If your hairdresser moves to another salon, do you follow them?

I have always followed them

One of the hairdressers we use at a family salon is leaving. She cuts dh and ds3 hair.

Dh said he will just go to a barber now instead. I told him he should go to the new place where she is going because his hair is styled really well. I guess its a family salon too because she told them where she was going.

I have followed the lady I use to at least 6 different places over the past 12 years. I like how she cuts/colors/styles my hair plus she will give me an honest opinion if a style or color would do well with my hair. She always moved within 5 miles so it wasn't a big deal. One time between leaving one place and opening her own she even came to my house to do my hair. One person I was going to when we first moved here moved almost 20 mi away. I couldn't follow him that far.

I have followed my hairdresser to 4 different locations. If I'm going to spend that kind of money, I want to be sure I trust her. She currently has her salon at her house about half an hour from me and I've been going there for 5 years. We're the same age so I hope by the time she retires I just have a wig. :)

I've used several hairdressers over the years. Only had a long term one for 5 years, (she stayed at the same salon all those years), and then I moved out of state. That being said, I have come across a few instances where a hairdresser would tell me she's quitting, and let me know where she was going to next. But I've never followed any of them. Guess my reason is I choose salons for certain reasons. Location, or because of other services offered, like if it's a full spa and salon.

Never had a hairdresser "wow" me enough to want to follow them everywhere.

I had a woman that I used for years and loved all the things she did with my hair over that time. I trusted her. She had her own studio that she shared with her husband that was nice and quiet. The building they rented was going to be torn down to build something else that would not have retail in it. They had to find a place to move. They ended up joining another large salon as partners. I did go to her a couple times after the move but her price jumped up a lot and then I wasn't getting the one-on-one attention I'd had for years. She was too busy being a boss to others that she was constantly looking around to see what else was going on in the salon instead of concentrating on my hair. I left.

I decided to go with long hair in a straight blunt cut that anyone can do and I go to Great Clips now.

I keep thinking I might want a style...but I don't know who to go to. I haven't seen anyone with hair like mine in a style I admire to ask about where they get their hair done, so my hair stays one length, 17 years later....

I haven't, but I would. My color is very tricky and requires a highly skilled hair stylist. I've been known to drive 2 hrs to get my hair colored (before I found a local person). I currently drive 45 mins to get to my salon, and I would absolutely move if the owner who does my hair, had to.

Absolutely without a doubt. You should be faithful to the hairdresser, not the salon!

I have followed my hair dresser to a new state. She started a salon down the street from my office in NYC. Then she moved to Long Island and opened her own salon. it was a 45 + min car ride but I went because she was a master with my cuts and my color.

then she moved to NJ and since i live in NJ i was THRILLED. SO now I see her in NJ but yes I would follow her.

I have done so on more then one occasion for my current stylist. She is just that good.

However, I am moving soon and will have to find someone new and that stresses me out!

I would have but I guess I wasn't a good enough client or didn't tip enough because she neglected to tell me she was moving or where she went. I have a new person is the same salon and I like her a lot. So I'm too sad anymore.

Yep, I have followed my guy for almost 30 years and to 4 different places (all local, one move was because the salon burned down and all the stylists have to find temporary places to work).
I have a longer relationship with hairstylist than I do with my DH :thumbsup2 :lmao:

I've followed my hairdresser to 3 different salons and now she has opened her own. I've been going to her for the past 14 years. The couple of times I've tried to go to someone else, I haven't been happy with they way they've done my hair so I have been more than willing to follow my stylist.

I always follow my hairdresser. She works from home now and I go there. She is absolutely amazing.

Until recently, no. I would use that as an excuse to try someone new. But now I have a guy who does the best job and I've followed him as he has moved more than once in the last year.

I don't agree with that. As other have said what if the person moves to a place that is too far away, what if the hours of the new salon don't work for you. I worked for a large very nice salon & we did retain lots of clients when staff changed salons, the policy was to always tell clients where a stylist moved to because if they don't care for or if the location does not work for them most of the time they came back to us.

I've followed the same girl to 3 different spots. She's the owner of the current place, so I'm hoping this is the last stop unless they need a bigger place :thumbsup2

I've been with my hairdresser for over 20 years now...10 different salons. Thankfully, 9 of them were in our hometown and one was in the next town over.

I haven't needed to but I would within reason. I don't have any color and my style isn't a complex one to cut, so if my hairdresser moved out of state or something I could find someone else if I needed to. But she's also a family friend and does a really nice job. The farthest I'd go if she moved is probably 40 min? I'm spoiled now because the salon is 5 min from my house.

Absolutely. My hairdresser has worked in several different places and I always go to her. Even after we moved to Ohio, I still only go to her (she is in IN). Before Disney last year, I put my kids on the bus to school, drove to IN to get my hair cut, and made it back home about an hour before the kids got off of the bus.
