Is having a "noisy" dream (where they're chasing something, barking, whimpering, etc) do you wake them up, or let them keep sleeping. I just had to wake poor Maddy up because she was whimpering so loudly, it was really starting to get on my nerves, lol :dog:

I always try to wake Jake up & comfort him, talk to him and tell him it's okay, kindof like I would my kids.

I usually do the same thing. LOL. I usually get my cat involved, too, though. I say "Sassy, look at Jake, that dumb dog" LOL

Your doggys name is Jake, too. My Jake is in my siggy.

Usually we are too busy giggling. He makes these weird little noises that sound like the bubble noises that used to be on that VH1 show "Pop Up Video".

Awww, your Jake is cute. So is Sassy. My Jake is in my siggy too. I wish my Jake could have a kitty friend but DH is allergic to cats. My kids tell him he could go get weekly allergy shots! For some reason he won't go for that! My DD really wants a kitty.

AWW, thank you! Your Jake is handsome too! My Jakey is a girl, though (I know, gasp, why name a feamle dog Jake, I've heard it many times before). I don't know if they are hypoallergenic, but maybe you could research the hairless cats, I think they are called Sphynx or something like that. Again, I don't know if they are ok with allergies, but you might want to look into it if you want a cat.

It depends. I can usually tell if it's scary dream or he's just barking and running in his sleep. If it's sounds like he is scared I whisper, "Mommy is here" and he quiets down. If he's having fun, I just let him run around in his mind.

Our dog whimpers when he's dreaming. I just let him be since that is the closest he'll get to the poodle he's dreaming of!!

It depends...

I have this fear when they start twitching too much...

About three years ago, I had a dog who woke me up two nights in a row having a grand mal seizure. Things got bad and I had to make that terrible final decision...

Now, when one of my dogs starts twitching, I get a little nervous, so I usually say something or pet them to have them "calm" down and to make sure they are really okay, you know?

If he is having a scary dream then I will comfort him, but if it is more of an enjoyable dream I let him keep dreaming (he could be chasing his princess!!).

Usually DH and I just crack up and watch her for a bit, but don't wake her up. If it's at night, I try my best not to wake her up unless she is relentless and I can't sleep because of it.

You're not really supposed to wake them up while dreaming (that is, on a regular basis) because it prevents them from getting the deep sleep they need. I read about a guy whose dog was very anxious and was acting out a lot. Eventually a pet therapist realized what the problem was; every time the dog started dreaming/running in his sleep/whimpering, the owner shook him awake.

It was because the dog wasn't getting enough replenishing deep sleep that he was misbehaving during the day. Once the owner let him sleep through, he said it was like having a completely different dog!

Ever since hearing that, I usually let her be during her little dreams.

i wake them up. i think its sad to hear them whimper and stuff. so ill pet them to try and wake them up.

Let sleeping dogs lie!

I definitely let mine sleep. It's the only time she's not a total PITA. If she seems really disturbed in her sleep (rare), I'll lay a hand on her and she'll settle, but I don't try to wake her up.

Nah, I let him keep on chasing whatever he is chasing in his dream!

If its the middle of the night we usually wake the dogs. If we are awake and they are dreaming - we let them dream. Its a riot to see one of our dogs running in their sleep. :dog2:

Ummmm.... yeah Megan, I was playing with Josie in that dream and then Max the cat came over and we were chasing him up a tree- that was some big dog fun. I'd appreciate it if you didn't wake me again.

I'm very sorry, but you were bugging me! :rotfl:
