Universal 1st timer here, going in June! We are a Disney family but venturing out of our "bubble" :) I'm more of mild/medium rollercoaster person - Based on my experience with Disney rides what would you recommend I do/avoid??

Rides I LOVE
Big Thunder
Tiana's
Seven Dwarfs
Slinky
Everest (love everything but the backwards part, I have to close my eyes for that)
Flight of Passage
Test Track
Soarin
Radiators Springs
Also, we love Dollywood and I do just fine on Big Bear Mountain/ Fire Chaser / Dragonfly. Those are my speed :)

Rides I'm 50/50
Space (i've ridden it many times but now I think I'm too old for the jerky)
RnR (rode many years ago and was fine but I think I'm more chicken now)
Remy (strangely had motion sickness on this one but I'm totally fine on Soarin and Flight of Passage)

Rides I've HATED
Tower of Terror (rode both WDW and DL - haaaaate the free fall drop)

Rides I haven't done yet
Tron (hoping to this trip but I'm nervous)
Rise (strangely worried about the quick drop at the end, but ill prob do it this trip)
Guardians of the Galaxy (I want to but I'm just too worried about all the spinning. Even my husband/son who are rollercoaster fans were like "that was a lot of spinning")
Incredicoaster (skipped too nervous)
Matterhorn (skipped bc too jerky)
Millenium Falcon / Star Tours / Mission Space (I skip all of these)

Any input on the following??
Hagrids (this is my #1 - I want to try but worried about backwards part)
Flight of Hippograff (I'm for sure doing this one, it seems right up my speed)
Escape from Gringotts (worried about screens/motion sickness but otherwise maybe?)
Monsters (ditto)
Ministry of Magic (ditto)
Spider-Man (ditto)
Mummy (worried this is just a way more intense Space)

Definitely skipping
Forbidden Journey
Hulk
Velicoaster
Stardust Racers

Thank you!!!

Gringotts doesn't seem to cause motion sickness. Same with Monsters Unchained (that one utilizes screens as only minor background, so it doesn't have the movement synced or screen/prop transitions like Forbidden Journey).

Ministry should be fine.

Try Hagrids in the sidecar your first ride, you feel more secure. Note there is also a sudden straight down drop, not very far but if Rise concerns you then this definitely should concern you...

Mummy isn't too bad but there is an abrupt stop and one turn where you get tossed to the right fairly hard. It's a really fun, immersive ride, and a shame to skip. You might have a family member try it via single rider line first and then they can tell you when to brace.

I would add MiB to your "be worried" list because it does spin fairly intensely depending on your opponents. If spinning is your nemesis, this is the worst Universal ride (except the teacups of course).

Spider-Man spins once or twice but it not too bad... however that combined with screens the whole ride might give you trouble? You might consider trying Transformers first (same ride mechanism but without the spinning part) to see if that triggers your motion sickness, and if so skip Spider-Man.

If it isn't already there, you should probably add Simpsons to your "no due to motion sickness" list. That and FJ are the worst for screen-based (non-spinning) motion sickness.

You might also consider the trans-derm scop anti-nausea patch which would likely eliminate the motion sickness issue for you.

Oh and you didn't mention them, but Hiccups wing gliders should be fine and you should also be fine with Curse of the Werewolf, it doesn't really spin that much however do NOT get in a car with one side blocked off. If only loaded one-side, the car will spin aggressively.

Really everything at Epic should be fine except Stardust. I read a lot of complaints about Donkey Kong Mine Cart being rough/bumpy but did not find that to be the case.

Hi! I can definitely chime in on the Hagrids ride. First I need to say that I hated the backward part of Kilamanjaro ride. I would get nauseated every time, but loved the ride so I put up with it. I really hated how that backwards part made me feel. However, I have ridden Hagrids many times and have had no problems with the backward part. It is very fast and overwith quickly. I hope you give it a try because it is a fun ride and one of my favorites.
Escape from Gringott's is a fabulous ride. There's some jerky motion but it is well worth it. The amount of detail that goes into this attraction is unbelievable.
The Mummy is a coaster and somewhat jerky, but I can ride it fine.
I admit I am a chicken and there are some rides that bother me, but the above mentioned are fantastic.
Oh, Forbidden Journey was Not for me. It's very jerky and the ride arm makes quick turns and ups and downs, and also leans backward to where I thought I was going to fall out. I was nauseated and dizzy for an hour after riding that one.
I think you will have a wonderful time at Universal. It's our favorite park now. Don't miss The Bourne Experience at the Studios side. It is amazing. I saw it 3 times in one visit and still couldn't figure out how they did it. Also the Horror Make UP Show is a lot of fun and informative.
Hope all this helps you:) from one "chicken" to another:)
