In the DFW area, all three major chains (Tom Thumb, Kroger, and Albertsons) does the triple double coupons. Tom Thumb and Kroger doubles up to .50 and Triples up to .35 all the time. Albertsons runs once a month or so, triple to .75 and double to $1.00. This is when I stock pile. But, you still have to be careful because their prices are most expensive, but there are still a ton of things you can get really cheap or free.
I think because SO many people shop at Walmart around here and Super Target, Sam's, etc. They HAVE to entice shoppers to go to their stores.
The ONLY way to save money (for me) is to only buy the things that are on sale at Supremarkets for free or cheap with coupons. Then go and buy the rest of the groceries at Walmart.
My last Albertsons coupon run, my total was $320 and I paid $61.89 out of my pocket.

In my area, NW of Philadelphia all the stores double. One doubles everything up to $0.99 and one up $0.50. Every once in a while the stores will offer triple coupons.

I usually save about 35% on my grocery by using coupons and the stores special prices.
