I don't think we have opened a phone book in over a year. Anything I need i can find on the internet. So, today, they were delivering new ones on my street and i told them to just keep it. And, now that I think of it, we probably have some old phone books that we can recycle. :)

Yesterday. If I don't happen to have one of the computers booted up, then the phone book is faster.

Every time I go to the phone book to find a restaurant or business they are not listed.... Drives me crazy! :car: I find the numbers I need on the internet.

See, we have a computer on about 18 hours a day.

Oh, so do we, generally, but sometimes I'm on a different floor of the house from it, or someone is using it for something important that I don't want to interrupt. If I'm in the kitchen it's a lot easier to grab the phone book from the shelf than it is to run two flights of stairs to the family room to use the desktop. (We don't keep the laptops on 24/7 -- they get too hot.)

My friends and I go on Road Rallies and a phone bookis always on the supply list. So, I use one a few times a year. Other than that, never.

Interesting, I have the exact opposite problem. I looked up restaurants in my area this weekend on the web, first 5 that came up have been out of business for several years. The phone book was more up to date. Seems the web directories never purge old, out of service businesses and numbers from their data bases.
At work, especially when I have to do a little detective work, the old fashioned phone book is very helpful.
Also keep a phone book in my car to look up numbers when shopping.

This afternoon.

Some of the local business' offer discounts if you say you saw their ad in the phone book so If I'm at home I always check to see if they have anything offered.

If I'm away from home I will just use Google on my phone.

Friday.. Had to look up a number and didn't want to boot up my computer just for that.. (I never leave my lap top in "hibernate" mode - or just leave it on all day if I'm not using it..) :goodvibes

Personally, years.

Professionally, a few times per week.

I assess older people that want to move into an independent living community, and part of the assessment is looking up something in the phone book. Still a good skill to have!

This morning. I realized after I woke up that I had left my purse at the restaurant we were at last night! :scared1: I got online to look up the number, but the internet was not loading and said the computer was off-line. I grabbed the nearest phone book and looked up the number. You may need it if you are ever in a pinch and don't have electricity to use the internet is out.

PS -- I got my purse back at 7:00am with everything still in it (including $100 in cash)!

I use my phone book every day... to set my drink on so my desk doesn't get wet :rotfl2:

Fairly frequently. Maybe once a week?

I have the same problem with numbers on the 'net being old or outdated. I also have a smaller phone book in my car for last minute orders. Maybe I'm out on the road and want to bring home a pizza or Applebee's To Go. Easier to call from the parking lot of the store I'm at and have it ready when I'm driving by on the way home.

They wouldn't publish them if people didn't read them. :thumbsup2 I don't see phone books going away as long as there are baby boomers and people who remember how to look things up in the book!

I rarely open the phonebook. Most everything I can find on the internet.

I used the phonebook a couple of months ago but that's just because I didn't want to turn my computer on just to find the number of our local pizza place.
