When will BC/BWV/WL get with the 21st century?

Does anyone know how the Feb 2009 FCC deadline for going all digital (doing away with analog TV signals) will affect all this?

I realize the hotel/resort signal distribution systems are very different from a home setup but would have to guess that the majority of CRT TVs in the rooms lack digital tuners, especially if they are more than a few years old.

Congress keeps pushing back that deadline. Originally HD was supposed to be standard by 2006. TVs without digital or HD tuners are becoming more rare. Eventually standard TVs will be as hard to find as a black & white with only mono sound.

I was about to vote NO, but when you mentioned stacy it made me rethink my answer.

I guess I would still have to vote no, as the wife hates stacy and thus I have to hate stacy by default.

p.s. [wife not in the room] ...I would vote for HD stacy if I was allowed too.

We hate Stacy but that aside, a flat screen is not important at all. And the LCD refresh rate (at 8MS) is too slow to watch sports with.

For me, nope I would not want a dues increase simply for a flat screen TV. The amount of time I spend watching tv at Disney world, the thing could be cubed for all I care.

I don't think if matters if your receive the signal from cable - like all of the Disney TVs do. It's only the sets that receive their signal over the "airwaves" that won't work at some point.

No...

1) Disney TV selections are not very good and unless you actually have an HD signal on the channels, then getting a Flat Screen is a waste of money. Better to wait until all stations have made the change and HD is the norm.

2) YOU ARE AT DISNEY AND IN ORLANDO. GET OUT OF YOUR ROOM AND GO HAVE FUN. IF ITS NIGHT SPEND QUALITY TIME WITH YOUR SPOUSE, FAMILY, SIGNIFICANT OTHER, ETC.

Ok, going to ask a question to the diser'ers out there...

When are BC/BWV/WL get with the program? I mean about FLAT SCREEN TV'S???? AKL has them, Cont has them, I wonder when DVC will replace the "old style" tv to the "new" ones?

Also, would you be willing to pay more in dues (or would we?) to get the Flat screen tv's??

Just want to throw it out there....

For me: YES, give me flat screen, and would be willing to pay more for it..
After all, they ARE getting cheaper!!

I am not willing to pay for it.... So I will just vote for waiting until it's time for the normal replacement. I don't really need to what Stacy in HDTV!

I loathe Stacy... in HD or SD she is simply annoying.

We don't spend a lot of time in the room on vacation either so I don't personally care about TVs. But I WOULD like wireless internet in every room and villa.

For free as well.. I hating paying $10 a day for it....

I believe converters will be sold and I believe there is some law that a converter for broadcast can be requested free of charge... but this is for over air not cable.

I have a feeling the FCC will change the 2009 deadline. They've already done it , so to them... whats one more time.

Not sure what LCD you were watching... Mine with the HD satellite Feed looks AWESOME! Football, NASCAR, Basketball, Baseball... it all looks great.

As with most things, the conversion to digital tv is not as simple or straight-forward as one might believe at first glance. Here are a few potential snags for cable subscribers expecting life to continue as normal after February 2009.

1) Since all Local TV Stations - Independents, as well as Affiliates (carrying the Major TV Network Broadcasts) will now be broadcasting only Digital TV Signals, the Cable Companies will confront a more complex choice.

2) In order to continue providing Cable TV Customers with Analog TV Programming, will require the Cable TV Companies to CONVERT the new, Digital TV "feeds" (which are received from either National Network Broadcasts or Local Affiliate Broadcasts) to Analog TV Signals ...
BUT! ... Current reports indicate that the Major Networks are NOT Likely to be willing to permit the "down-conversion" of their Digital TV Signals to Analog.

3) If unresolved, this would mean Cable (Analog TV) Subscribers would NOT have any access to Network or Local TV Broadcasts.

4) Alternatively, the Cable Companies will have to decide whether or not to switch completely to Digital TV...
This will involve "upgrading" all their Subscribers who presently have "standard" Cable STB's (set-top-boxes) to Digital STB's - AND require their Customers - who still have "Analog TV Sets" - to buy an additional D/A Converter. Another alternative is for the Cable Company to provide all their customers with an "Analog-Digital-Combination" STB - a costly solution at best!

That is incorrect. Cable providers must also move to a digital signal as I understand it. Every one of our TV's will need to be replaced as they are not capable, without an adapter box, of decoding the digital signal. If we switched to digital cable right now, we would need the decoder box as a result.

First, we watch very little tv at home and even less while on vacation (Disney or anywhere else). But please don't yell at me and others on this board and tell me what I should and should not do on my family vacation.

Secondly, believe it or not, families CAN have quality time while watching tv. My kids used to LOVE watching Fear Factor with us (gross, I know... ). And although DH and I didn't really like the show per se, we LOVED Fear Factor night as we had SO MUCH family fun. Our kids would laugh like crazy, get grossed out and bury their heads in our shoulders...we had a blast.

So please...just because YOU don't like watching TV on YOUR vacation and do not consider it quality time with YOUR family, does not mean you should scream at everyone else about it.

For many people, vacation is their only down time of the year...they work hard with jobs and/or family all year with little time to just veg out. So what the heck is wrong with taking some time to veg out while on vacation?!?!?
