where do you and your family vacation?

I know, I know the thought is well...practically unthinkable but I was just curious as to where Disney lovers go when Disney isn't an option.

Other than Disney & little local trips, the only other place I go is middle Tennessee.

My DH has asked for the "Disney break" next year, so we are going to do at least one "smaller" trip. We are planning on going to Holiday World (in Santa Claus IN) for a weekend and then maybe go to Tennesse to take my Mom (and my 11 yo DD) to Graceland and also go to Memphis Zoo while we are there. Other than that we are just going to try to save some money. We are wanting to renew our vows (at Disney, of course!) for our 15th anniversary in 2009 and it is EXPENSIVE! We will have to be saving for a while!

We are going to Washington DC in June. We will also do short trips to Myrtle Beach this Summer.
Our next big WDW trip is for next Winter

We did Washington D.C. this past spring break. Other family favorites include St. George Island (near Appalachicola on the Florida panhandle - we've been there many times), South Dakota, the Rockies, Door County, Las Vegas (surprisingly alot to do with kids that doesn't involve gambling), Gulf Shores, AL, and Santa Claus Indiana - water park and amusement park both very family oriented.

Well, living 2 hours from WDW we always go there at least twice a year. For our other vacations though we go to Gatlinburg Tennessee. We love the horse back riding, white water rafting etc.. It's really nice there. This summer we hope to go to The Keys for a weekend get away.

We travel to different areas each year. Last year we went to Hawaii and Washington DC. Previous years we have done the beach thing in Delaware, Maryland, North and South Carolina's.
Cruising is a good option for a lot of families. Ski trips in winter. San Francisco is a lot of fun as well. I guess it all depends what a family wants to do on vacation.

Since this is the family board i will answer only since ds has been born. When ds was 15 month old we went to the Rivera Maya in Mexico and in Jan when ds was 22 months old we went to Jamacia. In sept we are going to wdw. He will be 2 and 1/2.

Living in southeast Virginia we are fortunate to have lots of inexspensive and close by vacation spots. We go to the Outer Banks a lot. We have a cottage there. Plus we only live about an hour away from there and 15 minutes from Virginia Beach. We also like to do day trips to Busch Gardens and Water Country. I can't wait to try out The Great Wolfe Lodge they opened there. Has anyone been to one?

I have not been myself, but a co-worker of mine went in March. He has a ds (almost 4) and a dd (five months) and they had a great time. He said that he and ds spent 9 hours playing in the water one of the days that they were there. We live in the Raleigh area of NC so it's a bit of a hike for us but we will be visiting before 2007!

we do disney every other year, and when we go we stay most of the month of dec in florida, so in the off year which for us will be 2007 we do mini trips, next year will consist of hawaii, ireland and canada all spread out of course

My DW also wanted a break from Disney, so this June we are going to Las Vegas for a few days, taking the babysitter with us as well!

We have been to one in Wisconsin Dells and Sandusky, OH. LOVED both. We parked the car and didn't leave the hotel. There is something for everyone. Youngest was 3 and 4 when we went and she had a blast. I was worried she wouldn't enjoy it because big sis got to go on the bigger slides, but she LOVED it. There is also a Kids Club you can take them to and make differrnt craft items (pretty inexpensive if I remember correctly). My DDs are still signed up to get the booklet every few months and always ask when we are going back.

Be sure to check the website for specials too -- we got a great deal in the Dells.

We haven't been anywhere BUT Disney in the last 2 years...see my signature.
:goodvibes

Some of our fav's are Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia Beach, Victoria B.C., the Biltmore in Ashville NC. We stayed at a neat place in Ohio once called Landolls Mohican Castle.

We are addicted to cruises, but since we have a son now, we are taking him to Disney. Can't wait.

May take him on a New England/Canada cruise next year.

I have desperately wanted to go to the Grand Canyon. So I am planning for April 2007. We went to Disney last in July '05 (for Disneylands 50th), won't likely make it back until 2008 or after, with the family. My youngest and I will be going for Magic Music Days in May 07, but I don't count that. But other then that I don't think we have gone anywhere, well expect an overnight to trip to Orgeon (just to say we've been) a couple years ago.

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina!!! :woohoo:
It's by far the favorite vacation spot of our family when not at Disney. We love the beach and the relaxing atmosphere of the island. Doesn't hurt that DH's aunt, uncle, and cousins liveon the island. Love Charleston, SC too.

We drive down to San Antonio. We visit the Alamo and go to Sea World. We usually stay in a Kabin at the KOA. It makes for a nice little vacation.

We rent a cabin in Clear Lake, Ca. every August and I float on a raft with a cold drink complete with umbrella straw for a solid week.

We take our tent trailer for a long weekend over 4th of July and go to this cute little Town in N. Ca. called Graeagle. They have a big pond for swimming, lots of little shops for browsing, awesome fireworks and a great hometown parade complete with pancake breakfast at the fire house.

I usually take the kids camping the first week school lets out and then the first week of August - which are the only 2 weeks of the summer that DS does not have some type of football practice or summer weight training.

In the spring and fall, we try to sneak in a weekend or 2 to my brothers house in San Jose and spend a day at the beach or in San Francisco.

During the winter we spend Thansgiving weekend here in Town at the Nugget that has a great indoor pool. We swim and relax while watching it snow thru the atrium roof.

I dream of going to Alaska and we are contemplating a large family trip to Vegas and the Grand Canyon.

Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas!!!! :sunny: It's TRULY paradise!!!

This year will be our 4TH year in a row going! We usually go for 9 or 10 days. We leave in 3 weeks and 2 days for Paradise. It's AMAZING there!!!! My DS who is 4 1/2, LOVES it there ALMOST as much as he loves WDW! We will be taking our little princess for her first Bahama trip ever. I can't wait!!!!!!
