When would be a good time to upgrade?

We are going to the world September 2011 and will be getting the free QSDP. We are more than likely going to upgrade to the DDP and I'm wondering if we can upgrade at any time. Is there a benefit to doing it now rather than waiting until closer? Do they limit the amount of upgrades at a resort like they do the free dining itself so we might miss out if we wait? If I do upgrade now and something happens that we want to remove the upgrade, will they let us?

Thanks for any help you can offer. We never had to worry about the dining upgrade stuff before, so I'm just looking for the best strategy. I've looked for the answers in other posts and didn't really see anything regarding this kind of thing.

Thanks!

I can't answer your question "if you upgrade and then need to down grade" whether there is a penalty charge or not.

I can answer that you must upgrade at least 72 hours before you arrive, at least that is my understanding.

And whether or not there is only a certain quanity allowed to upgrade, I wouldn't think so....but I don't know for sure. I would assume WDW would take your money for the upgrade anytime. LOL

The only problem is, if you wait to upgrade everyone else has their ADRs already scheduled...you very well may not get into any TS restaurant if you wait.

Thanks for your response. I knew about the 72 hours and I definitely would upgrade before my 180 days out. Of course, I could still make ADR's w/out the upgrade then cancel if we end up not upgrading. DH's contract with work is up in January and they are not sure what is going to happen after that, whether there will be cutbacks and things like that. I guess that is what I was thinking of when I ask those questions. Whether we would lose out on anything waiting until after January to upgrade, or gain anything by doing it now, but I think you're right about WDW taking the money whenever.

Thanks!

Just keep what you have for now, make reservations for TS and upgrade when you find out. WDW doesn't charge if you add to a reservation, they'll always take the money. That has been our experience (we haven't changed dining plans but have added additional people) You can just cancel the TS if you decide not to upgrade

If you upgrade now and then downgrade after the 45 day mark, you may be charged a $50.00 fee to do it.

There was something posted a few weeks back that mentioned that Disney may be charing for all changes, upgrades or not, after the 45 day mark in 2011. How true this is, I do not know.

What I would do is wait to add it until you are 100% positive you want it. As you mention, you can still make your ADR's without it.

I would wait until you know for sure. While Disney would allow you to upgrade at any time, I'm not certain that if you decide to downgrade again at a later date, they would let you have your free dining back.
