we are thinking of investing in a small, cheap, window AC unit to bring with us in May, incase we need it in our tent. My only question is, where do you guys put it? Would we be okay to just sit it on a small table inside the tent? Trying to figure out how that would actually work in there. Thanks!

You have to vent the exhaust to the outside of the tent somehow or it will heat and cool your tent at the same time.

There are portable units that have wheels and a tube for venting but they are more expensive than a window unit.

You can usually find the portable units on craigs list pretty cheap this time of year. You shoyld be able to vent it through the front of your tent if you pull one zipper down and the other up to hold it in place.

If you put a standard window unit in an enclosed tent without venting the back, the temp will rise in the tent.

All the parts that are out side must be outside for the AC to work at all.

Besides a portable unit, you can use something like this.

It has to exhaust outside, not only for the heat issue, but the whole idea is to take moisture out of the air and it drips (or pours sometimes ) so your tent and everything inside would be in a puddle ;) But agree, for sleeping, you will be lots more comfortable with AC. It can get mighty hot in May - I'm from So. LA.
