2016: The Year of the Hungry Mouse! :sad2:

Disney has announced yet another upsell - Magic Kingdom After Hours.

http://www.inquisitr.com/2912667/wa...sney-after-hours-paid-event-at-magic-kingdom/

For $149 PER PERSON, you too can enjoy 3 extra hours in the MK after the park closes! Seriously. This is not an April Fools joke!

So far, the dates scheduled are:
  • April: 14, 21, 28
  • May: 5, 8, 12, 19

No special parades or entertainment are planned for those nights. Food venues will be closed. It sounds like only attractions will be open during that time period.

I wonder how this will affect evening EMH for onsite guests? And if there is no effect, is this a way for Disney to add "value" to onsite stays?

I read that is morning. It's getting ridiculous!!! I for one, won't participate in that. I guess if people don't buy, then they'll discontinue it, but my guess is that folks will line up and pay the big bucks :/

So that's an extra charge because you already have to have the daily park ticket? :scared: $50 an hour extra!

$150 per person? I don't get why so expensive. Even the party-nights don't cost that much and it's essentially the same thing but without a party theme. At that price point, it will be very exclusive time. We're talking walk-ons to the SDMT during the 2nd and 3rd hour of late night. Maybe ppl will pay $150pp for that. I wouldn't.

Yes, but have you noticed that there have been no announcements as to when MNSSHP or MVMCP will be held? I'm wondering if they will also bump the price tags up for those events?

Here's a link to Disney's own announcement for the "events":

Yep! $149 (plus tax, probably) extra! The Disney website states that you can enter the park at 4 PM, just like other hard ticket events.

Disney is not a nonprofit. I'm not sure why you care about this offer, no one is forcing you to purchase it.
Can't we discuss something that we consider to be an overpriced event without someone throwing the "Disney is a business" meme out to quash the discussion? This is a message board. Your comment is duly noted.

And I care about this because I own at DVC and tend to take advantage of evening EMH. If this catches on, I can see evening EMH at the MK being curtailed or eliminated. Is that a good enough reason for you?

This is just ridiculous. I honestly think they will quickly realize what a bad idea this is. When I saw the rumor yesterday I thought I might be something like the conference events they put at the MK for the price tag. When I saw Mickey bars and soft drinks included I just couldn't believe it :sad2:.

I have no interest.
They used to do this kind of thing with a much much lower cost long before EMH was implemented. I guess adding in ice cream and drinks makes the higher cost make sense?

it just makes me think of getting a tour guide. If you have a group of people and want a few hours of extra magic it can be a good deal to get a plaid but if you're one person and you want to ride everything it'll probably be a good way to do it, but definitely not something realistic for a family to do. I don't think they're trying to appeal to families with that one though.

The only way this makes sense is if it was just my husband and I going to already be in Orlando and planning to go to WDW for one day and it would have to be a day where it went until 2am because it says you can get in at 7pm. But yeah that's never going to happen.

Can this be purchased in lieu of an admission ticket or is it in addition too it? If its in lieu of I would do it for one the nights it stayed open until 2. I don't spend more than 7 hours in the park, and if its truly a limited number then it won't be so crowded. I'm pretty sure the 14th and 21st cover Spring Break for alot of school districts, so I'd definitely go at night and pay an extra $30 a ticket for less crowds.

Whether or not they can/should charge this is a matter of opinion--and I think the point of this discussion--but Disney is not a nonprofit. They are definitely a for-profit business, traded on the NYSE, and elsewhere.

The poster you quoted said they were "not a nonprofit"
