... Or did you pick a different name when you actually got pregnant and/or saw the baby?

I'm not pregnant or anything, but we have been "thinking" about thinking about having a baby within the next two years.

Anyways, we have two names that we like already picked out, but I guess we both want a girl more because we reference the girl name often.

We have "Ava's Room" in our house already ;)... My husband is saving up for a motorcycle, and he said the other day, "... it's for a motorcycle, or for Ava stuff, whichever comes first." :)

I know most people HAVE favorite baby names that "if they had a baby tomorrow" they would use, but do most people ACTUALLY stick with that name?

DH and I never had any favorite names together, and the ones I liked didn't get used because he and I weren't on the same page. I like unusual/old fashioned/ethnic names, he's more classic all-American. We've managed to find good compromises, but none have been the names I'd have chosen on my own.

I had 1 name I really wanted to use....but I had a boy instead! :lmao: It took DH and I MONTHS to agree on a name. We don't know what we are having this time around, but if it is a girl she will not get my favorite name. She will be named after my grandma who passed away this year.:sad1:

We only have one and he is a boy , but i remember when i was pregnant i at the time liked the name tanner for a boy , then when we told everyone what his name would be and the more we stared saying it the more it sounded like a bad idea so for him we went with the name ryan , and i have always like that name , and it suits him. If it was a girl i;d have a heck of a time because i like the names sarah, amanda , rhianna and the list continues so in answer to you question no we didn't go with the first name we liked.

We had a boys name and a girls name picked out before we were even married! When we had our first child, we used the boys name. When we were told by the ultrasound tech that the 2nd one would be a girl, we were all set to use the girls name. However, a week before I gave birth, another ultrasound showed it was actually a boy! We had no idea what to name him so we got a baby name book and found one we both liked. Otherwise, we were all set to use the names we picked out years ago.

Oh my goodness! Did you already have a house full of girl things!?!?

Well, I had my favorite names picked out before I was married (which included some family names). My DH had some family names he wanted to use (all women from his GGM down have the middle name "Mae"), so I had to compromise with him. My DD was easy; for my son, we knew the first name ahead of time, but didn't decide on a middle name of Harrison until we did his birth certificate (the only non-family name for either child). Funny how much he enjoys Indiana Jones!

When we got married, we had names picked out for a girl and a boy...we never wavered from the names when pregnant with our first. We had a girl.

When I got pregnant with number 2, we still really loved the boy's name so we kept it, and struggled with finding a girl's name. Right up until the delivery, we hadn't really settled on a name for a girl.

Good thing we had a boy...and we used the name we'd picked out when we were married. Never had to choose another name.

:)

We didn't really have any favorite names. With each child we picked two names, one for a girl, one for a boy. Different names each time. I guess the *one* name we did stick with was George. It's my husband's first name. His father was George and his grandfather was George. When DS24 was born, we was John George. WHen DD17 came along, I actually didn't give it much thought, but John really wanted his sister to have his name, George. So her middle name is Georgette. When the last one came along, it was just a given. So Christian's middle name is also George.:upsidedow Yeah, our families think we're a little tilted.

I love that! I want to use my husbands name, but he goes by the nickname and hates his name!

When we found out we were pregnant we went through baby name books and made lists. I had always liked the name Lucy but wasn't set on using it. However, nothing else really jumped out at me and the more I thought about 'Lucy' the more I liked it. But, I wanted to use that as a nickname so I suggested 'Lucinda' after a singer that I like. DH wasn't sold but eventually I convinced him. He picked her middle name, Renee.

For our son, we kept his gender a surprise so we chose two girls names and two boys names. I let DH choose the final name in the delivery room since I had really chosen DD's name. The four names we chose were Daphne Corinne, Cara Faye, Kyle Anderson, and Owen Maxwell. I admit I was rooting for Kyle. I have always loved the name Kyle but DH went with Owen. I like his name a lot. Maxwell was always a favorite of mine. But I do still wish I had pushed harder for Kyle.

No not favorites of mine

Son # 1 named for paternal uncle

Son # 2 is 6 years younger and son # 1 picked his name

Daughter named after the Blessed Mother and her cousin because we prayed so long to be able to adopt a baby girl and felt our prayers were answered.

We had two names in contention for DD. One name was a name I had in mind ever since I graduated from high school and the other name came into rotation when I was pregnant. We liked both names equally.

However, the name I had in mind for years, it is very uncommon, really a rarity. Because of that, we thought people might think we were really out there so we went for the safe choice. We decided on DD's name right after the 20 week ultrasound.

However, I do regret not going with the not so common name. And in some ways, the hubster does too. We do happen to live in an area where DD's name is not as common, when we go to Disney and meet other Reagan's we hear about how the name is widely popular in their area, but where we are it is scant.....Anyway, the unusual name has already been deemed to the next child we have, if it is a girl...whenever that will be.

Well my family wouldn't of thought you guys were tilted..I have the same name as my mom, Nana and my great grandmother(moms side) and my brother has the same name as my dad and papa(dad's side).

What was REALLY weird was growing up(like in High school)I loved the name Michael Anthony. Fast forward to like 10 years later DH and I were deciding on boys names(we were told we were having a boy) DH said that he wanted to name our son after the 2 grandfathers. So we took FIL's middle name which is Michael, and my dad's middle name which is Anthony and I got my Michael Anthony..this was all DH too, I had never mentioned to him that I had always wanted that name for a boy....when DS was 13 months old I found out I was pregnant..At the ultrasound appointment we were told it was a girl. We did come up with Noah John just in case the baby ended up being a boy..

As for a girls name, When I was 13 I was watching a "made for TV" movie called "Alex, The Life of A Child" It was about a little girl named Alex who was battling Cystic Fibrosis. She passed away at age 8. I remembered admiring her courage and strength and thinking "what a pretty and strong name for a girl" I loved it...So I have my Alex(Alexandra)...and boy is she strong willed.

I fell in love with the name Peyton before we got pregnant, but while we knew we'd be trying soon. My hubby's name choice was Marissa, so those were the two in the running for girls name, who chose not to find out the sex. I never really planned on using Marissa and I ended up with my choice in the end.

She is a Peyton through and through, can't imagine her with any other name. :cutie:

When I was pregnant, many moons ago before you knew the sex of you baby, I had a lot of dreams. I dreamed I had a girl, I dreamed I had a boy, I dreamed I had a miscarriage. I dreamed I had a still birth. But the only dream I had with a name, was when I dreamed it would be a boy. It was a boy and I named him the name in the dream, Daniel.

I've never thought about the name Mary Elizabeth in these terms before. I think that is absolutely beautiful!:lovestruc

Love it! It was a name I loved in HS. But my sister married a Michael. Then, my other sister had the first baby, a boy, and she named him Michael. So my sister who is married to Michael had a son a few yrs. later and named him Stephen Michael. At that point, I would have been afraid to use the name Michael since both sisters already had! lol
It is a very nice name. Glad you got to use it!

I always though I'd use the name Megan (Meg) because it was a favorite of mine while growing up. When I finally had a baby, I decided I didn't want to use it. There wasn't much discussion on baby names for us; Hunter for a girl and Kirk for a boy. She's Hunter. :):lovestruc

We did not start thinking of names until I was actually pregnant. We had one girls names & 2 boys names chosen. We had a girl & named her Kelsey.

When I got pregnant the 2nd time & found out we were having twins we already had 2 boys names chosen from the first pregnancy & kept those as our choices (Ryan & Eric). We then chose 2 girls names & had 2 girls who are named Ashlyn & Marissa.

If we were to have had boy/girl twins they would have been Ashlyn & Ryan.

We wanted to be surprised with the gender of our child so we had a girl name and a boy name picked out way ahead of time. DD is named for my grandmother! I love the fact that she has a name that is meaningful to us not just something that we liked the sound of. I actually just wrote a blog post about her name!

When I got pregnant we chose a boys name, Mason Dean. We both liked the name Mason since nobody around here has that name and for his middle name I took both my parents names (Dan & Jean) and combined them for his middle name of Dean. And for a girl, we had to look through the baby name book for A LOOONNNGGGG time. LOL I had always like the name Alex for a girl. DH didn't really care so it was Alexandria Shaune if it was a girl.

Well, baby #1 was a boy and he was named Mason Dean.

Then got preggo with baby #2 and I JUST KNEW that I was having a girl and that I would get my Alex. I even practiced throughout my pregnancy saying, Mason & Alex, as I would when calling them in for dinner LOL LOL LOL. So when I had the ultrasound and found out that it was a boy, I was dumbfounded. Ya know, cause I JUST KNEW it was girl. LOL So back to the baby name book we went and we just couldn't decide on another boys name. And I got so used to calling my children (in my head anyway) Mason & Alex, that we ended up calling baby #2, Alexander Paul (Paul being my DH's name).

***and on a side note. For my screen name, I just took the first three letters of my oldest son's name and the last three letters of my youngest's son's name and came up with Maslex, for those that are curious on other people's screen names.
