hospitals are LESS busy? or more busy?

way less. And I’m in NJ. Not all hospitals are overwhelmed.

we are down 200 beds per day. And we went from 90 OR cases a day to 10. Factor in no colonoscopies and other same day procedures, no routine imagine, people avoiding the ER, etc and it’s a virtual ghost town around here. It’s very eerie.

I'm really surprised by the breakdown on the poll. From the conversations we've been having, I thought the DIS was a more cautious bunch.

I think this poll does show that the DIS group is more on the cautious side. Yes, a lot of people voted that they will return to normal habits right away, but 2/3 still said they’ll wait at least for a little time.

The way your poll is structured you're actually not getting that 2/3 said they would wait for at least a little bit. That's your interpretation but isn't actually what you're asking. You asked when people would go back to normal so if you wanted to know if people would personally wait longer even after restrictions are lifted in their areas that would have needed to be an option in the poll. That would reflect that people are choosing to be more cautious in delaying their resumption of whatever is considered "normal" at that time even after having been given the greenlight to do so.

As is "As soon as restrictions are lifted" can be Summer 2020, Fall 2020, Winter 2020 and 2021 so a person can answer as soon as restrictions are listed but feel that it may not be until one of the other poll options, they could answer one of the other poll options but feel that's because that's the more likely time the restrictions may be lifted.

And as others said some just voted because there was no option to see the poll results without voting.

Most of us are under the understanding it won't be a lightswitch on and off so all of our normals will def. be different depending on what area we are in.

**It's your poll just giving a different viewpoint on how it could look to others and interpretation of the results :)

Seeing this lots of places now, certainly not just here; the mental gap between the Summer 2020 voters and the 2021 voters scares me. People are out of savings and this can't go on. When the CA Governor, LA and LB mayors declared we are shut down until May 15 at least, I think that was the last straw. You can talk about science and flattening curves all you like, people are going to start getting VERY desperate.

I am completely normal now.

I go to work, I go home, I eat, I go to bed.

Spring is trying to come, but cold rain is holding it back. I have tires and cables ordered for the bicycle. The only thing that has changed is I was going to order some accessories for the motorcycle and I won't be spending extra at the moment. No big deal, it's accessories I don't need.

When I get the bicycle back together, I'll be riding the bicycle and riding the motorcycle same as I always do when I'm not working.

I'm not addicted to shopping and have to spend money and walking around stores constantly. Pizza shop is still open so when the kids are here we are still doing our usual pizza weekends.

Nothing changed, except a lot less people on the roads going to work and since it's only 7-10 of us left at work, it's a LOT quieter at work. I've never in 25 years heard my footsteps climbing the stairs. I'm the only one running a piece of equipment. Normally I can't here my cell phone ringing if I have it right up in my face.
I am the same I go to work do my shopping because my supermarket hasn’t any delivery slots go about lire almost as normal the only thing is I am think8ng of getting a water softener but can’t do that yet.

I think this lockdown has helped solidify that some of the stuff we do is kinda dumb to begin with. I haven't had to fill the gas tank since before this all started. That's fantastic, in my opinion. Did you know the smog lifted in LA? Isn't that awesome?

I think some of our habits our bad and should change for good. Like, being more careful about hand washing and sanitation in general. Not driving as much. Stuff like that.

I kinda think we'll all go out driving a bunch as soon as we can lol. Because right now it's not that we can't afford to, like in the Recession when we had to be very careful about our trips, it's that we can't go out..so as soon as we can people will probably for at least a bit afterwards drive around more than they would have.

On that note some serious speeders have been happening on the other side of the state line in my metro. People are using the highways and roads for racing far more than they did before.

But on the note you're talking about I think it has shown a very visible can't ignore the evidence in how certain places were with pollution. In my state they've asked farmers to reduce their controlled burns..unfortunately they aren't listening that well. We've already had several days of exceeding the recommended air quality. One day I woke up went downstairs and smelled smoke as in a fire smell inside the house..kinda thought I was crazy. Then a few hours later the news picked it up that it was controlled burns happening several hours away that had made it's way to multiple areas not close to where the burns were. That was one of the days where it exceeded the recommended air quality.

I think the main dumb thing is all these businesses requiring people to work in the office. More people should be working from home. That’ll create less driving. My SO will most likely continue working from home permanently. It was always an option but they required so much for it (you had to have a dedicated room/office, etc). Well when this went down they gave him some equipment, he had to set it up and no one cares where he works from.

Some of it varies person to person and level of comfort. If things start to open up, I am going to take a somewhat wait and see approach. We are in our 60s, DH has some underlying conditions. Not sure how comfortable we will be going to a restaurant and we said no air travel for awhile.

However, I am also thinking this will be very phased in, as far as lifting restrictions. I am not sure we will see ”normal” for quite awhile. It will be a new normal that we will need to adjust to.

To some degree it will depend upon what those restrictions are for that particular activity as we (DH & I) assess the situation. Will we feel more comfortable, as we see infection rate has not spike and our local restaurant has 10 tables and spaced apart, as opposed to 20 tables. We don’t know.

My DS27 & his fiancée had to postpone their April wedding. They moved it until November and who knows if that will happen. Even if not on lockdown is not happening (raise in cases due to flu season, etc) will the caterer cancel? Depending on what it all looks like at that time, who knows? Their venue is a county facility and they may close, just don’t know. Their other option was April 2021 but they didn’t want to wait that long and who knows what the landscape will be then.

This is all new to so many people and we continue to do our part in all of this. We would rather see a longer term lockdown, if it meant that things won’t have to be shut right back down. We may already be needing to do that as it is, during flu season and if the Coronavirus has a 2nd wave. I don’t want to see things open up and a month later, closed.

should add...we are both able to work from home. As a reference, we are in Southern Jersey outside of Philly.

I agree with all of this. I'll add, going out to eat - did that FAR too much. We treat ourselves to take-out once per week now and that's plenty - probably saving a couple $100 each week on that alone. Our employers are counting on us to make working from home profitable. I brought home my entire setup from work and didn't miss a beat. How can they ever expect us to go back to the 40-hour-a-week commuting grind? I mean, they had squeezed us into "open office" anyway - it' can't get much more disruptive than that. My wife and I are both quite happy working from home. The kids out of school with little to do however - that has to go.

hospitals are LESS busy? or more busy?

In our area the actual ER is LESS busy because people are avoiding it like, well the plague. All of the folks that used to go to the ER for less than emergency reasons are staying home and self treating, people aren’t out and moving around as much so sport and accident injuries are down, and at least in our area they are not admitting people unless it’s extremely necessary (have a family friend in a full pelvic cage after a serious accident, they sent her home the day after she had surgery to place the pins).

One of the weird side effects of lock down.

Less busy here too. The COVID19 crush is starting to slow, even though I'm in a hard-hit metro, and with everything else cancelled to free up resources, a lot of hospitals on the fringe of the metro are ghost towns. In my county, we went from outrage at local hospitals taking overflow from Detroit because people were afraid that it wouldn't leave enough resources open for when the disease hit here to welcoming those patients because they've slowed the layoffs that hospitals further out are doing due to the shutdown of so many functions. Up north, there's talk of hospital closures if the restrictions aren't lifted soon because they don't have enough patient volume for continued operation.

Last week or maybe it was the week before IDK time is kinda lost these days lol they were looking at some buildings/areas to use for field hospitals in my area. However, I don't know if they will need those (and I hope that stays that way) even though we haven't quite hit our peak usage nor peak death rate yet. The projections at least are the number of hospitalized and number of deaths is expected to be less than originally thought. But I am glad they were at least looking into places for field hospitals proactively.

They did open one here but it is operating well below capacity. Another was scaled way back - 250 beds instead of the planned 1100 - but is still in the works, and a third was cancelled entirely. Most hte projections show us as past peak, both in cases and deaths, and both numbers came in much lower than forecasts indicated even a week or 10 days ago.

Yes, I live in a fairly small town and traffic has cut in half and I see 2 Fast and the Furious kids in blacked out window lowered fart can muffler Hondas flying around. Yesterday on the way to work, they passed me well over 100.

I voted 2021. Not going to put my family at risk. A 2% chance of death (higher for older, lower for younger) is not worth going to a ballgame, or a theatre, or a restaurant. We will wait several months at least and go when it is safer.

The money being saved from this will go towards a backyard jacuzzi and a long, nice vacation next year.

Today I noticed some neighborhood kids (family with 5 kids) riding bikes together. All giggly and happy. I’ve rarely ever even seen them outdoors! Made my heart happy to see that little “bicycle gang” our neighborhood sprouted!

Yeah they've caught multiple people going well over a hundred. I don't think I've ever gotten that high myself.

Some are motorcycles some are regular cars.

The police department that I was talking about that is on the other side of the state line released this information on April 11th:

Within the past week:
~the department issued a ticket for 133 mph in a 55 mph zone.
~motorists were ticketed for going 123 in a 65 mph zone
~86 mph in a 55 mph zone
~79 in a 35 mph zone
~76 in a 45mph zone

Last week (so the week beginning Monday March 30th):
~the department issued tickets for 117 mph in a 55 mph zone by a motorcycle
~95 mph in a 55 mph zone
~125 mph in a 65 mph zone
~102 mph
~108 mph in a 65 mph zone

I mean speeding isn't new but whoa baby are some people taking it to extremes due to lower vehicle congestion.
