In the process of purchasing, we should close within the next two weeks. After that, when should we get a membership guidebook? Will we need to call Disney and request one or do they automatically send one to new resales? Also, do they assign you a guide (a person) automatically? Thanks (and thank you for all your "welcome homes" on my last post!!!)

Also, do they assign you a guide (a person) automatically?

If you are already in the process of a sale with Disney, then you already have a guide. "Guide" is just DVC-speak for sales person. After your purchase, you don't need a guide until your next purchase. DVC does have someone "assigned" to every member. If you are doing a resale, I'm sure someone will be assigned to you. If a guide leaves DVC they just assign someone else to those accounts.

Not sure on the timing of the book. If you are buying from DVC I'm sure you'll receive one. If it's a resale, you may have to purchase a copy if the present owners to pass along theirs.

I just currently purchased an OKW resale. We just sent our closing documents and wired the money. Since we bought resale are you saying that we won't get a new guidebook or you're just not sure.

I figured we would get a new guidebook with our welcome package. Can anyone who has purchased a resale confirm one way or another for me?

Thanks for the help!!!

We closed on our resale March 28 and I got a book a couple of weeks ago. I did not have to call for it.

Thanks nisiemouse, that makes me feel a little better. So it sounds like it took a couple of months from when you closed. Was it included in your welcome package?

Glad you got an answer on the guidebook. I wasn't sure whether DVC would provide another since they do list the book at $15 as "member merchandise".

We have been DVC members for 1.5 years now. We never received the new guidebook. Finally, last month I emailed them and asked them to send our copy. Then I emailed them again and then once more, and finally got ours last week.

As has been said before, it is amazing that the same mailing list they use to send out the dues bill cannot be used to send out information to members

We purchased a resale at BWV in December 2001 and still have not received a guide book. Apparently, Disney sent one out to me in January and shortly there after they called me to see if I in fact did receive it. When I told them no they said they would check it out on their end and get another one to me. After not receiving one by April I called again. They said they would send me one but as of right now nothing yet.

I purchased a resale from The Timeshare Store two years ago. We received the member guidebook directly from Disney about a month to six weeks later. No problem. They should send you one: you should NOT have to buy one.
Purchasers of a resale are treated exactly as if they have bought from Disney and get everything a retail buyer gets except the DVC tote (or whatever token they are giving away at the moment).

Mickeygolf: We did not get a welcome package. We just received the book with a letter. We still have not received our permanent member cards yet. Congratulations on your OKW purchase neighbor! :)

If I read the latest VM right, we will all get a new book this September.
