We currently have a trip booked for the last week of August (20-27) but are considering changing it to the week between Christams and New Years. For those of you that have gone at these times...which would you choose and why!!!

my SIL just went the dec/jan this year you are talking about and although she said it was pretty IT WAS SO CROWDED SHE WILL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!!

I don't know how crowded it is in August, but I can't stand the heat. I get enough of it where I am.

Went one year Jan 2nd and saw the tail end of the Xmas crowds. Wow, it was packed, and had people remark to me when I mentioned how crowded, that this was nothing, should have seen it last week. No thanks, it was awful.

I know someone that was there the week between Christmas and New Year's day this past year and she said never again. She said it was shoulder to shoulder people at times and even with the planning was unable to snjoy much. I don't think I would go that time of year after everything I read on the boards about the crowds but then I have four children. If it was just my husband and I maybe it would be different.

I guess it depends on how you feel about heat vs. cold, and special events vs. the regular menu of attractions. For rides I would choose August, but for atmosphere I would go at Christmas. :earsboy:

You are looking at extremes as far as crowds and weather - late August will be very low crowds, as schools have begun for many; it will be hot, and you may have to deal with hurricanes; Christmas week will be extremely crowded, and possibly cold enough for jackets and maybe even gloves...

Personally, I would choose August.

We went once between Christmas and New Year's. It was a great time to be at WDW in terms of atmoshpere.

If you go that time, you have to make your goals much less ambitious. When we went, we knew that we were not going to be going on as many attractions and that lines would be long. Literally, there were days when we would be in a park all day and only hit a few rides/shows.

definitely the august time slot... schools around the country (specifically in the south) are already in session by your dates... we typically go the following week to wonderfully low crowds... friends of ours went the week you are looking at in august and was pleasantly surprised at the low crowds then as well...

i guess the decision is crowds vs. heat... i'd take heat any day!

Weve been both. Last week in Aug is hot(what I like) and not crowded at all. Christmas-New Years was cold(think winter jackets and mittens and still being cold) and mobbed. Id definitely go for Aug.

We've done both... I would DEFINITELY choose the week after Christmas. The Christmas decorations are great, the weather is nice, no heat and humidity. August weather is pretty bad, either it's horribly hot and humid, or it's pouring the rain. :umbrella:

I would go at the end of August. Reasons: Lower crowds, local kids back in school, warm weather. I would not go in December due to it being cold and flu season. At that time of year everyone seems to be catching illnesses.
