything through before I started my 'wish' list.

Then..........I sorted out some of my favourite photo's that I wanted to begin with (I copied them on my scanner so that if I mucked up or changed my mind I wouldnt lose my favourite pictures) and sat down with a pad and made a list of what I knew I wanted to do with the photo's. Did a rough layout on paper to give me an idea.

Then I went shopping. I was lucky and lived really near to Scraptastic and Artbase so a visit to both was made fairly quick and I came home armed with lots of Magazines which are a fab source of info, paper, cardstock, clue, scissors, craft knife etc. and went from there.

My first page I did was of my childrens first day at school - and you can see that in the link in my signature. I bought the lettering template to help with cutting the letters, but now would say that wasnt an essential item.

Have you bought any books yet?

Scrapbooking Secrets by Becky Higgins (A Creating Keepsakes Publication) is brilliant.

I do think though that the best thing is to do lots of research before you even touch the shops (on or Off line!) LOL

Ill have a think and see if there is anywhere else that will give you basic info.
