I've heard you can pet the Belgians and Percherons that pull the Main Street trolleys at Fort Wilderness... somewhere. :p I'm deserting my husband with four of our children while middle daughter and I go to the Magic Kingdom next week and I was going to suggest something Disney-ish for them to do that day, since I'm trying to convince the rest of my kids that doing the Disney World parks as a family next year would be fun. Youngest daughter is a bit horse crazy, and disappointed that the horses are gone from Sea World, so if I can find somewhere she can pet horses somewhere Disney that would be a major coup. ;)

they are at the livery stables at the Petting Farm. They keep the horses there. You really aren't suppose to pet the horses but people do anyway.
Also, they have pony rides for the small kids for a small fee.

The petting farm use to be great with goats, sheep, cows, chickens, peacocks, pigs and such but theres hardly anything there any more. I guess with sue crazy people liability was probably an issue.

you can tell the people who have petted the horses, they are the ones missing fingers. :lmao:

The MK horses/ponies are pretty well "protected" in their stalls so that you can look, but not really touch. I caught this little beauty snoozing in November...

You can pet the other "pony ride" ponies though...

I like to take pictures of all the empty spots at the petting farm, then I show them to my friends and say, "Thats where the cows use to be, and thats where the sheep use to be and thats...."

If they are out and about you may me able to get close enough to pet them. It is not a smart idea however. You never know what might spook one of the horses and cause them to take a nip at you.

The sign says No Petting or Feeding, please.

If petting the horses is against the rules I guess I'll send them to the zoo. Youngest will not expect to get to pet the leopards. ;) Or maybe I'll have hubby get her a pony ride at Fort Wilderness, I dunno.

Thanks for all the information and pictures, everyone. :grouphug:
