Do you step in?

Do you correct them if you feel they are wrong?

Do you refer them to this site for correct information?

we were talking at dinner the week before xmas at a small family restaurant. my aunt wanted to know all about our trip from october and we're telling her everything, when people at the table next to us say

WE JUST BOUGHT DVC!!

so all of us were talking for a little bit. usually people just go yeah, it's nice, but it was great to talk about it with people that understood!

idk if they are on the boards, but hi to the family that was at zydeco's the saturday before xmas! :goodvibes

Only if people ask. I always get an inward chuckle when I hear something completely false -- like the other day, someone was saying that WDW no longer does princess dinners. As if!

I agree. I only hope into the conversation if asked or if the information is so wrong it will do harm to the person traveling.

If asked I will always give my favorite sites for reference and remind them to make ADRs at dinner wherever the extra magic hours are. Other than that, I try not to overwhelm them. I feel like if I open my mouth volumnes of info might come out and then scare the traveler away from Disney (or me!).

Yeah for me it depends on who it is. I work in a dental office where many of our patients know I'm a Disney fanatic. OR if for some reason it comes up with someone who really sounds like they want information then I can talk their head off :rotfl2: But there are many other times that I hear people discussing Disney, clurless people who, think they know what they'e talking about, those people I just let go on their ignoant way .

In general, No, I do not open my mouth. I usually have to bite my tongue! LOL
If anything, I'll ask them about their trip. They will usually ask something to the effect of have you been there or do you go to Disney with which I will respond that we go at least once a year. Then they usually start asking me the questions. If they ask questions, I will answer them and maybe 'add' a little info to those questions.

If it is a close friend or family member, I will 'gently' inform them of their inaccuracies. But I have family on DH's side that knows way more about WDW than I do. :rolleyes1 But they don't know about the dining plan or free dining codes for that matter and about FP, etc...

It depends. Once at a TAgency a lady was booking a Disney trip. This agency doesn't specialize in Disny at all. I listened for a while while the TA gave all the wrong information. I mentioned one thing to my TA and was told that that agent was really informed on everything Disney. I felt sorry for the family that was going because they were really ill informed. Last summer one of my team mates was going on her first Disney trip with her family and her sister and her family. I started to talk to her about things like ADR's and she just said that it would be okay they were going during free dining. I left it alone as her sister knew all about Disney as she had looked at the Disney site. Sometimes it is not worth it to talk because others "know better".

If folks ask questions, I will gladly answer...and I really really try to stop talking before their eyes glaze over! :) I do provide websites - disboards and allears.

I've corrected a few misconceptions from time to time.

One, that Universal Studios is not Hollywood Studios (or MGM).

Two, the number of parks and that they are NOT connected and that you cannot walk from one to another.

Three, that there are cheaper options for hotels on site. I couldn't stand to see them pay $150 a night to stay off-site in a standard hotel room because the only quote they were given was for a mod/deluxe.

I also tried to tell an acquaintance that Christmas was the busiest time to go, but they were convinced that their own half-baked logic was sound and it would be the BEST time to go because NOONE vacations at Christmas-time. I BEGGED them to go to various websites and check first. Don't just take my word for it. Check! They didn't. Oh Well. You can't say I didn't try.

But, there are times to keep quiet.

My SIL took her three girls for one day last summer. I didn't know about it until they stopped by on their way home (we're in Indiana, she's in Oklahoma). They paid for one-day tickets to the Magic Kingdom and didn't arrive until 11 a.m. :scared1: It KILLED me to hear this.

But, the girls were just gushing about everything they did and the characters they saw. They stood in line for Tinkerbelle at noon !!! But, they figured out fast pass fairly quickly, got a prime spot for the parade as soon as they saw the crowds forming, stayed past closing, and had a great day.

So, I kept my fat mouth shut. :goodvibes No reason to ruin their great day by trying to tell them they could have done it cheaper or better.

I have to restrain myself when others are talking about Disney, esepcially if they're total strangers (Like when I'm waiting on line in a store). If I hear something totally off the wall, I'll politely intervene ("No, I don't believe you're allowed to bungee-jump off of Cinderella's Castle."). ;) Other than that, I keep my mouth shut. You know ... I basically have to bite the inside of my cheeks to keep from blurting things out.

It's difficult sometimes, especially when I see someone wearing a WDW sweatshirt or tee-shirt. My first instinct is to rush up to them and start the whole, "When did you go? Where did you stay?" thing. I don't want to seem like a big weirdo, though, accosting a total stranger.

I'll admit that I do get rather snippy with family. I mean, for the umpteenth time already: The Harry Potter Forbidden Journey ride is not located in the Magic Kingdom ... Umm ... It's at a completely different theme park.

I have referred a few friends to the DIS boards.

Most of the time I just keep my mouth shut. But I do work with a girl who grew up going to Disneyland and also goes to Disney World all the time too. She is as obsessed as me so we talk a lot about it. To the random stranger...nope, I just smile and nod.

When a friend asks me for advice, I give them a few tips and a few websites to go to for advice. I have one friend that I convinced to go in Feb rather than at Christmas time and she had an awesome trip. I have one friend that I referred to this board and she's now a posting member. :thumbsup2

I usually just listen.
I find it most interesting to listen to former castmembers talk. Which is probably why I enjoyed the Mouse Tales behind the scenes books so much.

No offense, but when opinion ,and different experiences and expectations merges with fact, as it can on these boards, a lot of misinformation can be put out.

I usually don't unless asked.

The one time I did say something without being asked was to my cousin. Her parents have a condo about 45 minutes from Disney and wanted to take her oldest daughter to see the princesses, but didn't want to pay for a 1 day ticket because it was so expensive. I told her she could at least see Cinderella if she just ate dinner at 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian.

I don't think she really believed me. Oh well, her loss!

Yup, we have some of those. They paid rack rate at GF over Christmas break hoping to be on Tv for the Disney Christmas parade. Didnt believe me that it was filmed weeks earlier... They didnt seem to have a very good time, no dining ADRs, no plan, etc. But they knew everything before they left.

Random strangers I try to keep my mouth shut.

LOL!

Anyways, if I heard someone is going to Disney I just sit back and listen usually, but if I get the drift they don't know anything about FP's, etc. then I offer advice. One of the doctors I work for had never been and had not one clue about anything! So I dug out my "Disneyworld with kids" or however it's titled and gave it to her. (I had already absorbed as much as I could and had been 3 times by then.) Another doctor left just a few days ago and they'd never been and was mentioning that his sis-in-law seemed to be a bit overboard with not wanting to miss park opening, etc. so I stepped in and told him that the Christmas-New Year's week was one of, if not, THE busiest time of the year and if his sis-in-law was well versed in the DW, then BY ALL MEANS, listen to her! Get up EARLY! Use those FP'S to help you enjoy the parks.:) I love helping out when I can...and I love hearing about others' experiences!

Not living in Florida anymore--I am noticing less and less folks talking about Disney and when they do, they do seem less experienced on the Disney front. However--after all my years on the DIS, I am biting my tongue. I don't want to sound like an overzealous Disney freak. So no--unless they are speaking directly to me, I won't jump in and even when they are speaking to me, I say mostly affirming statements for what they share. Again--I don't want to sound like a Know it All. I never mean to come across that way--but in all my moves growing up--once people got to know me, they would admit to that being their number one complaint when they first met me.:rotfl:

So not a chance in Fantasyland will I say a peep about Disney. I may just refer them to the DISboards.:rotfl2:

Spill...what did the TA tell that family???

Do you step in? Sometimes depends on the situation, most people that know me will tell me if they are planning a trip and I give them tips or help them plan.

Do you correct them if you feel they are wrong? Depends on how much difference it will make, I've had to bite my tongue even at Disney when I see/hear people doing things that just aren't a good idea.

Do you refer them to this site for correct information?
Never.

Last weekend I met a lady who tried to tell me how to do Disney. I was dumbstruck. Now she didn't actually give any misinformation, but I am way beyond her level.

I admit to being an obnoxious Disney know-it-all. In my Medieval Lit. class, the talk turned to WDW. A classmate began spouting off incorrect info. I interjected with an "Actually,..." Yeah. I was a total know-it-all.
